Rated 5 out of 5 by from well made I just bought this recently and haven't used it camping yet. But I pumped it up and it seems very well constructed. I will still use a thin topper to soften it a little for sleeping. A friend has already purchased one based on my recommendation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most Excellent Mat I bought this for my girlfriend and I to use car camping, and it has exceeded my expectations! On the ground in a tent it is a dream, and in the back of an outback it works perfect! Inflation and deflation were not bad especially if you let it slowly inflate at home when you first get it as is recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Camping Option This is a great product. It is a much better option than an air mattress. It provides a much more comfortable experience especially when sleeping next to someone. Their movement does not disturb you in the middle of the night and the pad stays firm! Very happy with this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect sleep pad for car camping couples I purchased this sleeping pad for my wife and I to share while car camping. We used it in the pad sleeve under a Big Agnes Dream Island sleeping bag. Setup was easy: open both valves and let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then top off with the included pump. The pump is a bit fiddly, but it doesn't take long to fill the pad. Comfort and warmth were exceptional. My wife and I are small people, so the pad was very roomy and I never felt cramped. I felt no pressure points, my hips and shoulders were supported and I got a couple of very restful nights of sleep on it. Packing it away is cumbersome, but the roll top-stuff sack takes a lot of the frustration away and the packed size, while large, is smaller than expected. Our sleeping bag is easily 50% larger when packed. I had my eye on the Exped Mega Mat 10, but the Sim Comfort Duo 7.5 has exceeded my expectations and I don't see a need to go bigger/thicker. We're very happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from best tent-camping in years my husband and i have been tent camping for about a decade, and gradually added some backcountry backpacking trips into the mix. (but no, we do not take the comfort duo into the backcountry! we use it for car/tent camping) here's what we have tried over the years that has now culminated in the comfort duo: 1. tried classic air mattresses. comfy, but after two catastrophic deflation/failure events, we had had enough. 2. tried a double cot. the cot seemed ok at first, but would wobble on uneven ground. we never loved it, but at least we knew it wouldn't fail and leave us on the rocky ground. 3. after we learned to backback, we started using our minimalist backcountry sleep mats for car-camping/tent-camping, too. 4. FINALLY, after deciding that our backpacker mats worked best, but hating how they would slide apart from each other when we tried to use our two-person sleeping bag in our big tent, we came across this duo pad. and of course, the duo 7.5 is MUCH cushier than our backpacker pads. WE LOVE THIS PAD. It packs up into a totally reasonable size for car camping. (Takes up less room than our old cot did, and not much more than our old air mattresses.) Hardly weighs a thing. If you're undecided, I recommend watching the manufacturer videos for any Exped "Sim" (self-inflating mat). The videos convinced me of the careful design and research they put into their mats. The biggest thing is to sleep comfortably, and you will! We had to learn to actually let some air OUT, because the foam inside is nearly sufficient on its own, without trying to add much air other than what it sucks in by itself while unfurling. But the designers thought through the whole experience. The added niceties: - Separate one-way valves for inflate and deflate. - Stretchy fabric on the top so you sink into the foam instead of rolling around on a balloon-like surface. - Even the carrying bag is designed so you don't have to wrestle and struggle to re-pack the thing! If you think you want EVEN MORE cushion, then I learned after my purchase that you could instead just buy two Exped sim 10 cm *single-width* pads and they each have velcro along the side for velcro-ing them together. hope that helps! happy camping!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sleeping like a baby We purchased this mattress in August in advance of a trip to Glacier National Park in September. It has delivered in every possible category. Ease of inflating/deflating made for easy set up and tear down. The high r-value meant we never felt the cold from below in temperatures to date into the low 20’s. The comfort regardless of sleeping on your side or back was excellent and could be fine tuned by adjusting the air pressure. The material created enough surface tension that you didn’t slide around. We both loved this mattress and would definitely recommend it. This is not a backpacking mattress as it is a bit bulky and heavy but for base camp or car camping you will sleep like a baby!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing night's sleep I purchased this so that when I go car camping, or set up a basecamp from which I do longer hikes, I can comfortably sleep next to my girlfriend without falling between two sleeping mats. This is a fantastic camping mat. Self-inflates quickly and, once it does, can be further inflated with the included air pump to get it really nice and supportive. I have only used it in cool (~50 degree) weather, but it never felt like I was losing heat to the ground. It's also the PERFECT size to fit in my two person tent (REI Passage 2). The mat has a soft, kind of felt-like, top and a smooth bottom that feels like ripstop nylon. Both sides feel really tough. I would still keep a cat and/or sharp objects away from it, but it certainly won't get pierced by a single pine needle (which is more than I can say for every single air mattress I've tried to take car camping). Speaking of air mattresses. This thing puts them to shame in terms of comfort. There's no rubber-squeaking noise when you move around AND, because of the internal foam, very little of one person's movement is felt by the other. Finally the weight. This is NOT a piece of ultralight gear. While it's way lighter than an air mattress, it still likely weights as much as your tent. It also doesn't pack down as small as an inflatable mat that lacks foam. A quick anecdote: This mat was actually used as a bed while waiting for a real mattress to be delivered and it was totally fine. Would work well as a spare "guest bed" for people crashing at your place or whatever.

How thick is this pad? It's not included in the specs. Can you also blow it up more without the pump?

Asked by: Didi
Great question! The Sim Comfort Duo 7.5 Sleeping Pad is three inches thick. It is a self-inflating pad, but can also be used with an Exped pump (sold separately) to speed up inflation.
