The North Face Assault 2 Tent is a single wall tent for high-altitude expeditions. The removable vestibule adds additional room for your gear, but the footprint and gear loft are both optional items sold separately. The single door opens wide for easy entry/exit, with an escape-hatch back door. The dual vents at the top provide a touch of airflow so you don't get stuffy while waiting out the storm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tent Very roomy tent inside, great ventilation. No inside mesh pocket or gear loft. Gear loft is sold separately. Great tent for snow except for rain whereas the rain can get in the tent when you open the door. You will need shed to this tent to block all the snow and rain out of the doorway. Good news is that TNF comes with shed at no charge.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Waterproof I purchased this tent thinking I was so much smarter then my friends with their fancy one single wall tents from other brands. The Assault 2 was lighter, and much cosier. The honeymoon didn't last. After a couple trips where this tent performed well in high winds, and was far more spacious than other tents I was pretty happy. Sure some condensation formed, but it's a single wall tent. What do you expect. I took it on a mountaineering trip. Due to poor weather we stayed in the valley. Rain battered all night. In the morning I awoke to a cool sensation. My whole tent was flooded. There was at least 4 litres of water, if not more in the tent. Careful inspection of the walls revealed the problem. The seams were fine. The walls themselves were dripping. Not from condensation, but from wetting out completely. Assuming that this tent just hadn't been treated in factory with the final membrane, a common enough mistake, I attempted to warranty it. I was informed this tent was for extreme alpinism only, and that I just didn't understand condensation. a) If it's only for extreme alpinism then why bother with mosquito netting, and don't most extreme alpine adventures begin in the valley? b) I'm pretty sure a 140lb male can't create 3- 4 litres of condensation in a 8 hour period. I was hoping this purchase would redeem North Face in my eyes. It only confirmed to me that North Face is not what it used to be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of, if not the best at what it is. It's small, fast, protective, has vents and is light - perfect if you use it for what its meant for and you are good with the single wall trade off. Again, one of the best at what it is, period.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from "LIFETIME GUARANTEE" ???? NOT I would use this product if I absolutely knew it wasn't going to snow or rain.I like it because the tent wall is solid all around (no mesh).Great for helping to keep warm air inside in cold weather. Don't like it because the poles bent after high winds and snow piling up and I was soaked inside after the snow began to melt. The warm tent wall caused the snow to melt and droplets of water formed inside. Little by little everything inside the tent including myself was wet in the cold. I had to wake up at 2 am to pack everything inside my backpack and wait for first light to cancel our trip and go home. I thought it would at least provide better protection from snow. Apparently it's ONLY for 16,000 ft. or higher. Where the snow won't have a chance to become water. I'm not going to experiment and take this tent with me when I do go to Denali or anywhere high though. I'm just not sure it's going to keep me dry. If I have to wait out a storm, and my tent wall is warm from me being inside, and the snow begins to melt..then what.. ???NOPE SORRY, I'll just get something else. I really thought THE NORTH FACE Assault 2 was going to be my favorite tent... light, functional, strong... and advertised as having DryWall. Misleading name to give material that isn't waterproof. But ok, so it's not waterproof... my fault for sure... silly me for thinking DryWall meant waterproof. Here's what really made me decide to really think about buying any more TheNorthFace equipment. I sent the tent for warranty service. My poles bent after a strong wind storm. Customer service suggested I bring the tent to an official TheNorthFace store to ship it for free, and it would be faster than bringing it to a distribution store. Ok, I drive the extra 50 miles and bring it to East Hartford, CT Westfield shopping center. There it sits for almost 3 weeks. Finally get a call from warranty after it ships, they state no defects found. I ask if I can buy the poles, they say NO, and ship back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not good in rain at all The Assault 2 has no rain fly and was extremely leaky in a 1" rainfall (never a downpour but steady over 24 hours or so). How does one design a tent these days with no rain fly? There were pools of water everywhere, so it's definitely not a four-season tent. Not even a one season if you're expecting to stay dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect tent for mountaineering. My first impression with the tent is the vestibule that no other tents come with it. Secondly, the body tent is roomy inside with many ample tabs to hang just about anything. I have bought gear loft, of course. I'm a big fan of one door entry to eliminate the weight of the tent. I love the escape-hatch and all opened vents to pressurize evenly inside/outside of the tent to keep the tent strong. I have no issue with condensation inside my tent if you open the vents properly. Vestibule really comes handy to keep the snow/rain out the main door entry and to store things outside. I must stay that I like the zipper glows at night. This tent keeps me warm all night. I hope this tent will last me a lifetime which I am very sure of its quality.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from One Season Tent I recently took this tent on a mountaineering trip. First the good. This tent is fairly strait forward to set up. The poles are not bendy at first and almost refuse to go into the gromets. After a few uses it works fine. Once up and guyed this tent is bombproof. On a windy ridge it made for welcome shelter. Very handy. The weight of this tent is fantastic, the While camping down low it started to rain, light to moderate. While sleeping I kept feeling drips, but was too tired and groggy to inspect further. When I awoke in the morning my tent floor was 90% flooded. Upon careful inspection it turns out the material was just not waterproof. Moisture was seeping directly through the walls. The only part of the tent where moisture wasn't coming through was the hole I'd patched up with Tenacious tape from an unfortunate ice axe accident. Looking back through the description they never actually mention the material being explicitly waterproof. I think the idea with the tent is that it's water resistant, and can handle snow and the like. I guess this is my fault for assuming that a four season tent could handle all weather in four seasons?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No! Perfect tent! Except the fabric on the canopy will not take a rain squall.
