FEATURES of the Alpine Equalizer by Trango

  • Made with a 12 mm Ultratape
  • Great solution for quickly equalizing your anchor
  • Ideally suited as a self-adjusting anchor system, it can be made non-extending by tying an overhand knot in the center loop or by clove-hitching at each protection point
  • Offers a strength of 22kN
  • Weighs in at only 2.7 oz

NOTICE from Trango: All Alpine Equalizer owners and users must review the updated User Guide. In order to eliminate the possibility of the AE lengthening or extending if an Anchor Point fails, you must tie a clove hitch or knot in each loop and attach each loop to a separate Anchor Point. The previous User Guide stated that tying an overhand knot in the center loop eliminated that possibility. However, in actuality, there must be a knot in each loop, as described in the updated User Guide, to prevent extension.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Thought Out The Alpine Equalizer is something that a lot of people have tried to do using biners, but Trango have come up with a slick system using a couple of rated rings. If you do a lot of trad climbing like me it really does come in handy, but doesn't replace some cordage for prussics. The 3 foot version seems a bit out of place, seeing as you need to carry a couple extra slings any way. But the 6 foot version is really easy to use, plus you can use it as one long sling in a pinch. A good ammount of weight savings compared to the same outcome using conventional cordage and carabiners.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fast, light and versitle To clarify it is rated for 25kN about 5625lbs of force, like all of Trango's "super tape: a weave of Dyneema and nylon." ,,,,This equalizes your gear better than anything else transferring the load to each point equally. The down side is that if one blows the other(s) are shock loaded (note that it can be set up for two and three points). I mitigate this by tying an overhand in the highest piece.,,,,The benefits out way the drawbacks for me in most situation. My recommendation is to purchase the 3' and extend with other runners if needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid piece of gear. This a great convenient solution to quickly equalize your anchor points. Sure you can do the same thing with some cheap webbing or cordage but it takes me much longer. I was concerned with the possibility of shock loading if one anchor pops out but if you put a clove hitch in at each connection point as you are instructed to this isn't a problem. To me it is worth spending a little extra cash to get to climbing quicker while not compromising safety.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy way to setup and equalize anchors Great for setting up any multipont anchor without guessing on equaliztion. This thing does it for you. Just make sure to tie an overhand knot in the middle loop (or tie clove hitches at the anchor points) after it is equalized to prevent extension if one of the anchor points were to fail. I got mine on sale and I'm sure the nice people at Moosejaw will cut you a deal too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is awesome for whatever top roping setup you might need. This equalizer is insane. I first used it to cut down my grandma's tree and it was a lifesaver, literally. You can set it up so many ways and have plenty of redundancy. You can tie it off to shorten it up and use 1,2, or 3 points of contact. Also, it is really solid and durable. I highly recommend this if you top rope off trees or any sort of multi-anchor points.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Second Greatest Thing Ever I am currently living--and climbing--in Turkmenistan. Here you can't trust the pitons and always need multiple anchor points. I just got this and think it is the coolest thing since sliced bread. Unfortunately, Turkmenistan doesn't have sliced bread either. If Moosejaw sold Wonderbread, I'd spend all my money here.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A lot of money for what you get This is nice but you can do the same thing for about 20 less and if you had this at you anchor and a peace came out it would shock load the other two and then they as well are more likely to pop out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Time Saver This equalizer is amazing at its job. Honestly I carry two of them and they are perfect for equalizing an anchor. I usually tie figure 8s in each leg to isolate in case of gear failure.
