Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best suspension available in a pack this size After having used traditional "top loading with flap" packs for decades I wasn't sure what to make of the "hybrid-zip" top loading flap Gregory uses here. I have a bias against zippers so it's taken a shift in thinking, but as I have used this pack over the past 2 months I've come to appreciate the thought behind it. This pack is full of features done right. Generous pocket sizes, a front shove pocket, the rain cover pocket, water bladder pocket and hose clip...really a lot of very practical buit-ins here. The main selling point for me was the suspension. This pack has the most stout hip belt and comfortable lumbar pad of any pack this size. Due to age and injury I need to transfer as much weight as possible to my hips and this pack does it far better than the competition. It's like they took a full featured multi day pack and shrunk it down to day pack size. What really impresses me is the way Gregory integrated the ventilation on the back panel while maintaining a comfy yet stout suspension. I'm glad Gregory put a stow option for trekking poles when they're not in use but the design just seems to miss the mark. It's a bit cumbersome to attach/detach the poles on the fly, and sometimes I worry how securely they're attached back there. Osprey does that particular feature better with their 'stow on the go' setup, but on the whole I find this pack far superior than the competing Osprey Kestrel or Exos.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A great pack with a caviat That's a great pack. I am planning to use it for some more challenging day hikes like Bishop Pass, Whitney, Where extra weight is not desirable. The problem I am having is that it doesn't feel right. The pack doesn't make good contact with your back and feels disconnected and wobbly. I think I will go for a more traditional design like the Stout 30.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Travel This is a great pack for weekend trips for 2-3 days. I have used it a lot on weekend trips with friends because it is so easy to just grab, stuff, and go. There is ample space for all the essentials with room to spare. There is enough organization inside for toiletries and other small items without feeling like a pack for school or business trips. I have also used this pack for week long international travel in Europe. It had enough space for all our clothes and things while still being light weight enough to tote around. The suspension system was great for extended wear. We like to travel light so this pack was perfect. We would have liked to have a bit more space if we are going for longer trips, but I've been very satisfied with this pack. One con, however, is if you're traveling with electronics this may not be the pack for you. There is not enough organization for things like laptops or lots of cables.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A nice upgrade from the old z30 I bought a Gregory z30 over 10 years ago and used that pack to its dying days. The Zulu 30 is the new version of the z30. It has all the same great features that I loved in the z30, especially the breathable frame, but it's a little sleeker and I like the included rain cover. So far I'm happy and would recommend the Zulu 30 to anyone in the market for a durable, multi-use day pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! We bought this for day hikes, however we realize I could possibly use this during the summer for an over nite hike too. We also ordered the Gregory 3L hydration bladder which fits perfectly. The pack is well designed, comfortable on my 6'1", 184# frame. It is well built and we love the additional exterior strapping attachment options for our hiking poles, tripod, & jackets. There are 3 exterior non zippered pockets, one on each side of the pack and one clipped storage sleeve on the back, which also has a zippered compartment for the rain cover which could also be used for additional gear. The top zippered pocket is plenty big for a phone, sunglass case and lunch. The main compartment has plenty of space as well as another zippered mesh compartment area for plenty of stowables.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight + comfortable + accessible = delicious It is so hard to find a lightweight pack with a breathable suspension and zippered opening. I can fit more in this 30L pack than a 36L pack with the goofy flap top pocket. The zipper opens far enough to easily get to stuff in the top half of the pack and still be able to stuff everything in the bottom. It's also pretty narrow, which I dig as it doesn't get in the way when squeezing through obstacles. The color is pretty too. Dope.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great comfortable backpack! I bought this as a daypack for my family to hold misc items/drinks/snacks for kids. Super comfortable. Back was not sweaty after wearing it. The rain cover worked great as it rained the first day using it. Kept everything dry. Pockets were very accessible. Would definitely buy again, possibly a bit bigger next time.

Does that large have a larger capacity(30 liters) than the medium?

Right on the torso length borderline between Medium and Large for Gregory ZULU 30; Do you recommend sizing UP to a LARGE or DOWN to a MEDIUM? THANKS!

Asked by: jnscon
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us. Gregory recommends erring on the small side. So, if you're torso is exactly 20 inches, you are a medium. If you're just over 20 inches, go with a large!

- + Size Guide

Gregory Men's Packs

Gregory backpacking packs are available in a size range. Please check the PRODUCT FEATURES and / or SPECIFICATIONS for the torso range measurements of each size of a pack. The steps below are a guide for measuring your torso size.

The hipbelts on Gregory backpacking packs are adjustable to fit a range of sizes. A simple rule of thumb is that the ideal distance between the ends of the hipbelt pads after tightening should be 3 to 5 inches. However, the most important criteria are that the hipbelt wraps clear over the side of your body and that it rests 1 inch above your iliac crest. This allows proper load transfer to your skeletal structure, which maximizes comfort and minimizes energy expenditure.

1. Put your chin to your chest and feel for the big bone protruding on your neck at the top of your spine. That's the C7 vertebra.

2. Feel your hip bone, the top part of this is your iliac crest. Find the spot on your back that is level with the top of this crest.

3. Have someone measure the distance between these two points, following the contours of your spine.
