The Gregory Men's Baltoro 85L Pack is a beast of a hiking pack for long trips, such as the PCT, AT, and whatever else you may want to tackle. The largest of the Baltoro series is almost in a category all of its own, thanks to the mega space it provides. Built with Response A3 suspension, LifeSpan EVA foam harness and hipbelt, LumbarTune and silicone lumbar grip zone, it transfers weight to your lumbar area comfortably, even when your packed to the gills. Special extras included with the pack are the SideKick, a removable daypack that doubles as a hanging reservoir sleeve, and the integrated rain cover stowed into it's very own mesh pocket (behind the vertical zip). Load your gear from the top, and access it at any time via the front U-zip, or grab your sleeping bag from the lower half external zipper. Pockets galore at the sides, top lid, and hipbelt help organize and keep track of smaller items as you battle the miles and miles of trail.

Products on Sale are Discontinued Styles or Colors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amped to take this pack to Philmont. Very pleased. Perfect blend of size and comfort. Probably the nicest pack I've ever owned, can't wait to get this out on the trail for a ten day trek! I even bought a second one for my son as he was equally impressed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I hope everybody likes me as much as I like this. Moosejaw enticed me to write this review by telling me “everybody will really, really like you”. How cool is that? There were one or two people out there who didn’t like me so this review should get them on my good side. But enough about me. This is a pretty awesome pack. I like to hike in as much comfort as I can manage without the use of pack animals. My previous 65L pack just wasn’t big enough. This thing is a monster. When I got it and opened up the top I had to get a flashlight just to see the bottom. If you shout into it you get an echo. I have separate 9L Granite Gear Zips for my hammock, tarp, and all the stakes, lines etc. and a bag for all my cooking gear, I carry a Anker solar panel to recharge my tech, clothes, food, camp chair, hiking poles (which can be attached on the outside) down quilts, rain gear, and, and, and, but you get the idea. This pack holds all of it, easily. It came down to the Gregory or the Osprey and the deciding factor, given the comparable price point was the fact that the Baltoro included a rain cover and hydration sleeve (which I don’t use because I don’t like carrying water inside my pack) at no extra charge. The “U” shaped zipper on the front that allows access to the entire contents is perhaps the coolest feature. And the “brain” has multiple individual zippered compartments to keep the little stuff separated. The waterproof hip belt pocket is great for keeping your GPS or phone handy and dry, the angled water bottle pocket is perfect for keeping a Nalgene handy, the endlessly adjustable suspension is endlessly adjustable....... I could go on but you get the point, right. If you want to drag everything but the kitchen sink out on the trail with you, and you don’t have access to a group of sherpas or porters you need this pack. So, how do you like me now?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best backpack I’ve ever worn I was skeptical of the weight as Gregory packs are known to be slightly heavier but the pack is lighter than expected and filled with features. The suspension system is amazing and is by far the most comfortable pack i’ve ever worn. I highly recommend this pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's an amazing backpack. Period. I backpack a dozen or so times a year. I almost always bring people with me that are new to backpacking. As such, I usually volunteer to take some heavier comfort items to get people to fall in love with backpacking a littler easier. Being the unofficial sherpa for the group, I need a bigger pack than most. This backpack fits the bill perfectly. I've never run out of room with it and it is exceptionally comfortable to wear, even under significant weight (70+ pounds). The organization features are great and it's very lightweight for how big it is. The only issue I've had with it is a fabric tear around the sheath that covers the frame at the bottom of the bag. Gregory warrantied it and I haven't had an issue since.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gregory has fit dialed in. If you pack heavy loads, this is the pack for you. I had a Gregory Rainier for many years and although it was a heavy pack (9lbs), I loved the fit. Looking to lighten up, I sold it and got a much lighter, but similarly large pack from another maker. After 3 trips with moderate to heavy (52-72lbs) loads, I sold it and went back to Gregory (Baltoro 85). The firm padding, beautifully contoured waist belt and shoulder pads, the well-contoured back panel and stays, great water bottle holder, practical and useful pockets, panel access, combined make this a near perfect pack. I love it and would buy it again in a second.

- + Size Guide

Gregory Men's Packs

Gregory backpacking packs are available in a size range. Please check the PRODUCT FEATURES and / or SPECIFICATIONS for the torso range measurements of each size of a pack. The steps below are a guide for measuring your torso size.

The hipbelts on Gregory backpacking packs are adjustable to fit a range of sizes. A simple rule of thumb is that the ideal distance between the ends of the hipbelt pads after tightening should be 3 to 5 inches. However, the most important criteria are that the hipbelt wraps clear over the side of your body and that it rests 1 inch above your iliac crest. This allows proper load transfer to your skeletal structure, which maximizes comfort and minimizes energy expenditure.

1. Put your chin to your chest and feel for the big bone protruding on your neck at the top of your spine. That's the C7 vertebra.

2. Feel your hip bone, the top part of this is your iliac crest. Find the spot on your back that is level with the top of this crest.

3. Have someone measure the distance between these two points, following the contours of your spine.
