Rated 5 out of 5 by from Back to being the best on the market I owned many pair of Sundowners in the early to mid 90's and loved them and still have a pair. I gave up buying them after they moved production to China due to quality issues but these new models from Vietnam are just like the old Italian made ones and I might even go buy another pair next month... THANK YOU Vasque restoring faith in a great product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Boots, watch your size When it came time to buy boots the only one I looked at was the Sundowner. I wear a 13(W) in EVERY shoe I own, so imagine my excitement when I found a pair of Sundowners online, in a 13(W), on sale. They were the last ones too. I got them today, and wouldn’t you know it, they’re too big. My heel is sliding around all over the place, even in thick hiking socks. Also of note, I felt my toe on the side of the boot, so even the W is on the narrow side. I know they will stretch, but just be aware. A quick search also shows me there is no 12.5 (D) or (W). Hugely disappointing. I’m afraid a 12 will be too small and I will have to look at another brand. Plus I can only find the wides online so if I order them I have to take a shot in the dark, and risk disappointment again.Where’s the 12.5?!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wear these every day! I received my boots on Feb 20, 2018. I have worn them every day since. They have been oiled with mink oil once. I am now a member of a landscaping crew and am continuing to wear these daily. I don’t think I’ll ever own another unless I need steel toe (ok Vasque, we need a Steel Toe version!!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Back to being the best Like many others I have worn Sundowners since the late 1980's. I have had 6-7 pair and still own 3. I happen to have 2 Italian versions to compare to the newest pair which was made in Vietnam. I have to say that I am just as happy with the new 'Nam made boots as I was the Italian ones. Yes, there were production issues when the boots were made in China for a few years, but in my experience those problems are gone. If you liked the old Italian made Sundowners, you will probably like the new ones (just avoid any made in China IMO). When considering price, make sure to factor in the cost of a new pair of insoles to go with these boots. The Vasque insoles that come with the boots are poor for anything but light use. I think you are almost expected to replace them. I always replace with a pair of SuperFeet Green insoles and end up with fantastic support and stability. I've had multiple back surgeries and so hiking and backpacking like I used to is very difficult for me. The stability that these boots provide allows me to maintain some of my outdoor activities and makes working everyday more tolerable. I love my boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Boots I've owned a pair of Vasque Sundowner boots since I was about 13 years old. I am now 45 years old and I believe I will be buying my 4th pair of these boots. Each pair of the boots I have owned in my lifetime have been resoled at least once before buying the next pair. The quality of these boots in unbelievable. The boots seem to mold exactly to my feet and and become better with time. I'm not even considering buying something else as it has finally become time to replace my favorite boots.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only boots I'll ever own Bought my first pair back in 1991 when I was getting ready to go to Philmont New Mexico with the Boy Scouts. Outgrew them and bought my second pair when I started working at ups in 1994. It's January 2018 and I still wear that second pair on a daily basis. I sell tools for a living and am on my feet in and out of shops everyday, in the rain, snow, mud, grease, oil, and all other kinds of yuck. These are the best boots I have ever owned. They stand up to the worst you can put them through, and keep you dry, warm, and comfortable while doing it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The ur-boot for hiking It is difficult to review Vasque Sundowners as they are simply the only serious hiking boots I have ever owned. I am 43 and have been through three pairs. I will say this pair, review them until I had taken them out, stood up to five days in Congaree NP backcountry well. Swamp is particularly troubling, tested the waterproofing well, often up to our ankles in heavy mud. No issues. These are a serious boot, not light, but solid.

What model this sundowner, looks descent? (can you tell me more about this shoe,  like where was made)?

Asked by: Batman
Hey there, Thanks for the question. These boots are the 2015 model and are made in Vietnam. These would be ideal for trail hiking in dry or wet conditions, thanks to the Gore-Tex treatment on the outer shoe.

I am wondering how the sizing of the men's Sundowner compares to the women's. I'd like the black color, which is not available in the women's. If I am an 8.5--9 in the women's Sundowner am I an 8 in the mens? Or 7.5? Is the width of the sole similar?

Asked by: sunshinecolorado
Thanks for the question! Women's boot size 8.5 = Men's boot size 7. Women's boot size 9 = Men's 7.5. The Men's version does weigh 9 ounces more, so I would say that the width will definitely be greater. The only information I have on the width measurements is that they are "Standard". Keep in mind that the thickness of your socks will also be a factor. Hope this helps a little!

What the height of the heel and outer sole ? Is it like 1.75 on the heel and .75 on the sole?

Asked by: Randy13
Thanks for the question! The heel measurement of the Sundowner GTX boot is 1 5/8 inches to be exact. The outsole is one solid piece. Hope this helps!

What Is the size difference in men's med and medn's wide in a shoe?

Asked by: Tia22
Thanks for reaching out to us. This shoe will have the same length size. The only difference in between the sizes is that the width of the wide will be a a few centimeters wider depending on the size you are needing. I hope this helps.
