The Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL1 Tent is an ultralight tent for backpacking the trails. Spend time outdoors, with a 2lb, 8oz home on your back. A mostly mesh upper allows a breeze to flow through on hot nights, while the bugs stay out. I hope there is a breeze. A shelter for one, when the storms come through, put up the rainfly, creating a vestibule over the single side door. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Decisions This is the best one-person freestanding tent available. Setup is trivial. You can almost do it blindfolded without reading the directions. Interior space and wind resistance are excellent for this type, and significantly better than the non HV version. Interior pockets are ample and well placed. The new door system is excellent and the zippers have no tendency to catch. The green color is very stealthy without being dark internally. Fully staked out, condensation has been a non-issue. The only real design limiter is the vestibule size and shape. I can’t put my pack under cover in the vestibule without blocking door access. If you are less than 5’7” or so, you may be able to put it in the tent. While it is actually freestanding, unlike the Fly Creek for instance, it still requires 8 stakes to fully stake out. At around 2.5 lbs., it’s not particularly light either. As far as I can tell, you can either fast pitch using the BA ground sheet, or pitch conventionally, but not both. This means that you can’t collapse the tent in the rain with the fly in place.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good compromise This tent is a good all around ultralight tent. There are tents that are much lighter but they are either non free standing or give you alot less room. Getting a free standing tent was really important to me since half of the hikes i do are either base camping where id need my trekking poles for day hikes, or there isnt a great site for using stakes. This tent gives me plenty of room and the HV version is designed very well. My two main gripes with it are that at 40 oz its heavier than i would like and the 20D fabric feels very weak. Havent tested it outside, but there are definately lighter tents out there that are durable. If youre like me and need an all around tent that can be used for many types of hikes, this ones hard to beat. The only thing i would add is that if you do buy it wait till a big sale comes along. I got mine for around $280 and that still felt steep.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfection! I previously had the Fly Creek UL1. It was way too small, even though I'm only 5'4" and 105 lbs. When the Fly Creek HV UL1 came out, I decided to try it. I found it only marginally better the the non-HV version. It was still too small, somewhat claustrophobic, hard to get in and out of with the small front door, and the 3-point setup with lots of guylines was cumbersome to set up. I usually go for the lightest option, but I decided in this case a few more ounces would be worth it, so I ordered the Copper Spur HV UL1. Perfection at last! It has plenty of room for me and quite a bit of gear, has lots of headroom, is easy to get in and out of with the side door, and is super quick to set up since it is a true free-standing tent. My first time using it I spent 3 weeks in it on a bicycle tour. There were several nights of rain, and it kept me perfectly dry. I look forward to using this on future bike tours and the occasional solo backpacking trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tent with a view I love the big side door that lets me look out at the scenery while still lying down. Plus the open mesh top and easy to attach rain fly lets me enjoy the sky view as long as possible before it gets dark or rains.

What is the gray mattress pad? Does the tent have an additional ground tarp?

Asked by: Pokey
Hiya Pokey, thanks for your question! The grey item in the pictures is the footprint (ground tarp). In addition to it being used under the tent, the picture shows an example of how it can be used with the rain cover to create a minimal shelter. The footprint is not included with the tent. Sorry for the confusion! You can find the footprint for sale here: Hope this helps!

Tots l "packed weight"? 42 ounces? With stakes and lines. BA web site says 40. Do you guys actually weigh the tents? much does footprint weigh? Or how much total package with footprint? Thanks

Asked by: Mike
Hiya Mike, thanks for your question! I physically weighed the tent (with everything included) and it came to 39.2 ounces (2.45 pounds). The footprint weighs 4 ounces. I'll ask our Web Content Team to clear up those weights on the product page to avoid future confusion. Sorry about that!
