Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal lightweight, versatile pack for day hikes I realized I was in need of a versatile pack for day hikes recently, and the Angstrom 28 has worked out perfectly. This is a very lightweight pack, constructed largely of a durable nylon material that has a lot of stretch to it (which is a huge help for packing an extra jacket/etc in the outside pocket). Some other great features: it has a hip belt with side zips/stash pockets (ideal for keeping a quick snack/sunscreen/chapstick at the ready), a rain cover that is stowed in the bottom of the pack (genius), plus this pack is hydration ready (there is an internal sleeve to accommodate this, as well as a velcro hook and opening). Another feature I love is that the hip belt can be folded away inside the back of the pack when not in use (this really comes in handy when going through airports and not actually needing weight distributed to your hips while hiking). The only part of the pack I would like to see improved is to have slightly more stretch to allow for stowing 32 oz. water bottles in the side pockets (the standard 24 oz. bottles fit fine) - a very minor deal however. Overall, I would highly recommend this pack for any day hike excursions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A bag ready for anything I have searched and searched for an ideal bag that would serve multiple purposes. Looked at a ALL of TNF day packs but they were all missing something that kept them from being a "great" bag. Seriously, I would go into the store every time I was at the mall to look for a perfect day pack. It took me a year before I found this one (I'm incredibly picky and frugal) As soon as I laid eyes on this bag I knew it was the one. First off, the bag just looks like it's in a class way above what it is priced for. Great zippers with large loops to grab, hip belts that stow away, height adjustable sternum strap, tightening hiking pole loop, hidden rain cover, and multiple external pouches and a drawstring for quick stow items. I like that it's a hiking bag with zippered compartments instead of a lid. Therefore taking it else where seems more appropriate. The 28 Liter size is enough to accommodate anything you'd need on a day trip or quick overnight trip. I have yet to hike with the bag but for my travels it has served me well thus far. I would say it is definitely a minimalists bag for overnight trips (I fit a change of street clothes, workout clothes, book, toothbrush, deodorant, water bottle, laptop, and it's about full). I am a frequent runner so pretty much anywhere I go I need 2 pairs of shoes. The external drawstring on the bag makes securing my shoes to the outside of the bag very convenient and saves lots of space inside (this feature is a huge reason I bought the bag). The stretchable open pocket under this drawstring is extremely nice for stashing something you may want to grab out quick such as a light jacket. The draw string and external stretching pouch make the storage capacity of the bag seem larger than 28 liter. The two stretchable water bottle pockets on the side will expand quite well. I can fit my large Nalgene water bottle in them snugly. The storable hip belt really makes this bag versatile. I use this bag for commuting to my classes and sometimes have a heavy load to carry around. I also commute by bike on some occasion and the belts really make all the difference in securing down a bag for a more comfortable ride. I like stashing the belts when I'm inside and have no need for them. The belt has a small pocket on each side, one mesh and the other covered in the same material as the bag. Another key feature is a tightening loop where you store hiking poles when not in use. It keeps them nice and secure and has also served me well for other purposes when not hiking. The sternum straps can be moved up or down to make for a better fit across the chest. I'm sure females would find this feature a must. My only issue; The large pocket that will contain your water bladder and majority of your stuff is fine. The other compartment has a common inner pocket setup for cell phones, cameras, wallets, etc. I am not a fan of the layout of this. The mesh pockets for stowing your phone and camera are on the small side. I don't think many people would really have a problem with this so don't let it deter from purchasing this awesome bag. But while I use this bag as a commuting bag it would have been nice for a pen holding pocket or two and maybe a few more compartmented pockets for this inner setup. This bag really has it all and can serve you in many ways. Hands down get this bag over all else if you are looking for something you can bring to work or school as well as out on a hike, camping trip, or just traveling.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A traveler's best friend :) The bag itself is water repellent and it doesn't mind the snow as well, but if you wanna brave the weather for prolonged periods of time then better put the rain cover on. The bag also has Ripstop nylon so as far as durability, I think it'll never break down on its own unless you're Tarzan. I've had the black one as a gift for 6 mos and it's still looking mint.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Zippers make the bag I have been searching over 2 years for the perfect replacement for my original NF Recon backpack that recently tore. The Angstrom 28 is very sleek and stylish, but it lacked some testing for the zipper functionality. Everytime I use the zipper it gets stuck on the very thin nylon material of the bag and I need to unzip it and pull the fabric straight and rezip. Seems trivial in a review, but just think about the annoyance of constantly needing to straighten every 6-10 inches of fabric in order to zip your bag up without it catching on the bag material. I've lost valuable seconds of my life repeatedly throughout the day trying to zip this thing up, and now I have nightmares about zippers. Don't buy this bag.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Liked it so much I bought another one. I originally had this pack for a couple of years but in the smaller 20L size. But sadly on my recent hiking trip in Washington State it was stolen out of my rental car! I guess somebody else liked it as much as I did. I did some shopping around and was really excited when I came across my old favorite pack again but in a bigger size. I ordered it, it arrived when they said it would, and it is just as they described. It's lightweight, it's comfortable, it has tons of pockets and storage space, and it's perfect for my day hikes or camping trips. The only issue that I have with it is that the zipper snags which is the same, and only, issue that I had with my last pack as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Bag! Rain Cover Almost Useless. The bag itself is great! Lightweight, useable capacity, good looking. They advertise it as having an "integrated rain cover" which is true that it fits in a very nicely designed pocket on the bottom of the bag, but unless you have the bag laying down on something, the rain fly doesn't stay on the bag. You cannot wear the bag and have the rain fly on because there is not lip at the top of the bag for the rain fly to catch onto, it just slides right off. Nice thought to add it, but it is essentially useless if you are wearing the bag. Great bag nonetheless!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be more comfortable. I use it for college. I used to drive to school, but now I commute via bus, and with this change in transportation mode I have now realized that I frequently have to decide which stuff I want to bring to school and which stuff I have to leave at home. I can't fit my books + a healthy lunch into this one bag without everything being super crammed in there. It barely fits all my books. And I definitely can't bring workout clothes unless I pack them into a separate bag. I have used it for 2+ years and it is, without-a-doubt, durable. In the image that I attached, you can see the lower part of the bag that sits against/rubs against my lower back. The fabric is wearing and revealing the foam pad underneath. This is the only wear on the bag after 5 day/week, year-round use for 2+ years. I can confirm that sometimes the zipper gets stuck, but not as often as the other reviewer. The hidden rain cover is a nice touch, which definitely comes in handy in Seattle. If you don't have a lot of stuff to carry/ have the ability to leave some stuff in your car, then this is a good bag. It would be a great bag, but the shoulder straps are really thin and they dig into your shoulders when you're carrying a typical college load worth of books and laptop (20+ pounds). If you have a lot to carry, get a bigger bag.
