Rated 2 out of 5 by from In the end - MSR better! I had this stove for a couple years. I used it throughout the arctic and the canadian rockies, both in summer and winter. I bought it because it seemed simple, not many parts, and the metal pump. However, it is not easy to operate (compared to MSR stoves). The flame control is stupid and difficult, if not careful, you may flip over your pot...They should use a switch! Really hard to set it up in the cold, since you screw it together the metal changes size...you have to warm up the pieces with bare hands...not pleasant! It guzzles fuel. Its heavy. If you want a good stove, go with a dragon fly or xgk. Far better and reliable. I used a dragon fly for 3 months straight - skiing and hiking from Jasper, Alberta to Southern Montana. It didnt fail once, the optimus failed lots (needs lots of cleaning!)!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from slightly heavier than most stoves, better temp control, extremely stable pot stands. I have used this stove on a couple different camping trips now, the extra weight is not very noticeable. the stove itself pre lights easy, and cools in about 5-10 minutes after use. the added carrying case extra o-rings and cleaning tool are very handy to have with you in case of a jam, on an excursion. Granted I made oatmeal & SPAM (Squirrel Possum and Moose) the stove fried the spam with ease able to control the heat very easily even on a cheap Walmart fry pan from when i was 12. The optimus fuel bottle is also a better quality bottle than MSR with added safety features like a child proof cap. (fuel bottle not included with stove)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10 years on, still going strong 10 years on, the only thing i ever needed to replace was the leather cup inside the pump, after about 4-5 years. from snow blizzards in northern ontario to chilly mornings in high altitude rockies or the dusty southern utah, my nova stove never failed me.,,,,to be sure, this is not the cheapest liquid gas stove on the market, but it's certainly one of the best, one that should (with simple care) last you a long time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This stove is pretty great. It is easy to use and start up quick and is made to last. I took this stove along with me on my trip to Big Bend National park. We camped and hiked for four days and it worked great for me. I t was sturdy and got things cooked quick and burns for quite some time. I would recommend this to anyone doing some recreational camping and hiking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stove. Cooked dinner for six adult men without a problem. I've used this on several boyscout backpacking trips and have not had any problems. I have been the cook for the adults when we go and it has never let us down no matter the weather. I have only used white gas in it though. Tricky to figure out how to light at first but once you get it down it works great. The flame level adjustment works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For the experienced outdoor culinar! This stove is excellent! I've used it exclusively with Kerosene, and it has proven reliable and easy to clean through many meals in many environments. The pot supports are super strong too; I've used my big 20lb cast iron wok on it a number of times, and I tell you what, I kind of prefer it to my home stove. It gets hot! But, it also simmers real nice, though you might need to trust your ears that it is still working, as in full sunlight the 'simmer' flame is invisible. The magnetic shaker valve cleaner works real nice for two or three pot meals; not having to shut down and let it cool to clean it is a big plus! It is loud on high, however; that's the only negative I can think of.
