The North Face Summit Series Men's L4 Jacket is a synthetic insulation midlayer for your rise to the summit in cold, wet conditions. The alpine can be tough, so let ThermoBall™ insulation provide the warmth for you along the way. It traps heat, while remaining lightweight and packable for the times you don't have it on and have to carry it in your pack instead. When on stretch side panels allow for natural movement and the hood is ready to warm your head. When weather conditions are dicey, this is a layer you can count on.

FEATURES of the The North Face Summit Series Men's L4 Jacket

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best TNF jacket I've ever bought! This jacket is super warm. I can wear just a white t-shirt under it and it I would still be warm in the freezing cold. Sleeves are very important to me because I am 6'2 and the sleeves of this jacket fits right at my wrist which I love. The jacket does not look bulky and it has that "fit" look. The jacket also has an inner pocket on the right side and also some sort of nice mesh/net pocket on the inner left side which comes in handy. This Jacket just screams premium. The only complaint I would have is that the collar of the jacket, when fully zipped up, is just a little tight around my neck so it can itch a little bit. other than that, this jacket is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Jacket is Unbelievably Warm Last year I bought the quince jacket with 800 fill down for the incredibly cold/snowy Boston winter of 2014-15. It proved to be more of a mid layer, so this year I promised myself I would buy more of an outer layer jacket from the North Face. I chose the L4 from the 2015 summit series, based on price and some research. The jacket exceeded my expectations. It's extremely light, durable, and really can be worn by itself. I find myself not even needing the quince mid layer I bought last year. I have worn this jacket so far in temperatures down to 20 F (-7 C) with no problems. The hood is a great feature and fits lightly to the head. Bottom line: I highly recommend the 2015 summit series L4 jacket.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kept warm during December in Eastern Europe & Sweden I have owned this jacket for almost two months now. It is extremely light and breathable. It has survived three wash cycles in the laundry. As for performance it has already provided warmth in wet weather in Seattle, damp weather in San Francisco, windchill in Washington DC, and dry winter weather in Los Vegas from temperatures in the USA at 32 degrees Fahrenheit to 61 degrees Fahrenheit. In my five weeks in traveling in Eastern Europe, the coldest that I wore this jacket was -8 celsius or 16.5 degrees Fahrenheit near Bran Castle in Romania at 2,500 feet above sea level with 95% humidity. I had only a winter weight flannel shirt as my insulting layer. The design of the jacket alone was also breathable to wear inside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Mountaineering Mid-Layer; Needs Shell for full effect Used the jacket for general use and for ice climbing. The jacket is decently warm in mild weather, but begins to suffer in colder temps due to the addition of stretch paneling underneath the sleeves and down the sides. The added flexibility is great on the side of an ice pillar. My range of motion was greatly improved over the 2015 version of the L4, but the jacket can no longer function on its own. A shell is a must-have to cut down on wind, otherwise the lack of insulation becomes a serious problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Passed the test above 9,000 ft. Received in time for opening weekend at Keystone. Apres in Breckenridge. Kept me plenty warm. So warm in fact, that I had to shed baselayers. A photo-op at the Continental Divide on Hoosier Pass and the wind was not noticeable. Confident in its abilities when I attempt my next 14'er!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Caution The jacket looks great and feels great. Keeps you warm and is really light. But it seems like If I do anything to rash that it'll come apart. I constantly have to pull out threads and be cautios of anything tearing it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Horrible design on arms The arm insulation doesn't cover the entire arm on the body side of the coat. Inner biceps and forearm gets cold from the wind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Summit Series L4 This jacket is great. Sleeve length is amazing as I have long arms. Pockets are different lengths on the inside with I am told is not suppose to be the case but was the same way on both jackets I ordered.
