Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely warm, even in a Russian winter I am one of those perpetually cold types who shiver when temps drop below 75, so I debated for a long time on whether to go with this jacket, or a Canada Goose, for a trip to Russia and Mongolia. In the dead of winter. Temps dipped to -27 degrees Fahrenheit, and despite spending most of my days outside, this jacket kept me toasty, even sweaty if I was very active. The construction is wonderful, and the pockets are well placed, zippered, non-zippered for your hands/easier access, and upper chest to keep your hands closer to your core. I especially liked the inside breast pocket, electronics die fast when exposed to freezing temperatures so this was a phone saver and a place to stash money/passport/boarding tickets. The zipper is very durable and large, with the option to zip upwards to give your legs more room. There are 2 side adjusters as well, helpful to sinch the waist tighter for more shape/less air flow. The hood is wonderfully big, with enough room to add a hat for extra warmth. The arms are well insulated; I saw complaints on other parkas for skimping on this area, but this parka has you evenly covered, with ample down, from head to knees. The only thing I would have changed is the fur ruff. It is a wonderful windbreak, and very warm, but I wish that it was longer and enveloped the hood further down towards the neck. I am 5 ft 7, 115 lbs and a small fit well with room underneath for layers (though you don't need many!) As an added bonus, whenever I got chilly in draftier hotels/train rides, I could use this as a little comforter and throw it over the bed for a better nights sleep. All in all, worth every cent spent, and I am confident this parka will last me a lifetime.

Hiya Ally, thanks for your question! This parka weighs 5 pounds (size large), which is pretty heavy but most people find that the warmth is worth the weight. (See what I did there!) Hope this helps!

What are the care instructions for this parka?

Asked by: himil
Thanks for the question! This Parka can be machine washed in cold water on gentle. Tumble dry on low. I always toss in a couple clean tennis balls when drying to help break up wet clumps of the down. Do not bleach, use fabric softener, or dry clean. Always remove the fur from the hood prior to washing. Spot clean the fur only if necessary. Hope this information helps!

Is this material comparable to the Carly Conquest Parka?  I had to return that because every piece of lint or dog hair stuck to it unlike my other shinny down coats.

Asked by: Laurie
Hiya, thanks for your question! Sorry to hear about the hassle with the Carly Conquest Parka. You shouldn't have that problem with the Joan of Arctic Parka. The shell is made with 100% nylon, while the Carly Conquest Parka has a 59% cotton and 41% nylon shell. Hope this helps!

What is so special about this coat how warm is it?

Asked by: Elia
Hiya Elia, thanks for your question! This parka has very high quality goose down insulation (premium 800-fill power). It traps a lot of warmth without feeling heavy. It has leather details and coyote fur trim on the hood. The waterproof nylon shell protects from winter weather elements, like wind and snow. Hope this helps!
