Rated 5 out of 5 by from King of the Mountain Used every week(end) for more than two months hiking sixers and fivers of the Southern Appalachians. I have a 20.5" torso, 38" chest, and 32" waist and the size L/XL fits perfectly. Great pack features: 1. Precision fit for comfort by custom bending aluminum stays (frameless packs just are not comfortable despite the light load). This was the main selling point for me. After testing and trying numerous more "ultralight" packs, I finally realized that even the lightest loads need a good frame that is precisely fit to ones back. I have come back to packs with Al stays because I can get that perfect fit. 2. Improved padding in hip belt (which bears most of the load and is really nice now!), shoulder straps, and lumbar area which means the pack is comfortable even without wearing insulating clothing layers (much better than on Prophet series). 3. Pack keeps shape and bears any load due to removable Al stays and HDPE frame sheet. (My base pack weight is typically 15 - 20 pounds depending on weather, and 25 - 35 pounds with consumables depending on duration, and the pack was always comfortable to carry). 4. Streamlined alpine style with classic rucksack top. (I never bring the lid because the top flap is much more convenient as a closure system and the pack always looks equally good when compressed or full). 5. Wand side pockets are accessible when pack is on, even if only large enough for snacks, hats, gloves, etc. 6. Durable materials and construction, will probably last a lifetime. (Plus, I have been in hail storms and heavy persistent rain and never had water get inside because of the durable PU coating on the fabric interior side).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Has Potential There are a lot of features I like with this bag however there are also a lot that I don't. At a glance this is a great bag. However in the field I have noticed some problems. The belt is a major issue. The pocket sown into the belt makes it so you can't tighten the belt as much as there is room for. The Belt ends up slipping and the whole weight of the bag ends up being on my shoulders which sucks. Another issue is that all the straps wiggle loose way too much. I always have to tighten the straps back down and in some cases tie a knot to keep them from coming loose. And lastly it would be nice if there were some more zipper pockets. Besides those issues I like this bag a lot and I use it for all my winter hikes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cobra 60L My wife and I live in Central Oregon and as soon as the weekend hits or after 5 during the week we are hitting the trail. What a great pack, from climbing at Smith Rock to hitting Mt. Bachelor for back country. Love it!! Scott

Rated 5 out of 5 by from TNF & Moosejaw - Thank you! The North Face Cobra 60 is an old school bag with smart gear hauling perks and no fluff! Not for whiners!!! Finally I can burn my Lowe front loader! Cobra is advertised that you can reduce its weight by ditching the internal frame and hip padding. They're so light it's not worth the gain. In a pinch you can use the back board as a snow shovel. Thought I'd never own a top loader, but even with a winter bag, a 3 pound tent, 60m of twin rope plus hardware, 15,000 calories, etc., it's capacity, balance and access are great. I've carried it 30 lbs, 38 lbs and 48 lbs... I think it's rated for 60 lbs or more. What is that - bricks? Cobra 60 rides like a backpack, not like a carry-on. I have no complaints, but it shipped with insufficient specs and care instructions. It's ideal for winter. I've only used it in winter, but I can tell it will be a great year-around pack! NO WHINERS!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from top of the line a must have backpack well worth the price This backpack is a must have if you are in the market for a new pack. Well worth the price when compared to other backpacks. There is nothing like it in its class I use my backpack everyday. I needed a backpack that is rugged, dependable, water resistant, and stylish I would recommend this product for anyone in the market for a serious backpack that is ready for travel and elements Very comfortable no matter how full or empty pack is. No need for a rain cover water resistant I am 5'10 160. Pack is very adjustable Depending how slim you are the straps around the waist may not get to snug on the xl. The large will fit slugger around waist Perfect pack for travel ,backpacking and ruggedness I have no complaints

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Half Dome Hike I have been an outdoor enthusiast for a long time. I am also a Type 1 Diabetic who needs to carry extra supplies(more so than the average person). Anyway, I bought this bag for the trek up Half Dome in Yosemite for 2 nights and there is a lot to love about it, however there are a few cons worth noting. First off, the pack is great; it fit a lot of gear. My tent, all necessary tools, sleepingbag, food for 2 days, rope, first aid kid, medicine the whole 9. That being said, although it holds quite a bit of gear, access to said gear is pretty lame. There arent pockets on the outside other than the very top of the bag, so you have to load all of your gear in the one main pocket and getting to it can be a hastle when on the move. You spend a lot of time packing and unpacking the entire bag to access something during the trip, at least in my experience. Also if you buy this bag be careful with the belt/shoulder clasp straps: if you pull too much or too quick it may break as mine did. I am in the process of returning the pack and exchanging it for the same bag, however. Pros - Good amount of space without overkill - a very nice looking bag(best looking TNF bag) - very comfortable even while holding 35+lbs - outside crampon/icepick slot doubles as water bladder holder - Rope tie on hipbelt for multi-use excursions Cons - Top load only, and only accessible through top of bag - lack of pockets on outside and inside(Top/Crampon/MainBagArea) - sturdiness of straps on chest/hip/shoulder not very great All in all though, very nice bag with some minor kinks to work out. Would recommend

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stellar alpine pack I was dubious when I purchased this 60l pack, but it checked boxes for features I wanted for long alpine trips- high volume, lightweight, durable fabric, top loading, less pockets, easy access, compressible with smaller loads, easy and secure crampon, axe, and helmet stowage, and easy modular subtraction/addition of parts to reduce weight for summits. Pack has exceeded expectations. Just returned from a summit climb on Mt Rainier. Used the pack to carry 45 lbs (and a high volume) of gear up 4,500 ft elev gain from trailhead to base camp. Then removed lid, framesheet (still leaving some minimal padding in the back), and padded hipbelt (leaving webbing belt) and carried as a compressed summit pack for glacier travel and mixed terrain on the upper mountain. TNF has returned to original interest in making REAL climbing gear. After putting pack through its paces in heat, ice, rain, wind on icy and rocky terrain - it still looks new. Surprisingly, ALL of the features, including things I thought gimmicky - metal hook buckles, one-hand open drawstring, bulletproof crampon pouch, ice axe head sleeve and shaft buckles, were indispensable for convenience and function that made using pack a smile-inducing pleasure. Suspension is very comfortable, without being overbearing. Hipbelt and framesheet (with removable stays) transfer weight to hips very well. Large size framesheet fit thin 6'0 frame fine without adjustment (sheet readily bent/customized to fit). Padding is enough to keep things comfy for 45-50 lb loads on a long day. In a pinch, would carry 60 or 70 lbs in pack for shorter periods. Such weight would be bearable - transferred solidly to the hips, but straps would prob pinch with such large loads. Many pro guides have asked about the pack, not a well known model. All surprised to find it is a TNF pack. After climbing with other great alpine packs, including a fantastic, decidedly simpler Montbell alpine pack, this TNF pack is my fave. My go-to for alpine climbs.
