The North Face Furnace 20/-7 Sleeping Bag is a down sleeping bag for staying warm inside your tent. The 20 degree bag is filled with 550-fill ProDown, allowing it to compress down small so it won’t take up as much space in your backpack. ProDown is just like regular down, but has a finish on it that repels water, allowing the down to work better in wet conditions. In addition, the bottom half of the bag has a layer of synthetic insulation (Heatseeker Eco), which is less susceptible to compression and provides additional thermal heat. A less tapered mummy shape allows you to toss around inside so you can get comfortable faster instead of having to count sheep.

FEATURES of The North Face faux furnace 20/-7 Sleeping Bag

  • Comfort-oriented shape has a less tapered cut

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Bag, good price Nice warm bag for those cold nights early and late in the season. I like to be picky in my reviews to help people out. I am a very picky sleeper. I do like all the room in the shoulders so I can roll around. I got the tall because I am 6 foot and it is comfortable. I also got my girlfriend the women's version oppositely handed so they zip together. The only cons I find with it are the zipper and the velcro. The zipper does snag often and the velcro scratches my face once in a while when it is not fully zipped on those warmer nights. It does not pack extremely small but it works. I wish it would come with a mesh bag. You should not store bags in the compression sack. I just bought a pillow case and thats where it spends time in my closet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Sleeping Bag I purchased this bag for backpacking the Appalachian Trail and it is exceptional. The quality of the bag is great and the material is very comfortable. I would recommend buying the 0 degree bag if you plan on camping in sub 20 temperatures but I put a liner in this bag and was warm throughout. This bag packs into the bottom of my Gregory savant 58 and is highly compressible with amazing loft. Highly recommended!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Bag! I took this bag on a week long backpacking trip down into the Canyon and through the Narrows of Zion National Park. My body was not aware of the temperature each night and morning until I was out of my bag. I love it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bag for what it is The highlight of this bag is the comfort and room. Typically, mummy bags are quite tight against the body and make you feel claustrophobic. This bag is a great intro to mummy bags as this one is more roomy. I just used it on the trail to the kolob arch in ZION. Night time temperatures were around freezing probably somewhere between 34-40 degrees. I slept in my clothes, but I stayed warm through the whole night. I am someone who gets cold very easily and I hate feeling chilly. This bag kept me warm, and the roomy toe box was a nice feature. I would recommend this bag to anyone would wants comfort first, weight second. It's a bit heavy, but I'll accept a few extra ounces if it means better comfort.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good bargain Stuff sack is pretty big, but compression is possible down to a much smaller 8" cylinder. Otherwise a great bag for the price and temperature rating.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light & Warm, Great Company & Goose Ethics After searching and comparing, I decided on The North Face Furnace 20/-7. I do a combination of activities in a combination of elements and this bag is a good match. From bicycle touring, trekking and climbing, this bag is good for me. It’s going to work well in each season. I decided on North Face because I’ve had good experience with their products. I bought the regular size and it fits great, I’m 5’9 (175cm). It’s a mummy fit but it’s not super tight where you can’t move. Some bags make you feel like an insane asylum patient in a straitjacket. The material is very soft and the bag puffs up like a good down bag should. I’m not a big fan of synthetic bags unless I know I will be in wet conditions all the time and not under a good tent. This bag is light and the pack is so-so. If North Face could improve one thing it would be a compression sack with straps. From what I hear, North Face cares about the geese they get their down from, so this is a positive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bag for a 1st time using a mummy bag Getting back into hiking and backpacking. My old bag was completely inadequate (not warm enough and didnt pack well). I purchased this bag because of the less tapered mummy style , as have never used a mummy bag before. I was not disappointed. The bag had plenty of room and I have been quite comfortable and warm since using it. I am a taller guy and purchased the tall size. Would definitely recommend this to anybody looking for a entry level bag.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Warm Enough Even In 50F I bought the Furnace Sleeping Bag 10 months ago after considering other options, since my synthetic bag at that time (Aztec) was already 8 years old. The motivation was to buy a new bag that will be warm enough for backpacking over the world (20F=-7 Celsius), light and with good compression ratio. This is why I decided to buy down for the first time. I used it a few times while camping and it wasn't warm enough even when the outer temperature wasn't too low (10-15 degrees Celsius minimum). I also used it 2 months ago, while sleeping in a hut in north Greece and I needed to use 2 blankets in addition since I was too cold. I'm not a "cold sleeper" and the temp outside the hut was 12 degrees Celsius (53.6F) during night! I bought this bag in order to upgrade the sleeping experience, but in the bottom line I'm very disappointed since it's not warm enough as expected and I can't trust it when backpacking. It also doesn't include a compression bag while other bags with this tag price do have (also from North Face). I don't know if it's a defective model that I got or not, but I expected to get better product when selecting North Face down. Now I need to buy a new bag that will be warm as the spec declares.
