Icebreaker MerinoLOFT

Icebreaker MerinoLOFT
MerinoLOFT is lightweight insulation created from premium, ethically-sourced wool fibers. Ten percent of the loft comes from recycled merino offcuts salvaged from the factory floor, while the jackets’ water repellent shell is made from recycled polyester. MerinoLOFT garments are Icebreaker’s warmest-ever jackets, and are ideal for lightweight layering. Icebreaker is using the latest technology to build the next generation of high performance merino.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Money for trekking and putzing around I love everything I've ever had from Icebreaker and the idea of a super thin puffy with merino fill was intriguing. Wanted something good for those high route nights and mornings and got exactly what I wanted. It's so light and comfy with just a tee. I wear it around in boring part of my life too when it's in 30's and 40's with just a tee and it's perfect. Throw one more mid-layer under it and you could stay out in this for hours. The only thing is the zipper is a bit annoying to get started, but so am I so what are you gonna do? Absolutely great product I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My New "Go To" Winter Jacket I haven’t updated my winter clothing since the 80’s and 90’s. I’ve been wanting to buy a down jacket for the last four years but kept putting that purchase off. I recently pulled the trigger this year on updating all of my winter clothing. I stumbled across the Icebreaker Hyperia Jacket quite by accident in the process of looking at other jackets. All my new base and mid layers are Icebreaker products and I have a new found appreciation for merino wool products and Icebreakers build quality and performance. After purchasing a Canada Goose Freestyle Down Vest I started reconsidering the need for a down jacket versus something lighter weight and more packable for traveling. In my line of work I travel light with two carry on's and rarely have room with my gear for more than a single change of clothes and a jacket. So the ergonomics of traveling light--that less is more--really factored into my decision making process. I was tipped off to the Hyperia Lite and I’ve got to confess, this is my new “go to” piece for winter wear. Like other Icebreaker products it is extremely well made and has an incredible warmth to weight ratio. It is very warm without being bulky. There is enough MerinoLoft insulation for it to provide ample warmth without overheating. It has sufficient breathability to where you can move between indoors and outdoors without overheating and the shell is water resistant. It is a great jacket for moderate cold on its own, but serves as a superb layering piece for colder temperatures. With weather in the teens and my Freestyle Down Vest I’m plenty warm on my torso and comfortable on my arms. If there is any frigid wind, the Hyperia Lite and a hardshell wind jacket should keep you toasty. In wet or rainy environments you’ll definitely need a rain shell over it. The zippered pockets are a huge plus for traveling and the jacket is packable when luggage space is at a premium. The cut and fit allows room to comfortably layer up underneath ( I often wear an Icebreaker base layer with the Hyperia Lite on most days). I’ve had far more compliments and inquiries from others about the Hyperia Lite Jacket than any other piece of gear I own. My only con--and this was initially a borderline deal breaker for me--was the European zipper being on the opposite side of traditional American men’s wear. However, having purchased several new high tech jackets with the European zippers, I’ve quickly adjusted to them without even giving it a second thought. I’m so glad I didn’t overlook this piece as an option. One of the single best purchases I’ve ever made on technical clothing. Highly recommended.
