Then as the weather starts to warm up, I can take the layers of the coat apart and wear the layer that will be the best for that day.

Full frontal zipper is flanked by buttons. There are two zipper pockets and additional two pockets with flaps, all are on lower front of coat. I like walking and use my coat for outdoor activities.

In 2020 I purchased a size XS but by 2023 I needed a larger size, so I replaced my old coat with a size M. For reference, I'm 5.3, 150lbs (DD cup) and I can wear my thickest sweater under both coat layers. I love that you can wear these coats as separates. The outer shell is my go to rain coat for fall/spring hikes.

I’m a huge fan of the Omni Heat lining; it keeps me so warm on cold Maryland days (I have it on long underwear, jackets and vests!) only problem was I ordered too big and had to return! Will not hesitate to buy again!

Very convenient to have a removable inner layer which I loaned to someone who forgot their coat. Kept my dry during the snow and rain. Only thing since I run wide at the hips, if the coat would be a little wider at the hips or would stretch a bit.

what is a drop tail

Thanks for the question! "Drop Tail" simply means that the back of the Jacket is longer than in the front. The purpose is to give more rear-end coverage. I hope this information helps!

Hi, I am looking for a warm, wind/water proof parka that i can use everyday and I'm stuck between Columbia Carson and Fjallraven Nuuk. Do you have any advice? The coldest it gets here is about 5-7 degrees F. Thanks!

Heading to Alaska for a quick trip but will be in negative degree weather for most of it. I plan on layering but need a great warm option that isn’t crazy expensive since I’m not wearing all the time and this may be a one off. Would this be a good option?

Thanks for the question! YES, the Carson Pass IC Jacket is a perfect choice for your Alaskan trip! It comes with an insulated base layer and waterproof outer shell - that can be worn separately or together. When combined, you will be quite warm. With that said, the level of warmth is different for each person and Columbia does not temperature rate their outerwear. I always like to suggest a 3-in-1 jacket for travel since it gives you more options as opposed to having to pack several pieces. Overall, I think you nailed it with the Carson Pass IC Jacket. Have the best trip, ever!

Would this jacket work well to wear skiing or snowboarding?

Thanks for the question! The Carson Pass is a great regular use winter jacket, it's durable, insulated with a waterproof shell, but it doesn't have features like a ski pass holder, or a goggle pouch or powder skirt. We still do have quite a few customers who like to use this one for snow sports. I would also consider a similar looking ski jacket, such as the Women's Mount Bindo Insulated Jacket.
