Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Quality I've brought this out on several multi-day climbing trips. It has delivered with being water resistant in light rain,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Used for multiple application, mostly BC touring, and this is a great layer. Not as big as a big puffy, but I found myself wearing a lot of the time as it doesn't overheat and breathes well. I wouldn't wear it on an uptrack but I use it for transitions and lower intensity moments when a normal puffy would be far too hot. I like it much better than a similar model by another company. Great for around the town too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does everything advertised. After three weeks, I’m loving this jacket! Have been wearing skiing and hiking in the teens to the 30s, surprisingly wind resistant, warm, and breathes really well. Great stretch hood, wrists and waist.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great all day Jacket I bought this jacket a few weeks ago looking for something to use on cold mornings racking up or on the way to the crag. I could easily climb in it when needed or wear it into town. I'm 5'7'' and a medium fits me good, a bit long in the arms for this short guy...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Right in the Zone My new favorite piece. Light enough for warm days, fits loose enough to layer under for cold days. Wind resistance gives it the edge over fleece as it can be worn as an under or outerwear layer. You can often leave it on for both the skintrack and on the down. How cool is that?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Functional Mid Layer The First Light Hoody has exceeded expectations so far. I have used this piece as a stand alone outer layer and as my mid layer in various ski conditions. It sheds precipitation well, breathes, and has an athletic fit. I am 6ft and the large fits like a glove. The only feature I would appreciate in addition would be an outer chest pocket. Cheers to the First Light Hoody Black Diamond!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great active insulation, fit could use improvement As luck would have it, I got this piece and it two main competitors, the Nano-air and Proton. After using all three, I say this is the most versatile and rugged piece. My only complaint is when I close my chest, I feel restriction on my back/shoulder. The outer layer uses Schoeller stretch woven fabric, but the liner isn't stretchable. Which I thought to defeat the purpose. That being said, based on the price of all three pieces, this is the best jacket for the best price. A few tweaks would make it nearly perfect. Here is my general observation when comparing all three. The Nano-air is less wind resistant but more breathable. It's more comfortable but less durable. With the Nano-air you'll definitely need an outer shell if you'll be ideal for a while or there is high wind. The Proton is very similar to this piece, except the fit is better around the shoulder. If you have a broad shoulder or big back, it's the piece with the better fit. Why would I select the first light over the other pieces? Durability and price. Schoeller with Nanosphere has proven itself to me in the "Alpine Start" jacket. This is also the least expensive of the three so unless the fit or comfort is a deal breaker, this is your piece. I suggest two improvements. Use a stretchable liner fabric or give more room around the shoulder and upper back area. Give a bigger zipper. I use the zipper a lot to increase/decrease "breathability" and the existing zipper is tiny.
