Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best, but like any great kit you need to learn I've owned this pad for 10 years now... I originally bought it for a high alpine trip where we built a snow cave and slept at 12,500' in a Colorado January (our sensors said -16°F, or -27°C). My skiing partner was up all night in his gear but I was completely warm. He got the last laugh though, because he brought his ski boots into his sleeping bag and I stubbornly thought they'd be fine in the cave. Wrong... the cave temps were still well below freezing and my feet were in ice boots the next day. Anyway, I've used this pad every time since then. I do baby it a bit... mainly because it's expensive. But once you get used to it you can't leave it at home except for summer trips (when I am on water). It takes a few times to get used to pumping with the bag, but it's not rocket science and is pretty genius. There's nothing on Earth like it. I would pay 2x the amount if I lost or damaged mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfy, warm, love it This is so comfy I wouldn't use anything else. I'm a cold sleeper generally but not after this pad it takes care of all my warmth issues and allows me to pack warmer lighter sleeping bags while backpacking. The pumping can sometimes take a while but being a cold sleeper this makes all of it worth it even the little extra weight it brings along with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible engineering that's worth its weight in down If you're an ultralight hiker/camper who weighs every item down to the gram then this isn't for you. If you're someone who camps outdoors in the winter then you probably know that high quality, well-designed items in your pack make the difference between an amazing adventure and a miserable one. I pair this pad with a Western Mountaineering Kodiak bag and I'm good for just about any conditions that I may encounter during the winter here. Just buy it and stop worrying about the price -- it's worth the cost and weight, without question.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than my couch This mat was amazing!!! I used it while backpacking in Colorado this past winter and it made our slightly too small tent feel like a palace. I am six feet tall and this was the perfect size for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Comfy The first one I had was returned because it leaked the first time out. Moosejaw exchanged it with no problems. The second one has held up much betterand is very comfortable. I usually always feel the ground as I am 250lbs but this mat I don't think I was even close to the ground. Worth the investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is like having an electric blanket with a 60miles extension cord This thing is SUPER warm. It's a little on the heavy side for ultralight stuff, but I think it's worth it. When you consider the that the volume it takes up is less than a Big Anges Dual Core and only weighs 2 ounces more, the choice seems easy. Not to mention the comfort, this thing is more comfortable than my bed at home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from worth every cent This pad is outstanding for cold conditions. When I first tried it I realised how much heat that otherwise is lost through conduction. It doesnt matter how warm your sleeping bag is, if you have a bad sleeping pad you will freeze anyway. This thing though, will keep you warm, For warm days I have almost wanted to sleep on the ground instead becuase of the intense heat it seems to produce. For cold conditions this is exactly what you want though.

Would this pad be too warm if it is being used in 50 degree nights?

Asked by: James
Hey James, Thanks for your question. I think it depends on how warm your sleeping bag is, and how hot/cool your body runs while you sleep. If you are all bundled up in a bag rated for temps around 0-15 degrees F, then your whole set up will be too warm. If you are sleeping in a less insulated bag or even a blanket with this pad, you may do fine depending on how warm you run while you sleep. Hope this helps!
