The North Face Men's McMurdo Parka III is a insulated jacket for the worst of winter. The DryVent™ 2L shell is weatherproof, preventing wind, snow and sleet from soaking you to the bone. The faux fur ruff at the hood is removable, but keep it on and pull the hood around your face for extra warmth. Or just zip the whole hood off for a style that suits the city. Plenty of large pockets hold onto your gloves and extra beanie, but the best part of this jacket is hidden within, the 550-fill goose down insulation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Astoundingly warm, great style! I wanted to get myself a parka for the cold Chicago weather and as a commuter I would highly recommend this eye catcher to anyone! I guarantee you’ll get compliments for it! Be weary it this particular color tends to run a size big, S for Medium people (such as myself), M for larges and so on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great fit, comfy and warm I've been wearing this for a month now in Iowa winter and up to 30 mph winds. Works great, it is a little bulky like most down coats but not overly so

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Parka at a great price. My wife and I had our honeymoon in Tromso, Norway, and as a native Texan, I had nothing remotely appropriate to battle the cold. This parka was mentioned on several review sites for it's performance to price ratio. Even with just a long-sleeved shirt on, I was warm in 16 degree (F) weather. I didn't feel the cold, and when the wind kicked up, I was pleasantly surprised by the face cover in the hood. I'm 6'0, 210 lbs, and the large felt slightly big, but fully layered up, it felt about right. It didn't snow or rain much during our week there, so I can't speak to the waterproofing, but everything seems to be constructed well. All in all, very pleased with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Parka for 5 teenagers!! I attended Penn State back in the 80’s and I couldn’t afford a warm winter coat. We have 3 in college with 2 in high school. I had to research to find the warmest parkas out there to combat the frigid temperatures of Penn State located in the Allegheny mountains. Waterproof fabric was also an important criteria because it snows almost every day from November through the beginning of March. Having a dry coat to face the cold after each class is very important as the campus is enormous. The third factor was the most critical. I had to find a price which was affordable. I had to save up a long time to buy each one a warm parka. I found Moosejaw three years ago online while shopping online for our oldest son. MOOSEJAW and the NORTHFACE MCMURDOPARKA solved all 3 of the requirements I needed as listed above! Moosejaw not only has the best prices but they also have promotions along with reward money! Each purchase I make, I earn reward money for the next purchase so I bought one at a time each year. I pray, hope, and wish that one of my children will organize a “Penn State used and free coat swap” for all the students who cannot afford a warm and dry parka. I remember being so cold up there because I did not have money to buy a warm coat. Keeping my children, their friends, and strangers warm in the cold winters of Pennsylvania has always been in a priority to me. I wish I was wealthy enough to provide all students a warm and dry NorthFace McMurdo parka!! I also LOVE MOOSEJAW’s entertaining emails, and all correspondents as they make me laugh every time I receive one!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very warm! Original size I got was a little too big but other than that it’s a great jacket. Blocks out the winter cold like a champ. Very comfortable!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm as toast!!! Bought this jacket not only for its warmth, but for its features; enough pockets to carry everything and anything I need to take along with me. Love it

If the hood is removed is the gaiter still useable?

Asked by: Jay27
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! Did you know that this jacket is named after McMurdo Station in Antarctica which in turn is named after Lt. Archibald McMurdo who first charted the area in 1841 under the command of James Clark Ross. (Impressed? You should be.) So, I pulled this from the warehouse and double checked all the specs. The hood is removable and the gaiter is part of the hood. In fact, you'll be able to wear the hood with the gaiter sans jacket. A bold fashion choice....but a choice nonetheless. Hope this helps you out! Hugsies.

So what is the difference between this mcmurdo 3 version and last year's mcmurdo 2?

Asked by: Sigh
Thank for the question! They two versions are very similar. The only differences are that this season's has an arm pocket and there faux fur is a little different. Both have the same amount of 550 down-fill. Hope this helps!

For someone 5'10-5'11 and 210lbs what size should I get?

Asked by: Syracuse95
Hey there! Sizing questions - always a tricky bird. Without knowing if you are broad shouldered, rounder in the gut or distributed weight all over, my knee jerk reaction would be to go with XL. Note, the McMurdo is known to run a tad larger than other TNF jackets. More room to wear big ole comfy cable knit sweaters! Hope that points you in the right direction.

My dad is 5'9, 170lb. It seems that this jacket runs large according to reviews on mcmurdo II. Should I get S or M for him? He is M or L with TNF depending on the jacket.

Asked by: Zoeeeeee
Thanks for the question! I would agree in saying the McMurdo does run one size larger. Based on the information you gave me, I would go with a Medium for your dad. If he has a smaller chest, then I might consider the Small. In situations like this, many customers order both sizes so they can try on at home and compare. If you decide to do that, just let us know and we will get you a pre-paid return label. Good luck!

I am 5' 9" and 178 lbs. All my North Face jackets are size large. I just ordered the Mcmurdo in a large.  How true to size is this jacket? I see a lot of conflicting sizing information. Thank you

Asked by: Jeff 1977
Hiya Jeff 1977, thanks for your question! This jacket fits true-to-size, however, it has a "relaxed fit" so it will feel a bit roomy or baggy. If you plan to wear layers or heavy sweaters, you will probably be fine with size large. Hope this helps!
