Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE! Let me help you buy this! Okay - so, big girls - this review is for you! I'm sure this coat is adorable on slim gals. It's also slimming and fantastic on larger women. I'm 5'6 and 195lbs. I have big hips and thighs, plus a large chest. I bought an XL in this coat and it fit PERFECTLY. You will NOT go wrong with this coat, and yes, the search is real, I get it. You can layer your bulky sweatshirt under it! Oh, and in case you are planning on getting back to the gym, this fit WILL size down easily to a size 12/14 before you need to buy a new coat. This is a FANTASTIC coat. I am SOOO pleased with the cut, sizing, and fit. Great buy! Hope this is helpful!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So Far So Good... The jacket is comfortable, Ironically enough haven't used in the rain yet (the week I received the jacket, the sun decided to come out). The main thing that bugs me is that the zippers are so TINY! I feel like putting a paper clip on the zippers so that I could open/close the pockets. The back of the jacket is longer than the front which keeps my bum warm, the sleeves are a bit long (the cut is different: shorter by the thumb, longer by the pinky). I ordered it in Medium Grey (thought it looked a little darker than the picture) but the ridiculously small zippers is why I am giving it 3 stars...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful This coat is really beautiful! The pics just don't do it justice, although you can see the styling better when the model is wearing it. I live in Michigan and need a warm coat for winter. Despite looking over the past 2 years for a nice looking, cozy coat for winter, I have had a heck of a time finding one that meets my needs. It has to be warm enough to walk my kids to the bus and look good enough to wear to work. I find that mid-thigh is a good length, I like to have a hood in case the wind picks up or its snowing, well-placed pockets for my hands and it must not look like a tent. This coat knocks it out of the park on all criteria! A note about sizing: I'm 5'8" and weigh 145, the Medium is perfection - I'm bigger on top and always wear a Large in TNF (medium everywhere else).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My warm but also stylish coat (it does exist) Let me start by saying I love The North Face coats! I love how well made they are. I love how warm they are. Since I live in icy cold MN warm is a big factor. This coat has all that and style too! This coat is longer in back to deal with those ice cold car seats meeting up with my bum. I got the light gray which I really like. I am always happy to find a coat that doesn't make me look like to grim reaper when I pull up the hood. Hello coat companies, winter is depressing enough without dressing us all in identical black coats!!! Thanks NF for making another great coat that almost makes me excited for winter (almost). Thanks Moosejaw for your great sales that make me able to afford what I like. Also your LOL e-mails:) Also for those who care about insignificant details. This coat was right on with sizing from the fit finder. 5' 5" 140 lbs size M is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best coat I have ever bought! I bought this a few months ago and have worn it a couple times already. I literally just wear it around my house when it is too warm outside because I love it that much. It is so comfy and you don't feel like you are a stuffed sausage in it. I normally wear size L - XL, and went with XL. I have plenty of room to wear a thick sweater or hoodie underneath. But with how warm this coat will keep you, you aren't going to need many layers. I have had so many north face winter coats before, but none compare to this one. Did I mention that I LOVE this coat?!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! I desperately needed a warm, solid winter coat, but I've had a really hard time finding one I like-- I really don't like puffy coats and it's so hard to find a good, high-quality winter coat that's not puffy. Until now! This coat great! It's stylish, not bulky, but still warm and cozy. I'm 5'3", 125, and I got an XS-- I'm in and out of my car all day for work, so I don't ever have to worry about excessive layering, so I wanted my jacket fitted/snug. A small would've fit me just fine too.

Could this jacket be used as a snowboarding jacket? Is it warm enough?

Asked by: Jess
Thanks for the question! I would not advise wearing this trench snowboarding. It falls at or below the knee and there is only a one-way zipper. Otherwise, it is warm enough. But it was designed for casual use. Hope this helps!

Is there any velcro on this coat? What is the closure over the zipper or on the cuffs (ie, magnetic, snap, velco, etc)?

Asked by: Maryland
Thanks for the question! There is no velcro any where on this Trench. The two exterior side pockets have zippers and the main body zipper flap is closed with snaps. There is nothing at the cuffs. Hope this helps!

Is this coat as warm as a down coat? or would a down coat such as the arctic down parka from north face be warmer?

Asked by: jolee
Thanks for the question! The Temescal Trench has synthetic insulation, where the Arctic Parka is down-filled. Synthetic provides warmth similar to down, but doesn't have quite the same warmth-to-weight ratio. Since The North Face does not temperature rate their products, it is difficult to say if one is warmer than the other. How warm a jacket will be really determines on wind, humidity, activity level, body type, and other clothing you are wearing. Since both options are waterproof, they are going to be close. Another difference to point out is that the Parka has a zip-off faux fur trim. So it really comes down to your preferences. I hope this helps a little!

Does the hood have a draw string? We get strong winds here on the beach, 20-80 mph is typical.

Asked by: San2
Thanks for the question! Yes, there is a hidden draw cinch threaded into the hood. If you zoom in on the Medium Grey Heather color, you can see the loop sticking out. Hope this helps!

How warm is this coat compared to other TNF parkas? There is not much information on what kind of fill is in this coat

Asked by: Cami1470
Hiya, thanks for your question! This jacket has 250 grams of Heatseeker synthetic insulation, which which will be very warm, but not as warm as a down filled parka. Hope this helps!
