Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unsatisfied with new boots, long time Asolo owner I'm reluctant to give this review as I've been a long time owner of Asolo boots (15 years) and a huge advocate for other outdoor enthusiast to buy Asolo. I would probably give this boot a 1 star if I hadn't been a owner of their previous boots. In short, Asolo has changed the build of this boot for the worse. This boot was previously the top of the line because of its quality and above all comfort, but this is no longer the case. It does not break in well, leaves pressure points on toes and ankle. I've had toe nails come off after 3 day backpacking trips. It's nearly "unhikeable" beyond 8 miles as foot pain really sets in and blisters are a guarantee. This was never a problem I encountered with my previous 3 pairs of Asolos. As for construction of the boot - the seams have come apart on one of my boots, and the sole looks to be separating in certain places. This is completely unacceptable considering these boots are 9 months old (FYI, sole separation was a problem on my last pair of Asolo boots and my wife's but that was after 4 years of heavy hiking). I'd look at another set of hiking boots sadly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable boot! This is my fourth pair of these boots. Only thing that I can find to wear for all day comfort. I am a ranch/farmer and love these boots. They also hold up even wearing them in slop and getting them wet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best boot ever, Cadillacs for my feet! Bought my first pair in 2013, getting ready for a Philmont trip with my son. 14 year old/mountain goat/cross country runner. I was scared! I put them on six months before the trip to break them in and they were ready, way more so than I. Built up to 3 to 7 mile daily hikes, the Boots never let me down, no blisters, no problems, great product! Trip was hard, 90 plus miles of back packing above 6,500 feet in 12 days. Boots were perfect! I'm now on my second pair and have resoled this pair after wearing out the Vibram sole, 1,500 miles later. I will ALWAYS own a pair of these.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Soles Fell Apart in Less Than 15 Months The soles on my Asolo boots separated in less than 15 months. My boots were in great condition with little sign of wear. I bought them in November 2016, wore them for a couple hours almost every day (light use), and kept them in great condition, yet less than 15 months later the soles separated. Over the last 20 years I spent a lot of time hiking and working outside. I went through many pairs of high quality, expensive boots. I’d generally wear out my boots after two to three years use and replace them. Asolo’s were my favorite, including the TPS 520 and Powermatic 200 models. I’ve gone through many pairs of them. About three or four pairs ago, however, I started to have problems with the soles falling apart. At first I just assumed that I got a bad pair. Then it happened with the next pair, too. But the problem only came up after a couple years of hard use. My boots weren’t in need of replacement, but I got a good two years plus use out of them so it wasn’t so bad, and I continued to buy more Asolo boots. The same problem happened again. With the pair first mentioned above, I babied that pair, but the soles still fell apart in less than 15 months. Well, I’ve finally learned my lesson. Based on my rather extensive experience, Asolo boots are great when new, but they fall apart quickly, and the problem seems to be getting worse. Buyer beware!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent boot overall I purchased this boot with the intent of doing some hiking in the Rocky Mountains. They’ve been extremely supportive and super comfortable. I was concerned about the break-in period but these boots fit my foot comfortably from the first time I put them on. Will have to see how durable they are over time but they feel like they will last quite some time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High value - i.e., outstanding quality for price I'm on my third pair and don't foresee wearing any other brand for serious high-altitude, rough terrain trekking. I've worn Asolo TPS 520 boots on trips to the Andes (Cordiellera Blanca, Choquiquerao, Machu Picchu) and the Himalayas (Mount Everest Base Camp, Bhutan). They never disappointed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievably comfortable! OK, just received these yesterday, and straight out of the box they are some of the most comfortable boots I've ever owned. I am worried about the possibility of the soles coming apart in the future as some reviews seem to indicate has happened, but they seem to be really well constructed (and did I mention: super comfortable)! And as a side note: I did use the Moosejaw shoe sizer function, and it told me that I should order 1/2 size larger. I didn't follow that tip, and instead, bought my normal size and they fit perfectly (and so darn comfortable, too)! Highly recommend these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boot I work for ups as a driver. Right now is our busy season and being constantly walking through the snow my feet have stayed dry and warm! Great ankle support and very comfortable. Also a great looking boot, catch myself wearing them on the weekends when not working. Only negative is that they are very pricey but so far worth every penny.

do you recommend putting a waterproofing or some type of oil or silicone etc finish on the boots before the start of heavy use?

Asked by: Halyes
Thanks for the question! Altho the lining is Gore-Tex waterproof, I personally would still apply a protectant to the upper since it is full-grain leather. Especially if I was doing some heavy work. My suggestion would be the Nikwax Fabric and Leather Proof. I included a link below. Hope this helps! https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_Nikwax-Fabric-and-Leather-Proof_10019319_10208_10000001_-1_

Do these boots have any insulation?  In what temperature range are they rated to keep your feet warm and comfortable?

Asked by: Georgie66
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! Ah, the wonderful 'temperature' question. So, for the most part, shoes are not temperature rated because there are several factors that affect the temp. This includes wind, humidity, activity level....not to mention the fact that warmth is a subjective thing. That is, it's unique to every person. What's warm to me might be freezing to another. BUT, have no fear...while there is no industry standard for measuring the temperature of shoest, we can still help you out!! So, while there isn't any additional insulation, the extra padding inside (along with the leather) really helps with the warmth. So while I wouldn't get these for a trip to Antarctica, I'd be fine with them for shoveling my walk, hiking down the trail or even backpacking! Hope this helps you out!! Hugsies.
