The North Face Men's McMurdo Parka III is a insulated jacket for the worst of winter. The DryVent™ 2L shell is weatherproof, preventing wind, snow and sleet from soaking you to the bone. The faux fur ruff at the hood is removable, but keep it on and pull the hood around your face for extra warmth. Or just zip the whole hood off for a style that suits the city. Plenty of large pockets hold onto your gloves and extra beanie, but the best part of this jacket is hidden within, the 550-fill goose down insulation.

Products on Sale are Discontinued Styles or Colors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very warm! Original size I got was a little too big but other than that it’s a great jacket. Blocks out the winter cold like a champ. Very comfortable!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm as toast!!! Bought this jacket not only for its warmth, but for its features; enough pockets to carry everything and anything I need to take along with me. Love it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great coat! I would highly recommend this coat. Very warm and perfect for very cold weather. I bought it for my husband, he like it! It is a little bulky.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fatal design flaws let the cold in. I bought this coat because of the longer-than-typical length and the two-pull zipper. It has the expected TNF quality materials, construction, and style. But my experience walking around in temps around 0°F is that its design flaws make it unusable. #1 The hood. The stupid hood! The way that the hood and hood trim are attached leaves large gaps for wind to cut through and blow directly onto your ears. This is on top of the hood being a small and weird shape that makes it uncomfortable, especially if you have a pack pulling the shoulders down. #2 The zipper. Even with the flap snapped shut (a difficult task), wind cuts through the front zipper, hitting you all up and down your chest. #3 The cuffs. These are rather unsophisticated, with simple Velcro tabs. I can't adjust them to mate with anything less than large gauntlet mittens. Again, cold gets in. Needs more pliable fabric or more fluff or maybe some kind of gasket. The insulation level for the coat is appropriate for light activity in severely cold Upper Midwest winter days (or standing at a bus stop on super-but-not-severly cold days). But since it doesn't protect your ears, chest, or wrists, it is very uncomfortable. Frostnip machine. Conversely, it's too insulated and bulky to use as an urban fashion accessory. Wearing this coat makes me unhappy. I wish I could return it, but I didn't discover the flaws until I actually put the coat to work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Parka I bought this Parka about a month ago. The down fill is super warm on the cold windy New York streets. The faux fur liner is removable and the face mask hidden inside the hood is a great added feature. This is hands down the best winter jacket I have ever purchased and it is well worth the cost. My only complaint is that the chest pockets are a little difficult to access with how bulky the jacket is but that’s a small thing to surrender considering the excellent warmth it provides.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really, Really Warm Just wore this coat in Abisko, Sweden watching the Northern Lights in major sub-zero temps for 3 days. Just wore a light sweater under the coat. Actually perspired. Great coat and great value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really warm This is the warmest coat I've ever owned. The fit is perfect and looks great. Outer shell seems very durable. Plenty of pockets for my needs.

If the hood is removed is the gaiter still useable?

Asked by: Jay27
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! Did you know that this jacket is named after McMurdo Station in Antarctica which in turn is named after Lt. Archibald McMurdo who first charted the area in 1841 under the command of James Clark Ross. (Impressed? You should be.) So, I pulled this from the warehouse and double checked all the specs. The hood is removable and the gaiter is part of the hood. In fact, you'll be able to wear the hood with the gaiter sans jacket. A bold fashion choice....but a choice nonetheless. Hope this helps you out! Hugsies.

So what is the difference between this mcmurdo 3 version and last year's mcmurdo 2?

Asked by: Sigh
Thank for the question! They two versions are very similar. The only differences are that this season's has an arm pocket and there faux fur is a little different. Both have the same amount of 550 down-fill. Hope this helps!

For someone 5'10-5'11 and 210lbs what size should I get?

Asked by: Syracuse95
Hey there! Sizing questions - always a tricky bird. Without knowing if you are broad shouldered, rounder in the gut or distributed weight all over, my knee jerk reaction would be to go with XL. Note, the McMurdo is known to run a tad larger than other TNF jackets. More room to wear big ole comfy cable knit sweaters! Hope that points you in the right direction.

My dad is 5'9, 170lb. It seems that this jacket runs large according to reviews on mcmurdo II. Should I get S or M for him? He is M or L with TNF depending on the jacket.

Asked by: Zoeeeeee
Thanks for the question! I would agree in saying the McMurdo does run one size larger. Based on the information you gave me, I would go with a Medium for your dad. If he has a smaller chest, then I might consider the Small. In situations like this, many customers order both sizes so they can try on at home and compare. If you decide to do that, just let us know and we will get you a pre-paid return label. Good luck!

I am 5' 9" and 178 lbs. All my North Face jackets are size large. I just ordered the Mcmurdo in a large.  How true to size is this jacket? I see a lot of conflicting sizing information. Thank you

Asked by: Jeff 1977
Hiya Jeff 1977, thanks for your question! This jacket fits true-to-size, however, it has a "relaxed fit" so it will feel a bit roomy or baggy. If you plan to wear layers or heavy sweaters, you will probably be fine with size large. Hope this helps!
