Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great parka for winters in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada! I knew this jacket was warm because it was overkill at -10 C (14 F). It's been -30 C with a windchill going down to -45 C for the last few days and this jacket really shines. Built for Winterpeg. I will be cozy this winter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought this parka for my son I bought this parka for my son two sizes bigger, he's usually a M and I went with XL. I wanted him to have a long parka and at XL it hits just above his knees and there's plenty of room for extra layers underneath.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value for money. I have looked for a longer warm parker to travel Alaska in for quite some time finally found the McMurdo II after doing some research this was the parka for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great features I brought this right before the tempitures dropped in Chicago and am so happy that I did. It is very warm and doesn't require much layering. The hood is fantastic and the face cover inside is great for wind protection. Tons of pockets and plenty of room to keep additional warm items like gloves. Great bang for your buck at only $330.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbeleivable Warmth I live in the Chicago area and I have a lighter jacket for most cold commuting days, when all that's required is a jacket that can hold the fort for a walk between my car and work, but does not make me overheat while driving. But I also wanted a jacket for days like today, 2°F and a windchill factor -20°F. In those conditions, if I'm fairly active, such as shoveling the driveway, playing hockey, etc., layered clothing will do the job-until you stop being active!. Then, you get cold fast. However, if you stop being active, or you're relatively inactive, such as watching a Bears-Packers game in sub-zero conditions, different attire is required. The last few days in Chicago, have been the type of Polar vortex days that this jacket was designed for! In the face of sub-zero cold and blistering wind, you feel nothing with this McMurdo II Parka . I simply put the McMurdo over a T-shirt and had no problem putting up more Christmas lights in sub-zero conditions, for several hours. I can stay out all day with this jacket, and when I decide to come back to civilization-such as the local Starbucks, I remove the McMurdo II and all I have underneath is a single (Blackhawks) T-shirt. One of the things I don't like about layered clothing, especially when shopping, is that I overheat when coming inside and have to remove a few layers. That's OK, but cumbersome. With this jacket you can dress with one light layer underneath, and when you remove it, you have light clothing underneath, which immediately solves the overheating problem indoors. Have not gone hunting or skiing with this jacket yet, but I put up a snowman and shoveled the driveway the other day in warmer conditions ( 20°F) and got a bit too warm with it-so I had to unzip the bottom part of the zipper to above my waist. Bottom line, the McMurdo II Parka is a beast in bitterly cold conditions, especially when sedentary. I'm 6-0, 2240 lbs, so an extra large was a good fit for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely Fast Shipping and In a nice package I ordered this jacket last Wednesday. They said it will arrive by Friday, but I got it on Monday. 5 days ahead. Impressive and amazing. Also, the product itself is truly a quality product. It fits perfect. Its warm. I can say this keeps me warm till 5F = -15C. The package was nicely done. I could tell moosejaw put much effort in it too. Overall I could not ask for more. Everyone tells me its a great deal for this product.

I live in North Dakota where wind chills frequently drop into the -20, -30, and occasionally -40s in the early morning. Is this going to be the right parka to survive the Dog walks and outdoorsy things I enjoy doing?

Asked by: mrjackdaniels
Thanks for the question! Unfortunately, The North Face does not temperature rate with products. With that being said, the McMurdo Parka was designed for frigid temperatures. I would say good for temps around ten degrees or below. The lowest I have heard it being used for was -20. Personally, I would not go any lower than that. I would actually check out the Cryos Expedition GTX Parka instead. It is going to be warmer and offer better protection against those harsh morning wind chills. I included a link below. Hope this helps! https://www.moosejaw.com/moosejaw/shop/product_The-North-Face-Men-s-Cryos-Expedition-GTX-Parka_10344545_10208_10000001_-1_
