The Black Diamond Stone Duffel 42 Pack is a pack for carrying your gear to the climb. Sometimes the crag is near, sometimes far, but either way it's better to use a bag to carry it all instead of your hands. With this duffel style, it opens wide from the center zipper so you can pile in the rope, protection, carabiners, quickdraws, harness and more. Once you arrive the included rope tarp provides a clean space to place your rope, instead of the ground.

FEATURES of the Black Diamond Stone Duffel 42 Pack

  • Lightweight framesheet with foam backpanel for comfort
  • Tuck-away padded shoulder straps and webbing hipbelt
  • Full-length zipper access
  • Two internal zippered organizer pockets
  • Includes a removable 1.2 x 1.5 m rope tarp

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Almost the Perfect Crag Pack! I got this just over a week ago, and I'm already in love with it! It allows for easy packing between crags during the day, and it packs more neatly than my previous top loading pack, which was 45L. The full zipper is awesome; It's easy to get a ton of stuff in here! I also think the built in rope tarp is incredible because it help to control the yard sale at the crag. I think there are two things that would improve this pack: outside pockets, as a lot of other reviews have mentioned, would be great for storing keys or wallet so that they are easily accessible when you get back to the car. It would also be awesome if the rope tarp could be synched up a little neater when putting it back into the pack just to help keep the rope compact. Best crag pack I've ever owned or used, great work BD!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent access to gear! I bought this a couple weeks ago, finally used it this weekend. It is just big enough to hold all of our gear for 2 people minus helmets/shoes. having duffel style access was so much better then having to dig though everything to find what you wanted or to put back. you can spread it open and see everything in your bag. The pack is extremely comfortable even when loaded to the max

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So glad I bought this! It was bigger than I thought it would be (that's what she said...)! Was carrying 2 different packs to the crag and now all my gear fits in the Stone Duffel with room to spare.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Crag Pack I bought this right before a trip to Red Rocks. This bag was the perfect size for all of my gear. I fit all of my lunch and small gear in the side pockets. Then in the main compartment, I fit a rope, 12 quickdraws, camp chair, harness, and water bottles. I put my shoes and chalk bag on the outside but I could have fit those inside as well. This bag is super comfortable to carry even when its fully loaded. DB nailed the backpack part of this bag even though its technically a duffel. This bag is comfortable and has a lot of space. Improvements: I wish there was a divider to keep my smaller items of gear from sliding down into the rope portion when I take the rope out. More gear loops on the outside would help too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I wanted. Was looking for a overall climbing bag, for sport, trad and bouldering and very happy with the duffel style as well as a backpack for those hike in areas. The organization within is great for just what I need when I'm out climbing. Plus feels nice and rugged and like it is going to hold up well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Like a small car with lots of room. The amount of storage this bag offers never ceases to amaze me. It rides well during multipitch ascents and can pack everything for long approaches. With over 6 months of use, The zippers and shell seem to be holding up well

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Pack This is a nice pack/rope bag. I prefer to carry my rope separately, so I removed the tarp. If there were side mesh pouches for water bottles, or other items I would have given 5 stars. The Patagonia crag daddy is a little more versatile that way, but is a bit pricier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just works! Currently using it for hauling stuff to/from climbing gym. Easily hauls change of clothes, 2 sets of shoes, 2 harnesses, misc. belay devices, quickdraws, etc. So far solid, tough and simple.

What's the size on this? Is it carry-on compatible (22" x 14" x 9")?

Asked by: DavoColo
Hey DavoColo, thanks for asking! This pack's dimensions are about 23" x 12.5" x 11.5 ". Since many airlines have their own guidelines for carry-on size, it could work for some but may not work for others. Just check your airline's carry-on guidelines on their website to make sure this would work for you. Hope this helps!
