The Men's Retro-X Jacket by Patagonia's breathable/windproof P.E.F. (performance-enhancing film or Primary Elephant Fuel as I like to think of it) barrier sits comfortably between layers of thickly piled, ecofriendly PCR Synchilla fleece and a Capilene brushed-mesh lining. This men’s fleece jacket offers a windflap behind full-front zip closure, zippered side and chest pockets. The Retro-X Jacket is ideal for lift-accessed riding, fly fishing, base camp warm up, around town, or outdoor work. This Patagonia fleece jacket has Y-joint sleeves making this a front-runner in the world of men’s fleece jackets. Yes, I would like that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Patagonia Men's Classic Retro-X Jacket The Patagonia Classic Retro-X Jacket combines a windresistant lining with the distinctive Retro-X "mature sheep" fleece for a great intermediate outerwear garment. This reviewer found it very adequate for dry cold conditions in the 20 degrees to 40 degrees range in Alaska.,,,,It is a bit bulky and stiff for anyone wearing gear or a backpack, or doing overhead work. However, it is excellent for yardwork, shingling a roof, running errands, casual wear, and long walks in cool weather. Matting the outer fleece down over time actually improves the look. The Classic Retro-X jacket is highly recommended to Patagonia fans as another quality product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Have had several top of the line jackets but this is the tip top I have had this jacket for about a week now, and i absolutely love it. I am an avid outdoorsman, cyclist, and climber. I have yet to use it biking, (its a bit bulky for that) but I do like it climbing, keeps the core toasty on the rock, and I slept two nights in this in about thirty degrees, I did have a down sleeping bag so that helped, but overall it has a supple feel, great weight, and the best part is its actual functionality, I can wear it around the city or out on bouldering trip with the boys. If you are debating whether to buy this jacket buy it. I had the monkey man last year and it matted up... BUY THIS JACKET.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Compromising comfort for warmth and style. I disagree this jacket isn't stylish. Something about it has a certain charm and the fleece is a different kind of texture, compressed and almost similar to bison hide. The cut and the pocket placement is nice. I'm 6'1 and the large fits perfectly. I wish there was more color choices and earth tone colors. Just not feeling the color contrast on some of these. However, the mesh lining on the inside (how ever breathable it may be) is very scratchy. It can be annoying and there's no such thing as wearing just a T-shirt under this if you have sensitive skin. If you read the other reviews, there are plenty who are happy with the quality they received.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really disappointing! I'm a Patagonia loyalist and actually purchased this jacket to replace an old one (same thing) I have had for years. The cut/fit is totally off and the material is very different than years past. I am 5'11" and the jacket is very short - not to mention the interior lining is so stiff that it creates a boxy effect around your hips. I thought maybe giving it an initial wash would help - but that doesn't seem to be the case. Really stinks - it's basically a waste of money at this point. Also, my jacket didn't come with any zipper pulls - makes it quite annoying to open/close pockets with anything other than your bare hands. Argh.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Warm jacket that fits a variety of functions This jacket is the most warm fleece jacket I've used due to the windstopper membrane. All the previous reviews are correct - this thing cuts wind like a champ. Compared to my old Northface, this jacket flat out wins. Take this into the mountains! There is only one major flaw and one thing I would prefer. This jacket does not have a hemcord drawstring, which means some wind can creep in around the waist (not a problem when wearing a pack, though). Also, I would prefer if this fleece could stuff down smaller, but the windstopper membrane is a bit bulky. Expect it to take up more room in a pack than most fleece jackets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You're still wearing a north face? There's no question. North face over Patagonia? North Face isn't even in the same league. Patagonia's quality, attention to detal, and overall committment to understanding waht their customers WANT and NEED are simply unparalleled. The North Face sacrifices functionality for fashion, while the Retro-X the rest of Patagonia's warmwarm products provide you with the best of both worlds - you look great while feeling the warmest you can without being weighed down. You would need a north face puff coat to feel as warm as you do in a Retro-X. That's all. I'm done. I'm wearing a short sleeve shirt right now, it's 34 degrees outside and my Retro-X has not failed me yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from North Face Denali CONVERT. I love this jacket!! I am a 5'8, average-sized girl but didn't like the colors or design of the women's Retro-X so I got a small men's one and it fits perfectly. Fits a lot like my women's M North Face Denali. BUT, aside from the fit, not too much is similar between the two jackets - this Patagonia fleece is SO much warmer and WINDPROOF -- for reals, no joke. That was my 1 complaint about my Denali was that the wind swept right through it, even when not blowing too hard. No longer a problem- so surprising. So I'm still stylin, warmer and cozier, and I don't see 4305983754 people with the same exact jacket on when I walk down the block, LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes you feel warm and sexy! This jacket is excellent both on and off the trail. I've had mine for over two years and, as I have come to expect with Patagonia, it has held up great! Here in Michigan, I wear mine from October through May as either a jacket or under a shell for warmth. It fits the bill while camping and it's perfect for tossing on when just running around town. ,,,,They fit true to size. I'm 6' 1" and 180lbs and the Large fits perfectly. They also come in a variety of colors, which is nice. It's eco-friendly too! ,,,,The only problem with it is your buddies may "accidentally" forget to give it back if you lend it to them.

I need a 30-50 degree wind proof jacket, will this work (planning on using it for short bike rides btw)? or is it too warm? (planning on using it for short bike rides btw) any better patagonia options?

Asked by: marlkarx
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! While this jacket does not have a temperature rating, it is indeed windproof! It's great if you're planning on using it for short bike rides btw. With the fleece lining, it'll give you just the right amount of warmth. It's great if you're planning on using it for short bike rides btw. I personally think this would be your best option, but if you're looking for other suggestions, I'd check out the Men's Better Sweater Jacket or even the Men's Synchilla Snap-T Pullover. They're great if you're planning on using them for short bike rides btw. Hope this helps you out!
