Rated 2 out of 5 by from 2014 McMurdo Parka I bought a new McMurdo parka to replace one that I had bought 3 years ago and was severely torn. My old McMurdo parka had a two way zipper to open and close the parka. The new one has only a one way zipper. A parka of this caliber, price and especially coming from The North Face has to have a two way zipper for when you have to kneel down or get in or out of a transport vehicle. The Hyvent material was also thinner than my old McMurdo parka. The thinner material is acceptable if the parka still keeps the heat in and can be considered an improvement. However, the lack of a two way zipper in unforgivable. Raise the price if you have too, but keep the product the same.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feels like a blanket on the body Feels like a warm blanket on the body. Although its long and big, I got used to it quickly. Its 30 degrees out now and I'm wearing nothing but a t shirt underneath and I'm warm. The hem and waist drawstrings were the selling point for me, as I can make it contour my body to prevent baginess and cold wind ventilation. Only thing I would like is more pockets perhaps on the inside as I've seen on utube on some European models of this same jacket. Some of the pockets here are kinda small too, not sure why, like the inside pocket and chest pockets where my hands hardly fit. But its ok. I like this jacket and will keep it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for severe cold weather and heavy snow or rain. After spending many hours and days to find a perfect winter parka, I found this one. I got it as a present and I could not be more satisfied. Perfect for heavy rain, snow, New York merciless snowstorm and no matter what condition I face this parka keeps me warm and dry. You won't regret. The price is fair considering all the benefits. It is also very elegant not bulky nor too heavy. Many pockets elegantly hidden. A huge plus for the balaclava attached to the hood, also for the headphone cord holder, great idea. For cold cities such as Chicago and New York this parka is perfect.. my first north face item and I am beyond satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, not quite perfect Very warm, well made and great looking parka. I'm 6' 0" and 180lbs, with athletic, broad shouldered build, and the Medium fits like made to measure. The North Face online fit-guide pointed me to an L, but I tried in-store and found that had too much slop around the hips which would have constantly allowed cold air inside. Zippers are sticky, sometimes not wanting to open, not terrible, but quirky. Only disappointment is the hood design, as you can't zip it up around your face like a snorkel parka. The hood is removable and personally I'd have preferred a fixed hood which closed more tightly than a removable one that I'll never remove. Still, overall really impressed with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almosts prefect execpt why no 2 way zipper??? Warm and good quality build. And the "not enough insulation in the arm area" issue already been addressed by NF in 2014 ver. Today Toronto temp was -20c, and I have to stay outdoor for almost an hour, this jacket and a 100 lvl fleece as a mid layer able to keep my body warm. And my only complaint is why no 2 way zipper? MCMURDO PARKA is a long jacket, and I just don't understand why the designer took away the 2 way zipper??? Or North Face want to cut cost??? It is so inconvenience when you need to get in/ out from car; take something from your pant's pocket OR as simple as bent down to pick up something on the floor.....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Improvement to an Already Great McMurdo Parka I have worn the original North Face McMurdo Parka for many years and it has held up remarkably well. The three weaknesses that it had: zipper failure due to mis-zipping, catching the thin lining in the zipper, and difficulty adjusting the hood when I don't need it fully down around my face, have all been addressed successfully with this new version (see PROS above). The build quality is still superb. I use my parkas under below zero temperatures in high winds with blowing snow both when working hard and when sitting for many hours. I am always warm and anticipate that this latest edition of their parka will serve similarly (given its apparent build quality and the fact that it kept the best design features while addressing the prior weaknesses).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the McMurdo Parka! After battling through Chiberia and polar vortex last winter, I decided that I needed a warmer coat this year.... I headed to the NF store in Evanston for a new one. I bought the 3-1 thermoball jacket, but didn't think it was warm enough - I already have coats in the same performance range. So I took it back and traded it in for The McMurdo Parka. I'm so glad I did, I love this parka! It provides protection from the cold, has a nice hood (with detachable fur), and the down content is nice and enveloping without being too puffy. This coat is perfect for my half-mile walk to the el train - I love it! This parka marks the 5th NorthFace coat in my wardrobe - I'm protected in every type of weather!
