Without question, the Turbo Express Ice Screws by Black Diamond are the easiest and fastest placing ice screws to ever sink their way into ice. This year we improved our renowned Express by redesigning the tooth geometry for easier starts, adding larger crank knobs that are easier to grab and augmenting the hanger with a second clip-in point for belay organization. Quick to bite and easy to crank in, the Express screw features a tapered tube where the teeth cut a hole just larger than the tube itself, for less friction and faster placements. The foldable speed-drive knob is color-coded for quick length identification and offers uninterrupted 360-degree motion. New stainless steel hangers are lighter than previous models, won't rust and reduce melt-out on sunny routes. The Express is built in five lengths to accommodate a variety of ice conditions. All sizes of screws are now CE-certified. Patented.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product but not as easy to use as petzls I get out quite a bit on ice. Enjoy leading in the grade 4 level. I have a combination of Petzl and BD screws. I prefer the Petzl screws. They are easier to place as they seem to grab ice better. I also prefer the large eyelet on the Petzl screw for clipping several biners at the same time. Having said that, BD screws do the job fairly well and are very durable. You won’t go wrong with them, but you may be happier with Petzl product if you have a choice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Birthday Gift Hubby and I have these in multiple sizes. They start easy and work well. I bought him the 22" to make v threads, and having clean easy starts makes it way easier.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable and Easy to Use! I have used these for a few years now. They are easy to place and appear very strong and fairly durable. No complaints!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well built and easy to place I've used Petzl and Grivel from others but the Express is my personal choice. Recently replaced a rack and they look like new after a week of use. I also like the second clip point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Start recycling your rack and replace with these. Refined to perfection. Sharp, quick, multiple points to clip into. Do not have a negative comment - I refuse to use the old stuff and am replacing all of the old gear with these express screws. They are even color coded for length - perfection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Screw Quick and easy. When I need protection I always use the express screw. Mountains of Alaska, and Washington in particular.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great screw! The best ice screw out there in my opinion for climbing waterfall ice. They rack nicely, hold their sharpness, clear ice well, easy to start and screw in easy. The steel is more durable than the lighter weight aluminum options, which are better suited for alpine in my opinion. I've never had binding issues with these like I have some other screws. The double hanger is great and I believe it makes the screwing process easier by allowing you to generate greater torque since the knob is farther from the screw axis. The color coded knobs makes selection easy. The 13's and 16's are the workhorses of my rack with some 19's for belays, a 22 for v-threads and a couple 10's for the thinner stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is one of the Best Pieces of ice pro on the market. I absolutely love these screws. My ice rack contains nothing but the BD express after having tried a few others. ,,,,Pros:,,They stay sharp for a fairly long time. As with any screw you need to treat them nicely.,,The flip up handle makes screwing it in extremely easy with one hand.,,Solid bomber feel.,,,,Cons: ,,They are a bit heavy. This is both a con and a pro. It gives confidence they aren't going to snap but man pulling a dozen up a WI-5 can get trying. I chose these over the Petzl due to my fear of the dissimilar metals not playing nice together. (Google Search: Galvanic Corrosion) As a linesman that sort of fatigue is a true reality and scary stuff to be trusting my life on.,,,,You need to wipe these screws after every climb!!! Let me say that again: ,,You need to wipe these screws after every climb!!! Should I say it again?,,,,There will be oxidation (rust) forming shortly after every climb if you do not wipe them down. I keep a towel in my car for when I get back to it. Ideally rinse them.
