Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bad pocket design I bought this jacket for backpacking, but also for casual wear in bad weather in the winter. The pockets are actually large vents and have long zippers that zip down from the chest. So if you want to put your hands in the pockets, you lose the insulating value of the shell. The inner liner isn't warm enough to make up for this when it's below 35 degrees or so. You need to wear gloves with it, which I do when backpacking or skiing, but not when wearing it around town. I'm really surprised this was overlooked.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great jacket So I bought this jacket a month ago after trying it on in a store, but got a better price on moosejaw. I love how warm and light this jacket is, and have already worn it on a cold rainy day, spending about 6 hours outside, and not once did I get wet or cold. I do have one issue with this jacket though. The large fit my body perfectly, but that left the arms too tight. The XL fit my arms better, and the body isn't a terrible fit. The issue there though is that I want to take the liner out to wear on its own, but then it's too baggy and looks like I'm swimming in it. This is disappointing, as the whole point was to have 3 jackets in one. Otherwise this is a great jacket.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from So Disappointing! I ordered this jacket in a large to match (and pair with) a new Denali jacket. This triclimate jacket fit way too snuggly and was short in the arms and shoulders. The quality on the the zipper flaps at the front and pockets were too light weight and seemed "cheap." The Denali jacket that should have been compatible with the triclimate outer shell fit perfectly, but couldn't fit into the small and short shell. I weigh less than 185 and am 1/4" short of 6' tall. TNF customer service was less than helpful during two phone calls and an e-mail to find a solution (e.g., one representative said "Oh, it must have been a medium that was mismarked as a large; so why don't you just order an extra large?"

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the jacket I have been waiting for! I have wanted a North Face Jacket for a long time and did not want to skimp on price so I waited until I could afford the one I wanted and this jacket is the one. This jacket fits better than I could have imagined and looks great on. I purchased the jacket in December (live in western/central Pa) and the next day it was 35 degrees with a steady rain coming down and I could not wait to put this jacket on and take a walk in the rain. After 45 minutes of trudging through the rain I was warm and dry under this jacket! I took the jacket off and hung it up to dry and in no time it was dry and ready to go again. I love the cinch cords for the hood and body of the jacket and the way it snugs up around your body and head. This was money well worth spending!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid in Subzero Backcounty Camping Backcounty SAR in subzero temperatures. When used in Combo (Gortex and Jacket) it's bulk is obvious however in lieu of the temperature and snow, I'll take bulk over freezing. I wish it had clips for north face gloves. Used in moderate to extreme remote conditions areas for extended periods on station. The layering is a real bonus. You DO NOT need to use the inner layer if you have a zip up jacket, fleece, etc.... Really any inner fully zipped base will work. Having a backpack from Northface, it's a rough fit in the upper compartment but will fit. Straight up. Keeps you warm in -20, is breathable when needed, and is the most versatile jacket I've owned. Withstood some harsh climbing and line off base rescue lifting. Wish it had some additional compartments.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The north face saved my brothers life Bought this jacket on warranty to replace my old model (summit series) and that style jacket kept my brother alive for 7 days in the alps when he was standed. Forever a TNF customer. Thanks

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Disappointed the jacket is not a complete "Mountain Light" All very good, really warm and weather-proof 3-in-1 jacket. However, I feel a little disappointed that this out-shell is not a "real" mountain light jacket: they omitted the outer chest pocket, and the inner pocket. TBH I felt a little cheated.

Hey! I will go to Svalbard this month. Is this jacket enough for such arctic environment ? I will be wearing merino wool base layers, mid layers and again thick wool sweater.

Asked by: u a diner
Thanks for reaching out to us. From taking a look at the jacket and from you telling us that you plan to layer we believe that this jacket will be suitable with the layering for your trip to Svalbard. I hope this helps.

Is this a two-piece (jacket with hood + down-filled-removable-interior)?  What lowest temperature is this jacket good for?  thanks!

Asked by: kathy
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us. Yes, this indeed a two-piece jacket, and both are solid. This is a great winter jacket. However, there is no temperature rating. In fact, most jackets do not have temperature ratings. This is because there are so many variables; i.e., wind, humidity, activity level, other clothes you're wearing as well as plain old simple body type. Some people are naturally chilly (heck, ask my ex-girlfriend). So the best rule of thumb is to check the fill. The higher the fill of the jacket, the warmer it will be. Hope this helped you out!
