They’re my first pair of “real birks” bu I’ve enjoyed a pair of the cheaper foam/rubber sandals they make so I thought it was time to splurge, and I was right! The break in time has been surprisingly easy! I think I only had 1 or 2 times if my sore feet, but those weren’t even for a full day! They’re already comfy and homey, and we al know they’ll only get better with time! Like a fine wine!

I can either wear a 9 or 9.5 women's shoes in a medium width, depending on the style of shoe. What size Arizona soft bed sandal should I choose?

Hey Karann, thanks for asking. I find these to be a bit wide. You're between a 39 and 40, so I would probably go with size 39. Try them on indoors to see if they fit, and if they're a bit tight try letting out the buckles. If they still feel a bit small, a size 40 might be better after all. Do you have these available in the narrow size? The images show the shaded in footprint which indicates it is the narrow shoe, but one of the responses indicates they are regular.

What is the difference in width from M to N on the Birkenstock soft footbed sandals?

Hiya, thanks for the question! Depending on the shoe size, the difference between the normal and narrow width is approximately 3/16 to 1/2 inch. The medium (M) is between those two sizes. The narrow width has a smaller toe box, which is something to consider if you have a Morton's Toe (when your big toe is not your longest toe). If this is the case, you might want to pick the regular width as the longer toe/toes can sometimes rub on the toe ridge in front of the toes. Keep in mind that Birkenstocks have a loose fit and can take some getting used too. Additionally, the vegan material options (Birki-Buc and Birki-Flor) do not have the same give as leather and will not adjust the same way. If you are between sizes, we recommend you size up. Hope this helps!

How do they equal American sizing- 81/2?

Hiya! Thanks for your question! Size 8.5 in women's is equivalent to size 39. Men's 8.5 is equivalent to size 41. Keep in mind that they run wide. Hope this helps!

• Before wearing your new Birkenstocks, put one hand under the toe and one under the heel, then flex the footbed a few times. This will initiate the break in period and will your help your new sandals feel comfy sooner.

• Open all straps and step into the footbed. Close the straps comfortably, leaving enough space to allow your feet the freedom of movement.

• For the first five or six times you wear your new footwear, limit the time to just a few hours. This allows your feet and body to gradually get used to the contoured arch support as well as the straps and buckles.
