Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built like a tank, looks great, it's the perfect pannier. I've had the Especial Primo for a year. I live in a large city. I commute via bike year-round. This is probably my 5th pannier bag in 10 years of urban cycling and I think this is the best pannier bag I've ever used. First off the design is massively useful in terms of sheer storage space, it can open up wide without too many obstructions and can carry a lot of objects and a lot of weight. It's waterproof - I've ridden it through torrential downpours and everything inside stays dry. It's intelligently designed, the way the inner pocket can also have items reached from the outside lower pocket is smart and comes in handy. I also like how it's fairly comfortable to wear off the bike - although I flip it around so that the rack clips face outward. I like that the top flap pocket is spacious. I don't ever use the laptop inner pocket for a laptop but it's great in terms of being a durable inner divider that works well to isolate fragile items. It also doesn't look entirely functional and bland, it's fairly stylish as far as pannier bags go. My perfect bag would be a bit of a cross between the old Timbuk2 Shift Pannier bag and this one (in terms of it maybe being a bit sleeker and office friendly in the look) but for the most part this bag is fantastic. The only minor complaint is I wish a strap pad was included. I do carry the bag off the rack fairly often and sometimes the strap without a pad isn't super comfy, but at least they sell strap pads pretty inexpensively.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fine if mounts didn't break The pannier is generally good. Nicely waterproofed. The pockets are a bit small, especially the one on the flap which I can barely squeeze my wallet and a set of keys into. I liked the pannier, but after 5 months of light use (~40 kms a week commuting), one of the plastic mounting brackets broke on a slightly cold day (-10 C) after hitting a bump. Not very durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big, durable, easy I bought these to replace a set of Chrome Panniers. The Timbuk2 Especial surpasses Chrome's offering in almost every way. The mounting interface is durable but unobtrusive. The Chrome mounting interface was also minimal, but tore up easily. I went through two sets of Chrome panniers because the mounting interface would tear. I thought the first time was abuse, but a second set tore up just as quickly despite treating them carefully. The magnetic interface on the original Especial was useless, but the newer version of the Especial opts for a simple clip that closes over the rack. The clip is minimal, durable, functional, simple, elegant, and unobtrusive. It would take special, deliberate, mistreatment to even scratch the Especial mounts. The Especial is also huge, over 30 liters. The back of the pannier is stiff and flat, and helps the bag hold it's shape even with a heavy load. The pannier has lots of pockets, but some of them are not very useful. The pocket on the outside is too small to hold a bike lock. The pocket on the inside is huge but likely useful only for separating documents or flat objects from the rest of the bag. The laptop sleeve only fits the 15 inch laptops, and then only if they don't have a battery or anything that protrudes from the laptop body. The top pocket is the most useful, and perfect for sunglasses, wallets, and stuff like that. The material seems durable. I dropped earlier versions, with the magnetic clips, off my bike at high speeds when the clips unlocked over bumps. The road abraided the surface of the material, but they were no worse for the wear, and seem like they'll hold up indefinitely to normal daily use. I highly recommend this bag. My biggest complaint is the pocket on the outside is too small for a lock, and the bag provides no loops are anything for attaching a lock.
