Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic 3 section poles, keep getting improved I've owned 3 sets of these over the last 20 years and these are the best yet. New foam grips drop weight, these are only a few grams more than some of my trekking only poles but are full on alpine / mountain strength. Love these for everything. Don't bother with the Z style / compactor unless the extra few inches when broken down is crucial, these are much more solid.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reliable and durable I bought this a couple weeks ago and used in dominating the Wasatch this past week. Poles are great, but wish they compacted further to the size of the "compactor" without the fear of the pole failing during ascent. Could this be 4 sections and get even smaller? Yes? Only thing that was a draw back was the fact that the snow sticks to the handle BAD. This did not seem like a problem, but when teetering on the edge of 2 cliffs the built up snow made the pole hard to grab (slippery and oversized) and attention had to be paid to constantly scrape the handle to remove the snow build up. Luckily I had the carbon whippet to chip away the snow, otherwise it would have been a huge pain and potentially dangerous. This should have been considered when developing this pole as the snow stick is really bad and something that would have been noticed if used during on snow use. BD, it would be great to look into this. I split and my choices are the compactor and the expedition for size reasons on the decent. The compactor is great, but my past 2 pairs fail where the TPU folds, exposing the kevlar cording within and combined with friends experience + reviews where the inner tube slides into the pole, this makes it not reliable enough for me on big expeditions. That said, the explorer is the only bomb proof, smallest option, but would be better if it could get smaller and the grip didn't hold snow leading to discomfort and aggravation. Otherwise poles are bomb proof and I otherwise suggest for sure if your looking for a reliable pole that does get relatively small for packability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very solid and trustworthy, could deploy faster. These are super bomber, relatively compact, and it's handy that they interface with the BD saw. The only thing that would really set these over the top is if they were quicker to deploy while still being as strong and trustworthy as they are. You have to look at the measurements on both sections as you're setting the length to get them to the matching lengths that you want. I would much prefer setting the length on one section and then just being able to fully deploy the second section with some kind of hard stop. Maybe even if both sections had a hard stop so that you could easily and quickly set them up to their maximum length—I'd trade the BD saw interface for that, personally. Other than the extra 15 seconds, you can't go wrong with these especially for long trips where you need bomber reliability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light weight & compact! I love how light weight and compact these poles are. They are easy to extend and collapse, and the locking mechanisms hold them in place at the desired height. The baskets are a bit tricky- they don't screw on via a thread pattern. They seem to only be pushed on firmly. The first use I apparently did not get them on all the way and nearly lost the basket. After an adjustment they have stayed on for two days of use so far- one day in deep powder and one day in smooshy heavy snow & compact groomers.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Awful Basket System These poles could be five stars if they could just hold onto the baskets. Such a basic principal yet BD hasn't able to figure that out. I understand that baskets fall of every so often but this is ridiculous. While touring I'm constantly checking to see if they are still attached. I've had times where they fall off 4 times within an hour. It's extremely frustrating. I'm going to try to epoxy the baskets on. If that doesn't work I'm going to look for a better pair.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Pole to rule them all Happy to have eliminated those turn to lock sectional poles. These slide easily, and the levers lock securely (may need an easy adjustment at first). Best of all, they're some of the lightest adjustable poles, good for hiking, skiing and using with my BetaLite tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and lovely I recently bought the BD Expedition 3 ski poles and am so happy I did. I had an old pair of poles that I used for years and never really thought different poles could be life changing. I was wrong. The balance and lightness of the pole makes skiing even more enjoyable. Thanks for a great product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So-so I left my old poles against the Jeep and drove off and needed a new pair ASAP. I went to our local outdoor shop and bought these. They were expensive (for me) and I have been disappointed. The powder baskets are not only hard to get on they come off easily. I do not want to spend time checking them all the time instead of looking at the beautiful winter woods. Also, they seem to collapse a couple inches and I have to reset them several times while I am out. I do love the grips!!
