DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

GORE-TEX Pro

GORE-TEX Pro
GORE-TEX Pro material offers maximized ruggedness which makes it ideal for extreme and extended use, like mountaineering, climbing or skiing. It's super durable, super waterproof, and super windproof.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superior quality garment Bought this jacket (black L) for use at work. I'm a biologist living in Hawaii who is outside in wet conditions almost every day and I have put my fair share of outdoor equipment to the test in terms of durability and performance among the elements. This jacket is definitely the most well-constructed I've used. It's very simple, meaning basic pockets and features, which might bore some folks but the Goretex Pro material is clearly better than everything else and very light for how tough it is. I recently wore the jacket while hiking Ben Nevis peak in Scotland and was amazed at the performance in high winds and rain. I now want to get matching pants. I bought the large which I like but could probably have fit perfectly into the medium. I do like the fact that I can wear my down coat beneath the large with comfort when necessary. I'm 5'11 and 175 lbs athletic build and typically bounce between medium and large in similar apparel from other brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It This is my jacket that I use while backpacking in the rain. It is definitely not the lightest rain jacket, but when you are going to Alaska, you can't use anything else but heavy duty Goretex. The rain bounces right off this jacket, it fits nicely, and I love the way there are two zippers on the pit zips. As far as Goretex jackets go, I'd say this is relatively lightweight for how bomb proof it seems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great minimalist Gore-tex Jacket I have used this jacket for the past two seasons as an alternative to my Mission Shell. The Sharp End has fewer pockets and a trimmer cut, so it is ideal for times when the weather is less severe and more aerobic activity is in the plans. It is also lighter than the Mission Shell and seems to be a bit shorter in the cut, making it a good combination with harness when doing glacier travel, especially in springish conditions. This jacket fits well and does not restrict movement; the venting works efficiently, but the weatherguard zippers require a few dozen pulls before being operable in the field with one hand. The lack of a powder skirt means that the jacket can also breathe well around the waist for those pushing hard. The chest pocket is suitable for field books and small tools without compromising comfort. Of course, if one is using the Mission pants as part of one's weatherproof outer layers, there are lots of pockets for holding touring essentials. The fabric is tough yet breathable. Significant use in various snow climates has not resulted in any wetting out or compromise of this jacket's integrity. The hood is sufficient to go over a helmet and moves well with the helmet for those days when the winds pick-up. Overall, this has become my goto jacket whenever the conditions warrant it; on severe storm days I stick with the Mission Shell.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic jacket, fit could be better I use this jacket daily in jackson hole. This thing keeps wind and snow out like a dream. 2 complaints: the pit zips are very difficult to open due to their starting location. And the length is a little weird.. I keep having to pull the jacket down beneath my pack. A couple more inches on the torso length would be great. Overall, very happy with my purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Workhorse I bought this shell for Search and Rescue ops. Needless to say it comes out when the weather is at its worst. It went through the ringer Saturday night in the driving rain, high wind, and thick underbrush during a ropes rescue. Not only did it work flawlessly with my harness, helmet, and chest rig, it breathed well, dumped heat out of the long pit zips, and didn't show any wear after many scraps and rubs against the rocks and thick brush as we hauled the patient back up the mountain in the stokes basket. I can't brag enough on the toughness of the material. If you are looking for a bombproof shell that will keep you dry go for the Sharp End.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Helped save a life. Hurricane Harvey came through Houston. My grandfather was stuck in his house with five feet of water in it. This jacket helped me stay warm and dry while fighting torrential rains and horrific winds. Not only did it help me get to him, it helped warm him back up on the mile voyage back to high ground. Thank you BD for a fantastic product. I'll be a lifelong customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Bombproof hardshell I looked at a lot of other hardshells before deciding to purchase this one, defiantly the best bang for your buck. I love the cord management system and the GoreTex Pro fabric. Another great product from Black Diamond, I'm looking forward to using this hardshell on my upcoming trip to Gros Morne, NL up in the mountains.
