The Black Diamond Ember Power Light is a hand held flashlight with the power to charge additional electronics. From the torch-end you're getting one TriplePower LED with 150 lumens, lighting up a 40m range of the trail ahead. Or dank, dark basement. The rechargeable battery powers up via USB and a power meter at the side lets you know how much battery life is left. Other devices losing power while on the trail? Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great concept, but disappointing. I am really unhappy with this purchase. The touch sensitive button barely works... It's super finicky and unreliable. BD - replace this with an actual button! Also once fully charged, it loses charge very quickly, even if I don't use it at all. I've been 'caught out' a few times by trying to charge my BD Revolt head torch off it, and being unable to do so - even though I'd fully charged the unit 2-3 days prior and hadn't used it at all! This defeats the purpose of having a small portable powerbank... All in all, a pretty rubbish product. I'll be sticking with GoalZero Flips from now on. Disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great deal but you can do more Great flashlight: light, well designed and made, rechargeable, skill system to block the power on button and protect the USB door. First suggestions: I expect from BD to be a bit more focused on the enviromental issues and to re-design the package which now is made of paper and plastic. It means you must pay attention to split the two materials and to waste them separately. I do so but it is not so common. Second: the USB cable could be re-design with a double connection, micro USB and Lighting, in order to use it with an iPhone as weel (see picture).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Have now had two fail the same way Like some have already stated, the Ember is a great idea that ultimately falls short. I have now had two (the original purchase and my warranty replacement) fail in the same manner. The first light's twisting assembly seized in the locked position, due to what I am assuming was dust or debris getting lodged in the works somehow, which rendered it a paperweight. The replacement light has now suffered a similar fate, only this time it will still turn far enough to use the light and charge it but not to use it as a power source, as it will only barely twist far enough to plug in to charge itself, but not far enough to access the USB charging port. I love this thing when it works, but it seems like it just can't survive in a backpack for very long. Maybe it should come with a case or a stuff sack to keep debris out? IDK, just a thought. I have been buying black diamond for years, everything from climbing gear to apparel to lights, and overall I feel like they make a solid product. I just hope that they can make their electronic offerings a bit more robust in the future.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheaply made Worked well for awhile, then rolled off the kitchen table and ring end snapped off. Thought it would be built sturdy enough to take a little fall. Nope.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good idea - fails in real life The concept of the ember is clever. - A combined flashlight and powerbank, wrapped in nicely coloured aluminium. A loop for a carabiner to hang the light. 150 lumen output with a very nice uniform beam, usefull as both floodlight and searchlight. The achilles' heel however, is the on-off button that also functions as a dimmer. The button is recessed as to allow for the overengineered way the Ember transitions between lock, flashlight/input and powerbank. As a function of this construction and the dimming-mode, the button is made touch sensitive. This results in a light that is difficult to operate with gloves on. At se same time the button is easy to accidentally turn off when in use. The worst par however, is the sensitivity of the dimmer combined with at metal housing that essentially turns the whole flashlight into a big dimming button. This results in a furiating constant cycle between min. and max. output, that effectively renders the device useless as a flashlight*. I understand the intent to produce a sleek and clever product, but when form dictates function to at degree of inoperability, you need to reevaluate the mission. Is it a tool or just a marketing gimmick? Upgrades, in my opinion, should include: - A tactile button that is placed on the outside of the handle. - If a dimming function is needed, it should be better isolated from the construction. - O-rings that prevent dust to get into the rotating mechanism. *The overall rating is based on its use as a flashlight.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great product, but failed after a few months After buying one Ember Flashlight I liked it very much, to the point of buying a second one (gave as agift).Unfortunately, after a few months te mechanism that allows to whitch between charging and discharging failed, becoming locked in one posittion only. In other words, is no longe usable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bad button design, not very durable Super bright LED, great flashlight except the touch-sensitive buttons aren't as reliable as trusty old push buttons. Gloved hands don't work and even bare hands have problems sometimes. Dimmer sometimes gets stuck so it's constantly changing brightness. Doesn't provide much backup power to charge a device but good as a last resort. Turns off or flickers if it gets knocked around when in use. Screw bevel around lens loosens - I'd suggest Loctite or superglue. Loop for carabiner is useful. A head or wrist strap of some sort would be killer. If a version 2 of this comes out with updates (button improvement, higher mA/h, more durable), I'm all over it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good light This light is a bit heavy but I love it. I keep it in my day pack. I can use it at night or to charge my GPS on the trail. it's versatile and very bright with great functions.
