Rated 4 out of 5 by from Strong durable and warm I bought my first Parka a year ago and i can't tell you how satisfied i am with it, its strong, its sturdy, has lots of big pockets for storage, its rugged and made for the worst kind of harsh winters and it will keep you warm, and needless to say we have had a very cold winter here in the Northeast this year; I'm so satisfied that now i own two of these and the price was right, 90% fill, the only real negatives is i wish i had known about these 15 years ago and the other is i wish the designer had put the zipper on the left side instead of the right and not duplicate that other company from Canada because the zippers can be bit tedious at times however, Fjallraven is better made than theres, so I'm very satisfied with my Arktis Parka, TWO THUMBS UP TO YOU Fjallraven!!! Thank you...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Serious winter parka This is a substantial winter parka, fit for the coldest winter days. The fabric quality is second to none, and the insulation thickness is some of the heaviest I have seen so far in a winter jacket. The fit is true to size. You will not be disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality but HUGE I received the parka and was very please with every aspect but fit. I am 6'1 & 170. I bought a medium and this parka swallowed me. I returned it but a smaller size was not available. I chose the Polar Guide instead and am very pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built like a Tank... Love my coat. Love Moosejaw - great prices. I am about 6ft tall and weight 200ibs. I actually returned my large version of the coat because it was just too large... Arm and body just ran a bit too long. I now have the medium and it still feels like I bought a large :) As a photographer just finished a 2 hours photoshoot stand in 10 degrees F temps for over 2 hours and the coat was perfect. The feet where another issue. But the pockets are big, the zippers are well thought out - tone of hidden pockets, this coat is tough and well priced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome jacket Excellent jacket. Bought it to use for work in the arctic. Has been very warm and large enough to layer underneath for days when it is -30 or colder. I did change out the faux fur for real. The removable rug made it easy to do. Does not get stiff in the cold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kyl Parka VS Arktis Parka As all the reviewers state this is an awesome winter jacket, but keep in mind with the insulation and down it is REALLY warm. I will let you know as a correction, neither the Kyl or the Arktis are waterproof. However the "greenland" bees wax can be added to increase its resistance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from tough jacket I am 5'8" 170lbs, shirt size 16-33". I ordered a medium. This fit as expected, which is quite large. However, the sleeves are perfect length. If it were any shorter you could not sit on the back of the jacket as intended, but is does make it long. It is not a fashion statement (although I actually like its looks, it's the size that makes it unfashionable). Flattering is not a word I would use to describe it. I'm sure if I were going to wear only a T-shirt under it, as some seem to here, a small size would have been fine, but that's not how it is intended to be be worn by those who really need it. You would be wearing at least a base layer and a sweater or warm shirt, since that's likely what you would wear indoors during the winter. This is simply a very large, heavy, jacket. It isn't really a good fit for the urban shopping, in and out of stores, type of use. For that you might do better with a Kyl or Yupik or Barents, all of which are trimmer, more streamlined. FWIW, the small size Kyl fit me perfectly wearing a T-shirt and flannel shirt. Although the Kyl has a lower down fill and looks lighter, it is slightly heavier, maybe because of its waterproof barrier, which the Arktis lacks. I have a half dozen down parkas of varying weights, up to expedition size, for our typical Colorado cold conditions: dry, windy, and variable, where compressibility is a high priority. Compressibility is not a strong point of this parka. What this parka is good for are the conditions Swedes regularly confront: super cold, so no need for waterproofing (breathability is more important), and heavily wooded countryside that would shred any of my mountaineering parkas in a few feet. They also make frequent use of outdoor fires, the sparks from which destroy those mountaineering parkas in short order. Hence the taped patches on some of mine. Not G-1000. I like that it's bulletproof, with massive strong zippers and huge zipper pulls, great adjustable hood, lots of pockets for different warmth gloves and hats, so no pack needed, and for a thermos. Perfect for bird watchers, ice fishers, and those who work in cold climates and have to stand around. If you have to work hard you'll overheat in a heartbeat. That's why Fjallraven's Expedition jacket has a built in shoulder harness system: so it won't blow away when you take it off to do hard work, like building an igloo! But it costs $1800! I'm thinking of making a similar setup. If you can find it here on sale, which is frequent, it's an absolute steal compared to its well known competition. Just be sure your use fits that for which it is intended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No fear jacket The older I get, the colder I get. With this jacket I plan on staying warm until I'm 100. Sized right, but no extra wiggle room. Typical Fjallraven quality.

Hi, we've planned a trip next February to Norway, Greenland, Faroe Islands and Greenland. We'll be dogsledding, camping, hiking etc. I was looking closely at the Expedition No 1, but am now wondering if the Arktis would do the job, any thoughts?

Asked by: Richie
Hey there! Both are great options for your trip. The Expedition No.1 was designed for ACTIVE individuals in arctic conditions. The buttons & zippers are over sized so you can easily grab them with thick gloves. The pockets are extremely spacious for items such as goggles & GPS equipment. Also, it has 95% down fill insulation. Now the Arktis Parka was intended for LOW-intensity activities in extremely cold weather. The pockets can hold items such as a thermos & compass. Also, it has 80% goose down. Both have hoods with detachable synthetic fur. The Expedition does have extra fur to block out those bitter winds. I would say if you are going to be in sub-zero temperatures and active the majority of the time, then the Expedition is the way to go. If you think there will be cooler days and some relaxation, then the Arktis Parka would be my choice. I hope this helps a little!

What is the down weight for this coat?  800?  I'm looking for a coat that can be worn in -40 weather. Thank you

Asked by: PCarter
Thanks for the question! The Men's Arktis Parka weighs 2.1 lbs. Unfortunately, Fjallraven does not temperature rate their garments. With that being said, this Parka was designed for extremely cold weather. Hope this helps a little!
