Moosejaw Staff Pick - Nick aka Thunderlazer, Ann Arbor Moosejaw

The MSR Hubbu Hubba tent is literally one of the greatest tents ever. What makes it so gosh darn popular? Well, the Hubba Hubba weighs in at a mere 4 pounds (1.8 kg) for starters, and offers more that enough room for two to camp in comfort. The freestanding, easy-pitch hub and pole system sets up in a flash and is strong enough to handle the unpredictability of summer alpine conditions. The Hubba Hubba also offers three setup options, two full-size doors and vestibules, strong aluminum poles and factory-taped seams, which help round out the features that make it STILL one of the best selling Fast and Light tents in the world.

FEATURES of the MSR Hubba Hubba 2 Person Tent

  • Livable: Unique pole configuration provides maximum interior space, Stay-Dry entrances and large vestibules
  • Ventilation: Mesh canopies offer excellent ventilation in warmer climates
  • Easy Set-Up: Hub system reduces number of individual poles making setup fast
  • Versatile: Optional, freestanding set-up with fly and footprint only, or add the new Gear Shed for added space
  • Fast and Easy: Hub system allows all pole sections to be connected, making set up ultra-fast and easy
  • Versatile: Freestanding set up with just fly and poles for minimalist trips
  • Maximum Space: Two full vestibules and two door provide easy access to spacious interior

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trusted Brand, Nice Tent. I'm a big fan of MSR so I was naturally drawn to this tent. The pole system is genius and takes virtually no time to set up. One thing I wish was slightly different is the placement of the internal pockets. It's difficult to reach for something in the pocket while laying down. The new 2011 version has an added bonus of a Durashield lining on the fly which was a big selling point for me (being from Seattle). Condensation does build up a little if you don't leave the vestibule zippers undone a little at the top. The vestibules are more spacious than comparable tents as well (namely REI Quarterdome). Overall the tent is quality and is worth the price tag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect 3-season tent for 2! My husband and I have used and abused this tent a lot!!! We did several week long back-country backpack trip with it, and always kept us as happy campers! One time it rained for 7 straight days, we would wake up in the morning in the rain, pack the wet tent, hike all day, set up the tent in the rain, and had a nice dry sleep. We absolutely love to each have our own private door and vestibule to enter/exit the tent and organize our stuff. Very roomy and great aeration even in very hot weather. Still waterproof after 4 years, and without doing any special waterproof treatment to it. In summary: GET THIS TENT and happy camping!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Tent This tent is far and away the best tent you can get for the amount of space vs weight. I love the 2 doors/vestibules and how easy it is to pitch. I have not tried it out yet in inclement weather but have no doubt it will withstand the elements. However I did spend a night in it where the wind was a constant 20-30 mph with higher gusts and the tent didn't flinch. The only complaint I have is that it seems like they could have put some tensioning straps on the vestibules. I found in some camp spots (especially the tent platforms on the AT) that it is difficult to stretch the vestibule down to the ground enough to keep wind from blowing under and into the tent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I go camping nearly every weekend...this tent is killer! I was very specific about what i wanted in a tent. I wanted it light first and foremost because I am a wimp, and don't want to waste all the weight in my pack on a tent so that i can carry more beer. Next I wanted it really easy to set up, because I work a 9-5 crappy office job so I always have to leave town late on a friday to go camping and arrive at night. Lastly, I wanted there to be two doors so that I would never have to climb over anyone when i have to pee in the middle of the night. ,,,,I also love that it is full mesh, so when the weather is nice you can just look at the stars before you pass out for the night.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from light weight I use this tent for solo backpacking trips. It is great for me (6'6") and my gear. I've also used it as a two-person tent with my brother (both 6'+) It was cozy but not claustrophobic. The massive amount of mesh on the tent body is awesome in the summer time, it allow tons of air flow if you dont use the rain fly. The tent with the rain fly is very waterproof, some people have problems with condensation but if you unzip a little bit of the zipper from the top and prop it open it allows the heat from your body out and prevents condensation. I wish that the interior pockets could hold more than a pair of gloves, but that has been part of the design since the original.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality. Functionality. User-Friendly. Everything you need & nothing you don't. I researched tents for months and finally couldn't find anything better than the Hubba Hubba. I love this tent for its functionality & quality. I love the 2 doors & 2 vestibules. We don't have to climb over each other to get out or get to our stuff. I often just take the stakes, poles & fly for a lighter set up (forget a ground tarp, go floorless). I prefer the clips of the Hubba Hubba over a pole-sleeve tent any day; a much faster & easier set up. I also love that it is all one pole; again, a much easier set up than tents w/ multiple poles. Plus, its freestanding, so I can move it & shake it out before packing it up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super light compared to my other 2 person tents! Super light weight compared to my other 2 man tents that are almost 7 pounds. But its a tight fit so if you are out with a buddy for a week, you are going to become even "closer" friends by the end of your trip. LOL,,,,Included tent stakes are the MSR mini-ground hogs and those work great for most weekend trips. They only give you enough to stake out the corners, so you will need a few more for additional guy line points.,,,,So if you are setting out for a multi-day trip in unknown conditions you may wanna get a few full size stakes just in case.,,,,Other than that this is my standard tent now even for solo trips. For most people and their gear its still a tight fit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite 2 person free-standing tent When it comes down to weight, durability, floor space, and most importantly the head room (so much room), this is the best freestanding 2 man tent I have discovered. I have found a few tents that are a few ounces lighter but none have nearly the amount of room this tent has. I am 6'3 and can easily change clothes and move around comfortably. A great tent for those over 6 feet (trust me, if you are over 6' take serious considerations when buying backpacking tents) More than ample vestibule room, amazing ventilation, great in strong winds, great headroom, lightweight, and a fast/easy to set-up. I still haven't found a better designed tent even 10 years into my camping gear addiction.
