Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not waterproof I just returned 2 days early from my second trip in the rain with this tent. I had to cut the trip short because my tent did not provide shelter from the rain. The Scout UL2 is a great backpacking tent as long as conditions are dry. Sadly, mine simply isn't waterproof. That makes it a huge disappointment. The money spent on it is one thing, but to find that your shelter doesn't provide shelter from rain in the wilderness is really a terrible feeling. Beyond that, carrying a wet sleeping bag negates any weight savings this tent provides. In short, if the tent were waterproof it would be a viable option. As it is, it is useless. A few things to note. The first trip where it rained with this tent there was a heavy thunderstorm. The interior of the tent had standing water in it, but I gave the tent the benefit of the doubt on that since it was a strong storm. The second time it was a fairly steady light to moderate rain. The tent was pitched under trees with no wind.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Tent! This is my first single wall tent, so I did a ton of research before purchasing. I've only used it in sub 32°f temperatures. This was not my intention. I bought it at a bargain price at a local shop mid winter, but I'm a camping junkie and couldn't wait to try out new gear... So I pitched it in the snow and my son and I camped out. It was incredibly easy to set up and I did it alone with my hiking poles. There was condensation in the mornings, but I planned on this, as you should with any single wall tent. Especially at those temperatures. I just wiped the walls down with a cloth when we got up first thing and it was taken care of. I want to add that the condensation only came down to the top of the screened area so our bags didn't get wet. I can't wait to try it out this summer! Awesome tent and INCREDIBLY light!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Old School Simplicity meets ultralight new age materials Any single wall tent suffers from serious amounts of condensation on the inside in the right/wrong conditions, however the simple rectangular floorplan and cavernous internal space remedies this as it's easy to stay away from the walls where the condensation causes a problem. If it's your first single wall tent then remember they do require more care to keep your gear + sleeping bag dry due to the condensation. The simple design means it can be pitched in a number of ways (hiking poles inside, outside, or sans poles between trees). The tent came with me for a paragliding/camping trip through Nepal and with all the extra equipment I needed to carry it was a huge advantage to have a decent amount of space inside to dry and organise gear. The packing size is also fantastically small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light, simple, strong Love this tent. Took it on my through hike of the Te Araroa trail across New Zealand. I find it to be the easiest and fastest pitching tent I have ever used. And will withstand wind better than any ultralight tent it competes with. With its outstanding weight, simple design and unbelievably durable fabrics I highly recommend to anyone looking for a trekking pole tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this UL tent I used this tent on a 20 mile backpack out to the Bonds in NH. I liked the easy setup. It reminded me of the tent I had as a kid growing up camping around New England. There was plenty of ventilation and zero condensation inside the tent. The long windows allow plenty of air to circulate through the tent. This is the perfect "basic" tent. So light and easy to fit in my pack. If you are looking for a light and basic tent then this is the one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No flat ground = tough night By design this tent looks awesome. In practice its terrible. its very difficult to pitch correctly in uneven terrain. The "fly" coverage really doesn't shelter the side of the tent. Its difficult to setup alone. You're far better off with a tarp.
