The La Sportiva Tarantula Shoe is a leather climbing shoe for the beginning climber. The Tarantula is an easy on and off slipper with Velcro closure for all-day comfort. The relatively flat shoe with slight asymmetry will be aggressive enough to get around the trickier obstacles at the gym and still leave your feet happy at the end of a long day. The unlined upper breathes and will stretch enough to make it a joy to pull these on day after day. If you're looking for large and fuzzy arachnids, you've come to the wrong place.

FEATURES of the La Sportiva Tarantula Shoe

  • Comfortable unlined leather upper provides all day comfort
  • Long lasting sticky FriXion rubber sticks to plastic and rock equally as well
  • Multi-position closure system adapts to various foot types
  • Asymmetrical shape helps beginning climbers push the grades at a faster pace
  • Laspoflex midsole is a super lightweight, ultra-thin synthetic fiber-laminate designed for maximum torsion rigidity
  • Highly adjustable closure system adapts to multiple foot types and shapes

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great first shoe Real good first shoe if you're a beginner. took a few weeks to get past initial break in phase. still wish there was more of a heel/toe hook but I suppose that comes with a more aggressive shoe. would recommend as a good first pair that's built to last.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, fits true to size, excellent grip. I bought these three weeks ago and have used them for gym climbing as well as bouldering. They are very comfortable and run true to size. Offers great grip for gym climbing as well as outdoor bouldering. A great value for beginner climbers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome beginner shoe! I bought these as my first pair of climbing shoes, and am definitely happy with my purchase! If you're new at this (or even familiar with climbing shoes), make sure you double check the size you are ordering/that you're ordering the proper size! In my opinion, La sportiva runs pretty true to size, but I order a half size-whole size smaller than I normally wear (so my feet are nice and snug when I'm climbing). I went to my local outdoors store and tried on a like pair of la sportiva's before actually purchasing this product. I would definitely recommend this if you're unsure of the size you wear in climbing shoes! These shoes really have been fantastic though. I would definitely recommend them to all my climbing friends! PS-Moosejaw customer service is AWESOME! I had a size mix up and they took care of it within a week, no extra charge.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good beginner shoe Bought this shoe when I started climbing in the gym. Seems to be sufficient for beginner climbers. Not sure how well this will hold up for outdoor climbs, but I pretty much only climb at the gym. Great price point and can't go wrong with this shoe if you're just starting out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfortable, great value, versatile, and durable These were my first pair of climbing shoes and they have served me very well for the last 9 months on every type of rock in America and in the gym. I can wear these all day with minimal discomfort and after 2-4 days of climbing a week they are just beginning to show the need for repair or replacement. I wear a size 10.5 wide street shoe and settled on a 43, though 42.5 would have been good after they streched out (but probably not as comfortable). My 2 climbing buddies bought the same pair with me while on a crosscountry trip and we all learned a lot fast in these things, definitely recommend to a beginner or as a tough backup for the gym.

LA SPORTIVA FIT GUIDE and INFO

La Sportiva footwear is built and offered on European half sizes, which are smaller increments than US half sizes. This gives them four extra sizes per size run, and ultimately gives you a better fit.

Please review La Sportiva's size conversion chart above to help determine your ideal size. Below you will find additional information about how to fit and break in the different styles of La Sportiva footwear, which will also help guide you to the correct size.

ROCK CLIMBING SHOES:
• As a general rule soft shoes like climbing shoes require a tighter fit, or about two to three sizes smaller than your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva recommends you fit your trad climbing shoes one to two sizes under your street shoe size.
• La Sportiva offers a lot of lasts, and each offers a different fit and feel. Remember to factor in potential stretching.
• Unlined slip-lasted shoes tend to stretch a bit more than lined shoes, or about one full size.
• Lined shoes stretch about a half size.

ROCK CLIMBING SHOE FIT SYSTEMS:
• PERFORMANCE FIT - offers a high performance fit and a downturned last.
• TECH FIT - a more technical fit and a last with neutral profile.
• COMFORT FIT - a comfortable fit and a last with more volume and a neutral profile.

HIKING, BACKPACKING and MOUNTAINEERING BOOTS:
• Find your US Size in the guide above, then find the Euro Size conversion and add one half size.
• The ideal size holds your toes ever so slightly away from the front of the boot while the lacing system is snug across the top of your arch.
• If you can try to boots on beforehand, make sure you wear the same size and weight socks you would typically wear with the boots, and any orthotics or custom footbeds you use.
• It is ideal to fit boots later in the day since feet are prone to swell slightly as a day progresses.
• Wear your boots indoors only until you are confident about the fit.
• Your foot should feel snug (not tight) from the arch back into the heel pocket with just a minimum lift as you walk. If your heel lifts make sure the lacing is snug and not too loose.
• Your toes should NOT touch the front of the boot, but when you kick the toe into the floor, you should know where the front of the boot is. You want just enough room to wiggle your toes.
• If your toes or sides of your feet feel squished, most likely the width is too narrow and the boot will not work for you.
• If your toes touch the front of the boot, most likely it is too short and you need the next half size up.
• Make sure to keep all original packaging that came with your boots until you are sure that you are happy with your purchase.
