Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Recommended I agree wither other one star comments listed above. Have had the tent for six years and bought a new tent three years back because I could not rely on the Skylight tent in rain or snowy conditions. Because of the poor ventilation and fabric, condensation occurs on the inside and especially on the poles. The Velcro pole fasteners wore holes in the mesh fabric just after a few backpacking trips. Decided to use it for what I knew would be a short dry weather trip last fall, because It is roomy for two. We had a strong wind one night and the internal pocket for the pole end ripped from the sidewall of the tent. This was my first BD tent and has left a bad taste in my mouth.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wonderful tent design ... but not remotely waterproof! I love the design of this tent. It's light and airy, and easily accommodates three people. The screen is particularly nice. The only downside is that it completely fails to keep rain on the outside of the tent, where it belongs. I've now had three of these tents, and every one of them has leaked. Using this on the West Coast Trail, we rigged a silicone tarp to cover the tent, which wasn't a bad solution, except that you can't always find trees in the right places to rig a tarp. On more alpine expeditions, this isn't really an option. To confirm the waterproofing issues, I set each of the tents up under a controlled water spray. Set to a light sprinkle, the volume of water collected from the inside of the tent after an overnight test ranged between 1/2 litre and 1 litre, depending on which of the Skylight tents was being tested. All of the tents were thoroughly seam-sealed first. Close examination showed that water simply migrates through the fabric. This would be a terrific tent for those occasions where you are quite certain that only the lightest of showers might be encountered. I personally switched to a B.D. Squall tent, and rarely use the Skylight anymore.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sorry BD, This Is Probably the Worst... This is just not a good tent, I'm so sorry to say... Breathability is bad, since the rain fly is the outermost layer and there isnt any cross ventilation. And if it's perfect weather, since the rainfly is the outermost layer, you cant fully take it off and just have a mesh net. Total bummer in the summer when I'm sweating in my tent and other buddies are footloose and breezy. The size is fine but not really great for backpacking. Ditto on the weight—I think it actually heavier than 5 lbs.... Plus, it does take up a fair amount of space in a pack. And sometimes I even spread it amongst a buddy's pack who is sharing it with me just to distribute weight/size. Depends on the rain, but it's relatively rainproof. But NOT for Oregon kind of rain. You will get soaked. Plus hello! You have to attach the poles by getting INSDIE the tent. Any BD tent—or any tent for that matter—that has this design needs to be thoroughly tested in store before buying because this company and others are not doing it right. If your'e trying to factor in high alpine winds and want an internal pole setup, go with another brand. (Sorry, BD.) But for those that arent taking it to arctic temps, just get an external pole construction with a separate lightweight rain fly so you're not shimmying on your belly into a tent abyss, rain or shine, to assemble your unbreathable, not necessarily waterproof gear. This tent should be discontinued, because BD makes so much more awesome non-tent gear!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Zipper Failed Wonderful tent if Black Diamond had put in a bombproof zipper. It failed with occasional use after 3 years. We tried to be gentle with it and keep it clean, but that didn't help. Without a strong zipper the tent is useless!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weight is good, but horrible in the rain. Even though I taped the seams as instructed, this tent was terrible in light and moderate rain. After an hour of rain, water would just come through the material. My sleeping bag got soaked every night. The only saving grace is it was pretty light for a large two man tent - I will probably never use this tent if there's any chance of rain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite tent ever, and have had many! The greatest part is the weight, for three person cant be beat. Can be put in very extreme wind conditions if tied down correctly. Waterproofness; not 100% but about 90, will leak tiny bits in very wet conditions but in reality you can easily bring in more water with a soaking jacket or pants. Has never been so bad as to soak a sleeping bag, just some damp mornings, which I think is just fine. I have left it set up for extended periods on a platform and in shade and used it every night to sleep on an island off the coast of Maine(can be very windy and rainy) from june to november, very durable!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent and roomy lightweight tent My dog son and I can comfortably sleep in the tent. Haven't had any issues with condensation, but haven't been anywhere humid either. Packs small and light. Great tent!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great in a dry climate So this tent is super light and very easy to setup and tear down with a little practice. It holds up in high winds pretty well. But as with any single wall tent, you're going to end up with condensation. I will say that it does dry pretty quickly once the sun hits it but it will get wet at night. In Colorado (dry) during the summer it worked great. In Minnesota (wet) I've had a similar experience to the other reviewer where I got soaked inside during an intense rain storm because the water worked it's way through the fabric then rained down on the inside. The bottom line is that I think it's a great tent if you're using it in the proper environment and understand it's limitations ahead of time. I would buy again and recommend it with the above caveats.
