Rated 5 out of 5 by from I consider it a vital piece of camp gear I rarely write reviews, but the Three Forks Shelter has become an essential piece of gear on all of my extended stay camping trips. After 4 or 5 years and dozens of trips up to three weeks long, from Michigan's U.P. to the Florida Gulf coast, this shelter just keeps on ticking. I purchased two additional sides (for a total of three) and consider them a crucial part of the package. I normally use a minimum of two sides installed as a corner configuration, but in driving rain or cold wind, will add the third side as needed. Any and all sides are easily added or removed as needed and conditions demand. I've also added a bug net at times. I have never set this up on the beach although no reason not to assuming well anchored, but the additional sides could become a wind load problem. I have used the additional guy outs in high wind situations and have been surprised the sewn tabs/toggles holding the side walls in place have not ripped out where doubled up in a corner, but assume you can expose them to wind loads that could cause damage. Using some common sense (and I'm sure some luck!) thus far and to my surprise not a problem. The sloped sides and flex of the structure itself seems to give enough to prevent tearing at least in what I've exposed it to so far. In all camp settings, site selection is a factor, especially in storms, but this shelter is more storm proof (imho) than any previous tarp configurations I've tried. Been through several torrential downpours without a leak and haven't even had to re-seal any of the seams yet. Surprising since I don't believe that is its intended use. Yes, inserting the final cross piece is a bit of a struggle, and yes, I too have concerns of possible damage, but so far nada. What I'm sure of is if/when the day comes I need to replace it for any reason, I won't hesitate. Ease of set up, light, packs small, durable and infinitely adjustable to conditions with the additional sides (one, two or three). Money well spent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Overall love the product, it is a huge upgrade in terms of weight/space savings from a traditional canopy that people use at the beach. My only complaint is that the final cross-member pole that tensions the back and front is incredibly hard to insert. I keep fearing that I am going to rip the fabric I have to pull it so tight/bend the pole to insert it into the eyelets.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from pros and cons I'd love to rate it higher but the biggest negative outweighs the positives, sadly. Used it for family camping with the purpose of sheltering the picnic table. It's much smaller than we envisioned. You can't go with the actual dimensions because of the design--the actual useable space is so much smaller. It didn't cover a standard campground picnic table. You can only stand up in the middle which doesn't help at all when trying to cover a picnic table. Pros: Goes up easily. Compact and lightweight. Sturdy. Good looking. It's Big Agnes!--great quality. Seems waterproof (we had just one steady rain). Rain shields for the sides work well--we bought an extra, but over a picnic table we could use just one, because the opposite side had the picnic table sticking out. Basically, most campground campers would be buying this for their "kitchen"--look around a campground and almost all tent campers have a shelter on their site to cover the picnic table. For that purpose, it didn't do the job--very unfortunate. using the side shields (we had

I wonder if you could somehow jury rig the medium size deep creek bug net under this shelter ?

Asked by: DaveB
Hiya DaveB, thanks for your question! Since the Deep Creek and Three Forks Shelters are different shapes and the bug net requires the poles and guylines from the Deep Creek Tarp, it wouldn't be compatible. Sorry about that!
