The North Face Boy's Thermoball Triclimate Jacket is a insulation piece and shell piece that combine to create a total of 3 jackets. Not too shabby, getting 3 options for a wide variety of weather. The liner jacket is primed and ready for cooler weather, such as spring and fall, and even mild winter days. It's insulated with PrimaLoft® ThermoBall™ insulation so he stays warm. When winter comes howling in, add the waterproof shell for increased protection from snow, rain and wind. When the days aren't quite so cold, but the elements are still hanging around, feel free to remove the liner for a wet-weather protection.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My nine-year old loves it! My son loves the color and comfort of this jacket. He can wear it several different ways depending on the weather. He is average size and that fits him well. It seems really durable even for an active boy. My only complaint is that the inner jacket does not zip into the outer shell. They are only held together by a couple small tabs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought again Bought XXS for 3 year old son after purchasing XS for my 5 year old. 2 great jackets in one. Don't care that they don't zip together as others have mentioned. Thermoball is used for chilly days and shell is used for wet days. Great buy and kids will get many seasons out of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough, warm, versatile & compact I bought two of these thermoball triclimate coats for my 3 1/2-year-old boy girl twins in Honor Blue and Metallic Silver Heather (lavender lining) sized XXS. I could have gone with a 4T but believe that we may be able to get three years of use out of them by going with a non-toddler size. My kids are about 34 pounds, 38 inches and though the coats are a little big, it is only in the sleeves that this would be a problem. It's not a problem however because of the velcro cinch straps at the wrists. Hence, the jackets look nice on my twins and not ridiculous at all. I wasn't sure if I would like the hassle of having to zip up the liner and then the shell -- four zips total rather than two -- but actually, the zippers are good quality and zip smoothly and I really am enjoying getting to use the coats in various configurations. I bought these prior to going skiing and knew I wanted maximum warmth for my little ones who aren't used to the cold. So both the liners and the waterproof shells were used and they kept my kids dry and warm for hours during moderate snowfall (plus lots of falls into snow LOL). It was ideal to be able to take off shells back at the car and just use the liners the rest of the day in car and hopping around from hotel to restaurant. I wouldn't have bought these coats if I didn't like the cosmetic appeal of these liners as much as I do. The blue for my boy is just beautiful, a deep but bright blue, very attractive. The light purple for my girl is nice too, her favorite color, not too girly, but feminine. And these inserts are the warm part. They are very lightweight and not big puffy jackets, yet seem to do the job nicely. I do have to flip the sleeves up about 1 1/2 inches for their current arm length, but it doesn't detract from the overall look. I like using the liners without the shell. I don't love that the girl's shell is gray, but it has a bit of lavender as well via the zipper and mesh. I can use just shells on warm rainy days. Very happy!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed I purchased this jacket for my 9 year old son. I own several adult thermoball jackets, including three triclimates and I love them so I figured he would feel the same way. It seems like a very nice jacket but the fact the it does not zip-in and that it only attaches at the cuffs presents a major issue for my son. He is constantly fighting with it because it comes apart every time he takes it off. I love products from The North Face and this will not dissuade me from making future purchases but I spent a lot of money on a jacket that my son prefers not to wear. I have purchased several triclimate jackets for my kids over the years and this is the first one that did not zip-in. I wish the product description would have sighted the deviation.
