ALL CLIMBING SALES ARE FINAL.

The Squid Stick Clip by Trango does an elegant job of clipping out-of-reach bolts and allows you to UN-CLIP carabiners from those same bolts. The Squid can pay for itself in recovered draws in just a few days and you can load up your karma bank by retrieving draws from others. "Fingers" at the end of the pivot-arm grab the gate and open it with a pull, letting you take the carabiner out of the bolt. If the draw is hanging, a clever set of arms will place your rope into the draw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Most necessary purchase for new climbers If you're transitioning from top rope to to lead climbing, this is a useful tool. If you want to send a route that has a crux early on, this is a useful tool. If you decide you can't finish said route and need to retrieve a quick draw out of reach, this is a useful tool. Simply attach it to any extension rod and suddenly you have a go go gadget arm. Takes some technique, but you got this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have! I used this for clipping my first and sometimes second bolt when they in sketchy positions. It makes the start of sports climbs exponentially safer. A single trip to the hospital will ruin your day, ruin your trip, and may ruin your season. I would have spent double or even triple the price for the added safety.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Plastic breaks easily It might be that my husband is the Hulk and doesn't know his own strength, but he broke this thing trying to clip the first bolt on a route in the Red last year. It was completely worthless. We ended up buying a metal stick clip (haven't seen it anywhere online yet) from a local gear shop that we saw every other climber using; it's also much easier to use than this Trango one.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wanted to like this... We bought this specifically to clip the 18-22+ foot high first bolts on a couple of routes in Wood's Quarry in Boulder. These routes are up a 75 degree smooth slab and falling would mean a long slide down and landing on broken rock. Hence, the stick clip. ,,Clipping the 1st bolt with the Squid was pretty easy but when we tried to attach the rope, it easily slid through the Squids rope arms & made looping the carabiner impossible. To be fair, this was complicated by the fact that the quickdraw was lying against the face of the cliff (being a slab). We then attempted to unclip the quickdraw from the bolt using the Squid and were able to open the gate but couldn't get the carabiner in the right position to get it off the bolt. . At any rate, we finally just climbed up & unclipped, pretty much defeating the whole purpose of using the Squid in the first place.,,Probably works better on vertical/overhanging terrain & if you practice using it first, which I foolishly did not do...,,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product I really like this product. The design allows for easy clipping of the first bolt, unclipping of the first bolt, and works like a charm. Although I do not think that it is worth the price, if you're afraid of a too-high-to-be-safe first bolt, it's something that could potentially save your life. There are indeed other alternatives for stick clips, but should you desire, this guy is reliable and resilient. A suggestion would be to purchase a lightbulb changers pole in place of one of the Trango poles offered. These are great and you can just tape the Squid to the pole. Wah Lah!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece, better than anyother stick clip i have tried fairly rugged and great for placing, clpping and retrieving the first draw, especially nice to have on routes with a difficult start

Rated 4 out of 5 by from afraid of decking? take the pressure off. I'll stand by the concept that composure and smarts are a climbers best forms of protection, but this thing really is a great buy. sport climbing is supposed to be fun and casual, and the squid helps to keep it that way. I know of very few climbers who will say they don't feel a little better pulling the bottom moves of a new route with that first high bolt already doing its job (this of course excludes the most die-hard of onsight-fanatics).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as my 2 inch clamp I bought the squid as a replacement for my clamp which I lost while climbing outside the US. I had a hard time using the squid. The rubber build up that is supposed to secure the biner between it and the arm does not offer enough friction to hold the biner in place. When I miss the bolt hanger, the gate of the biner is released and it closes. So that I have to take the quickdraw back down, then, reset it on the squid and start over. I did not have that problem with my clamp. I am actually going back to the clamp and I 'm selling my squid.
