The North Face Borealis Backpack is a laptop backpack for dragging your gear to and from school. The Borealis has been a stable force in the school bag line for TNF for quite awhile, so when it came to changes, they worked long and hard in the implementation. First and foremost, the backbone was given a boost with the FlexVent™ suspension, injection-molded shoulder straps, and a padded backpanel with spine channel. It aids in comfort whenever you have to get up and carry a heavy load on your back. The padded and fleece lined laptop compartment (in main section) protects from bumps and there is even the same treatment available for your tablet in the front compartment. A small front zip pocket has also been fleece-lined for your phone, just make sure you put it on silent or it'll be captured down in the front office for awhile. For you classic lovers of this pack, no worries, the bungee cord is still there, strapping down rain jacket or hoodie when not in use.

FEATURES of the The North Face Borealis Backpack

  • Padded, fleece-lined laptop sleeve in main compartment protects laptop from bumps and falls
  • Padded,fleece-lined tablet sleeve located in the front compartment for quick access

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Day-to-day Backpack! The look is very appealing to the eye - tough, durable, sporty with a touch of urban fashion and style. This a good commuter backpack with many pockets to store your belongings (ie. Laptop, phone, water bottle, pens, folders, etc.). It fits everything one would need on a daily basis. However, I would not recommend this bag for overnight traveling as the bag is designed well for flat and square items. The shoulder and chest straps have a great fit and wraps nicely on your torso along with the a comfortable padding against your back. Overall this is a great day backpack for commuting, work and/or school.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome Backpack This is my very first North Face backpack and I must say, I'm very impressed with it. I love the design of it and it's super sturdy. I'm the type of person that typically packs a lot (jacket, phone, chargers, laptop, books, ect.) and this backpack seems to be a bit small to me. I also tried to put my 15.4" HP laptop in it and it was a super tight fit. It didn't stick out or anything, it was just really tight in the sleeve that's in the backpack. Other than that, I love the material it's made out of and just the overall backpack in general. I can tell it is well worth the money invested in it. My only cons are the limited amount of space and the laptop sleeve space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An awesome everyday backpack! I can always rely on North Face to create an exceptional backpack for life's adventures! This backpack is my everyday bag for school and my job as a lifeguard, and I have found no faults in it. It is able to carry all of my equipment for work and enough supplies to get me through my day. Also, the cushioned back side allows great comfort for long excursions either to the beach, the mountains, or even for those long days at school. If you're looking for a strong, spacious bag, practical for everyday life, then this bag is perfect for you! North Face even offers different styles for the backpack which I thought was pretty cool!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from They ruined the Borealis I have had 2 older model Borealis in the past which I really liked. My wife has one now. Unfortunately TNF has ruined the backpack with the latest redesign. They have added a very rigid back plate which ruins the pack and they have converted the Borealis into a laptop/school backpack which is worthless for day hiking. Even though TNF states that this is a 28L pack, the same as my previous one, this version does not hold anywhere as much due to the backplate and the narrower sides. This is a real shame as the previous Borealis were great. To make matters worse, the back zipper snags due to the new stiff handle and backplate. Wish I could buy an old design some where.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievably convenient and well made! A must buy Great backpack! The first thing I noticed was how much it helps with back support. It makes me stand up straight in the most comfortable way. I've had it about 2 weeks now and I live out of it. Makes me wonder how I survived before. I have a large water bottle I was concerned about but nope. The sleeves fit perfect around it and any other size. The fleece padding for computer and iPad is quite nice. Oh and the top pocket for my sunglasses it on point, with fleece lining as well. I could go on and on and probably sound like a spokesmen for the company. But the point is I love it. And will definitely buy one for my daughter in the coming years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this Borealis backpack again. I bought this backpack to serve two functions 1. Gym bag 2. Travel pack. It's well suited as a gym bag because it holds all my stuff and is still able to fit in a locker and is comfortable on the occasions that I ride my bike to the gym. As a travel pack, it easily holds my 13-inch MacBook Pro, my iPad, a couple water bottle, and a change of clothes. It's actual even kind of handy to carry two or three bottles of wine to a restaurant. It's not extremely heavy duty as in a tactical sense, but the trade of is that it is light weight. The only thing I wish it had that it doesn't is an exterior hook & loop to add moral patches for personalization.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backpack for all needs This is a great backpack. Ive had if for about two months now and haven't seen any flaws. I was looking on a couple of sites for which back pack to buy. I'm glad I decided to buy the North Face. I've taken this backpack snow skiing in Colorado, it got snow on it sometimes but that didn't cause any problems. Ive had in it 5 degree weather and it didn't cause anything to freeze up. Right now, I use it for college and I have plenty of room for my laptop and all my books. I highly recommend getting this backpack. Even if you do not want to take it hiking or for the outdoors, it would be great just for school or traveling! All in all, great backpack!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Clothes' Killer Overall, this is a great backpack. But the problem with it comes from the back of the backpack. It literally kills my shirts. Because of the mesh behind the backpack, my clothes got worn at the spot where the backpack touches my lower back. I didn't realize that after awhile. Same spot on every shirt. I am not happy about that. And I certainly don't know how to fix it. So please fix it!

what type of nylon is this pack made of?

Asked by: Mike
Hey Mike, This pack is made of Ripstop Nylon Cordura, aka the good stuff. That's what makes this super durable and have that awesome canvas-type look.

The specs say this bag holds a 13 inch laptop, but some of the reviews say it fits a 15 inch. Which is it? I have a 15.6 inch laptop.

Asked by: fmcclure
Hey there, Thanks for the question. The dimensions of the laptop sleeve for this pack are 12” x 13”, so this would unfortunately not fit a 15" laptop.

Do the side pockets fit a large Nalgene bottle comfortably? I've only found information on last year's model and people have said they don't really fit.

Asked by: Baker
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! My shipping manager has like 5 of TNF Borealis Backpacks and he says that his Nalgenes fit good in the side water bottle pockets. I hope this helps!
