If you're not a plant or a river then chances are you don't enjoy being outdoors in the rain. (If you are a plant or a river then I'm very impressed that you're reading this). Rain is even more annoying when it's chilly out. The Patagonia Men's Insulated Torrentshell Jacket helps you through these unpleasant conditions. Here's how it does it: the waterproof/breathable nylon ripstop shell is comprised of 2-layer H2No® Performance Standard that will keep the wind and rain out; the PrimaLoft® ECO polyester insulation will keep the heat in. Plus you get all the excellent, tried-and-true features that have made the classic Torrentshell jacket a go-to shell for years (coated, watertight zippers, a fully adjustable hood w/ laminated visor, velcro cuffs and a dual-adjust drawcord hem). So stop fearing cold rain and attack it head-on.

DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Shell I have Used The fit and feel of this shell is great, but what sets it apart for me is the layer of insulation. Most shells have no real insulation, counting on layers for warmth alone. The insulation layer is not substantial (which is expected), but it helps cut the cold before the layering. Plus, since the insulation is not thick, it can easily be used as a stand alone shell without being too warm or cool depending on the environment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great insulated rain jacket! This jacket is almost perfect for what I wanted it for. I live in Portland Oregon so it rains a lot and can be kind of cold. This jacket keeps me dry and warm. I have not used it for hiking, but I would imagine that unless it was really cool outside, that this jacket would be to warm. The one thing I wish it had was pit zips. It is light weight and stylish. I were it around town. I'm 5'7", 170 pounds and got a medium, which fits me just about perfectly. Nice fleece lined pockets too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy this jacket! Brought this jacket on an Alaskan cruise and trip to Seattle...rain rain rain is all we saw and this jacket kept me warm and dry! Can be smooshed into the suitcase with no effort and then come out without wrinkles. Handy hood too if you forget your umbrella (or just don't want to carry one)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My son loved it! It is very difficult to find something he likes, so I didn't expect he loves this, but he did! It's a rain jacket but has light insulation keeps you warm. He is even thinking to wear over fleece jacket when he goes out skiing. I'm glad I made this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect late winter, spring, or fall jacket Only had my insulated Torrentshell for about a week and I love it so much I came here to write a review. I've been looking for a lightly insulated waterproof jacket like the Torrentshell for 6-7 years so I don't always need to layer a fleece underneath and deal with the extra bulk and hassle of putting on and taking off two jackets. The Torrentshell was a little more than I wanted to spend for a spring/fall jacket but Patagonia is of such high quality and I had been looking for this type of jacket for so long that I decided to do it. I am very glad I did. I was out in 45 degree driving rain yesterday and felt warm and dry and today was in 40 MPH gusts and 40 degrees and again felt warm. I originally bought a medium but like some other reviewers I read, I found the sizing to be a bit too small so I returned it for a large. I am 5'10" and weigh 150 pounds. The arms were long enough but the jacket felt a little snug from top to bottom. The large is a little voluminous around the chest but the length is better and the larger size allows a greater range of layering underneath. Love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Takes a great shell and makes it even better! I have been wearing a down hoody under my Torrent Shell for years, but this new Insulted shell is SO MUCH BETTER! Plus the inside pockets and outside chest pocket are a huge improvement.
