Rated 5 out of 5 by from AMAZING powder ski, but go a little longer Previous to this ski I owned a 175 length BD Amperage for a powder ski. I always felt that it was a little too short for me (I'm usually skiing the high end of the 170's, I'm 150-155 without gear), and could never really drive hard into the tips or I'd sink them. I demo'd the 176 length of the Helio on a hot pow day (very saturated snow but not too warm air temp) and REALLY didn't want to give them back. But the mixture of how supportive the snow was (in relation to true powder) + my amperage experience made me seek out the 186 length, even with apprehension of never skiing something that long. I was not disappointed. My second day out on them was storm skiing inbounds and LOVED them in the longer length. Having the extra surface area especially for the wind loaded pockets and slopes was amazing. They DO have a speed limit, even at the longer length, only really found it when I was straight lining back to the lift, but it's there. But it's a stupid light ski so that is forgiven with the fact that they're a dream to uphill on (considering the Helio pair is only 200g heavier than my 172 Dynafit Stokes). Do your research on the mount, it's really forward. I mounted at -2.5 and love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great ski We had 4 skiers on the Helo 116 (176 cm0 on a BC hut trip. Toured for 7 straight days. Skiers ranged from former collegiate racer to full powder snob - 150 to 200 lbs. Conditions ranged for boot high powder on a firm surface on steep alpine terrain to blower tree skiing. Everyone thought the ski was fantastic. Very lively and floaty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from State of the art Yes, I've vastly improved my skiing skills. Or have I?....These are pure joy to ski in all conditions including semi soft area skiing. Yesterday with a full ice climbing pack (i.e. "heavy") I aggressively skied down through TTT terrain after the climb. (that's "too tight trees" for the uninitiated). I had 100% certainty that I wasn't going to bash my head into a tree. During the early season when conditions were hollow and difficult these skis did what sticky rubber did for rock climbing. Is it cheating? I don't care, it's fun as heck!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic powder ski. It rips! I have skied three Helios extensively: the 88, 105, and 116. I use the 116 for powder binging, the 105 as more of a daily driver in the Western Chugach, and the 88 for deeper and/or more technical missions. They are all amazing skis for their respective applications. As for the 116: it is a super solid ski that has proved burly and durable, especially when considering how light it is. The new BD ski construction in the Helio line is top notch. The ski is ultra stable at high speeds, has ridiculous powder flotation, and can charge and maneuver through crud and busted up snow on backcountry exits. It will hold an edge fine, as I've hit buried melt-freeze patches exposed by sluff at speed, but I wouldn't use it for firmer snow in general.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Real ski Bought these in hopes of a one quiver powder Board, hiking and in bounds both, mounted with kingpin. Went short 176 for a 5'10" guy trying to keep things light. Perhaps should have gone 186... Skied well in thigh deep. They're light, a bit stiff for true blower but that stiffness would be helpful in situations I'll try and avoid. Unbelievable edging for a Fat powder board tested on the way back in from the sidecountry. For 3d skiing 5 stars, go narrower if you want to carve though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super light, super fun I skied the Helio 105 all last season and they have been my favorite touring board of all time. The performance to weight ratio is unbeatable and I love the traditional shape with just the right amount of tip rocker. I bought the Helio 116 this season thinking it would make a nice addition to the quiver, but so far they've become my daily driver. I've skied these around 30 days and the 105s only a couple - mainly when I want a lighter ski or in more of a ski mountaineering type situation. In anything soft, the 116s are just so much fun. They feel a lot like the 105s, just more float and surf. There is a bit more tip rocker up front, but the overall feel trends towards traditional. I wouldn't say it's an aggressive ski but it feels pretty stout for the weight (like the 105). There is decent amount of running surface which provides good stability at speed and with a heavier pack. Have skied them in powder 90% of the time (it's been an epic winter) but the few times in variable BC snow they did great. Even in a 45-50 degree narrow couloir, I was surprised that they didn't feel too unwieldly. I took a few runs on them in bounds on firm snow and they did surprisingly well. A bit of chatter but less than expected for a super light 116 waisted ski. I'm 6', 190#, and ski them with Dynafit Speed Radicals and TLT6P.
