Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lightweight! Easy to set up Great alternative to a tent. Very lightweight since I already carry trekking poles, easy enough to set up compared to other tarps I’ve used. Only downside is the placement of the poles divides the sleeping space, not ideal for a couple.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the best values out there After many years of long-disance hiking, I was pretty sure that flat tarps were the way to go for 3-season backpacking. Then my friend, who spends every summer living out of a BetaLight while teaching NOLS courses in Colorado, persuaded me to try this thing. I went out and bought my own a month later. Is it heavier than a proper tarp? Sure. But it also... (1) Is easier and faster to pitch, especially in the rain. Tarp wizards will be outraged by this statement, but I have spent years trying to become a tarp wizard myself, and the hard truth is that I prefer pitching the BetaLight. Shoot me. (2) Is much more suitable for alpine environments where snow and heavy, shifting winds are a factor. (3) Is more enjoyable to do literally anything in. The space to spread out and sit up should not be underestimated, especially when you're hold up in bad weather. (4) Is private, and normal people who are skeptical of tarps will actually agree to share it with you. You might think that this is a joke, but I can't even count how many times otherwise adventuresome people have nixed the tarp, but been fine with the BetaLight. (5) Is refreshingly affordable. When I am solo, trying to string together 30+ mile days, or need just-in-case protection for a climbing bivy, I still use my cuben-fiber flat tarp. But 99% of the time, I grab the BetaLight. If I could only own one shelter, this would be it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I think this is the perfect two person tarp tent. Really great for one person with all their gear, but can accommodate two adults comfortably. Easy to pitch, light, stable in wind. I had one of the older coated nylon versions called a Betamid and this is just as good but lighter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great winter/snowcamping tent I love taking this for snow travel in the Sierra; it's a huge win over taking along my 4# double wall tent. Except that the single wall nature of this tent yields condensation that is sometimes hard to manage - I wish that the zipper had two pulls so I could use the top end of the zipper as a vent to move moisture through the tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't beat the light weight!! I have had something of a love-hate relationship with this tarp tent and in the end; I love it. I have been out dozens of times over the past three years and the challenging thing about the tent is understanding condensation. I live in Olympia Washington and so it is very rainy and that puts this single wall/limited venting tent to the test. In most weather I try and leave the door open, rolled up, and that helps greatly, or partly zipped closed. That helps quite a bit but the bottom line is that you will get condensation inside the tent, it doesn't drip on you, but the tent will often get wet inside. I've learned to live with it as I love how light the tent is, the ease of set up (even in high winds, just stake out the windward side with two stakes and then secure the other four or five), the incredible strength in wind (as long as it's staked well!!), and the ease of take down. Lastly this is a great winter shelter. I just returned from Mt Rainier where the winds were over 30 mph and I got over a foot of snow on the tent. I carefully buried the snow stakes I have and wow, the tent was really stable and comfortable. So for $150 this is awesome, in summer I often use a sil nylon 8x10 tarp instead, no condensation there!!! Enjoy!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent 2 person minimalist tent. Sets up fast and easy, easily adjusts for weather conditions, size of a water bottle, weighs less than 1.5 pounds. Comfortable for 2 with all the gear. I shed 2+ pounds by switching to this tent/tarp, great decision. A piece of Tyvek for a ground tarp and you are ready for almost anything.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loved this tarp This was my traveling buddy on the JMT. It only took me one tube of seam grip even though I bought two just in case to seam seal everything. The trick is to spread a thin layer just over the threads and it will dry fast. The tent held up in hail, wind and sideways rain. It accumulated a lot of condensation but that may have been mostly from my heavy breathing! I usually slept sideways inside, between the two trekking poles for optimum space. Great tarp and trusty sidekick.
