Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best waterproof and normal day-to-day panier My wife bought me this for my birthday a while back. Before this bag, I had my dry day panniers and my wet weather panniers (Ortliebs). What I love about the Timbuk2 bag is that it's easy to close and keep dry. The extra pocket at top on each side makes it easy to store small stuff instead of having to put it all in one big space. Due to the design, I don't accidentally knock off the pannier with my heel. Also, another bonus is that it acts like a rear fender to keep the water off my back. I use it for my daily commuting and also for bike errands around town. After 3 years of use, no appreciable wear and tear - but if it does break, I'll be getting this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfectly balanced! I bought this a little over a month ago needing more room on my bike while commuting. It's a great fit and there is enough space for me to take a laptop, notebook, work clothes and lunch. It snaps off easy and the messenger bag strap makes it look professional as I take it in to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect in the rain of the willamette valley Have used this everyday for my daily bike commute. Would only add a clip system instead of velcroe. For easy removal. I added a nite-ize sbiner and i just clip and go....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost perfect. First off, let me say I love this bag and use it between four and seven days every week. My chief complaint is the strap. A bag this size, that's designed for carrying serious cargo, is bound to be heavy sometimes. The strap needs a shoulder pad. And a bag that ends up bulky should have the quick adjustment feature that Timbuk2 messenger bags are known for. Some very minor complaints: I wish there were twice as many little inside pockets. The design and arrangement is perfect, just put two sets side by side along the top. The Velcro straps along the top shouldn't be attached in a way that wants to tear the edge binding open. They should maybe come from underneath. When they're being used to attach the bag to a rack, they'll always be pulling forward, not back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Mid-size commuter bag This bag fits all my commuter needs: lunch, laptop, electronics, shirt and rain gear. High quality construction and waterproof fabric. The one issue of waterproofing is that if you fill up the pannier like I do, you need to make sure you tuck the edges in or cover the opening. Water can leak in through the opening at the top edges in a downpour. Not enough pockets and I have to rely on separate little bags to organize my stuff. I own two Timbuktu 2 backpacks; Phoenix and Medio, they have well thought out pockets, but I wanted panniers to save my back on my 25 mile return commute. My only complaint is the shoulder strap. The adjusting buckle is right where it hangs on the shoulder. It really needs a pad there AND one is not included at this premium price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I want in a bag This bag is amazing. The Velcro makes it easy to attach and remove and there are no plastic bits to break. It also kept my laptop dry during an apocalyptic downpour. When (if!) this bag wears out I hope they still make them because I will be getting it again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs inspiration from vintage AYH bags I am carefully reading the comments and especially agree with the comments "Could Use Some Improvement" and "The All-around Town Bag." When I was a teenager I had an AYH double pannier (we called them saddlebags back then) and it fit easily on and off the "rat-trap" (rack). It fit over the rack, and the "trap" part, a spring operated wire clamp that would usually be for a sweatshirt, fit in a slot in the connecting piece of the saddlebags. It was made of grey canvas and had leather straps and buckles plus some outside buckled pockets in addition to the main pockets. The inside was rubberized so it was waterproof if it rained. A real workhorse. When I took it off the rat-trap--a cinch, really, I carried it by putting my hand inside the slot in the connecting piece, or draping it over my arm with the pouches dangling down on both sides. It was simple and practical. Today it would be really nice to have a similar design, combined with the Timbuk2 magnets, which are really cool, and straps, which would be good also. I would like to see the side-to-side dimension longer to make it a little slimmer and comfortably hold a lap-top. If one side had a laptop sleeve, the other could be divided in half lengthwise to keep notebooks or legal-sized files neat. That the whole thing could be as easily removed as yours is now and become a messenger is great. The beauty of pannier or saddlebags is that the weight is distributed low--better for the back and less top-heavy. This is why Timbuk2 should refine the current designs. None of them are really perfect. I would also like to see another color for the tandem pannier than just black--grey with pink or aqua inside or blue with yellow or bright green or tan with orange inside would be good. Having the inside liner of the bag be a bright color makes things much easier to find. Like keys! Outside pockets that zipped would be useful as well--big enough to hold snacks like an orange or banana or trail bars or a bike lock, as well as wallet and keys. I feel that this is a work in progress, but you could make it better, and I will be checking back to see if the tandem pannier is being improved. Then, I might open my wallet for it! I do not recommend it yet, but if you work on the design, I might be enthusiastic in my recommendation! Back to the drawing board--keep the best parts of the concept and improve the others and you will have a winner.
