DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Very Best Plain and simple, it's my favorite jacket. I use this jacket throughout late fall, winter and early spring. On really cold days, I use this jacket with a good polyester or wool base layer. The combination is perfect. No need for those bulky winter coats if you have this beauty. The jacket is light and stores away very well. I like the mix of wool and polyester and the insulation is in the right places. The stretchy wool fabric along the sleeves and sides make for a perfect fit, not snug and not loose. My absolute favorite.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This year's model may have resolved one of the problems I bought the Double Corbet jacket a little over a year ago, when the sleeves were completely of stretchy (but tight!) wool, not partly the insulation now shown in the description. It was very difficult to slip on the jacket over any kind of base layer due to these "grabby" sleeves. Perhaps this year's model has fixed that problem. The other two negatives I found with the jacket were its price (too high for a jacket that's not really great in cold weather) and the lack of water repellancy. I sprayed on several layers of Tectron to boost the DWR that was supposedly already applied at the factory. Smartwool is great at producting socks and some other items (good cap!), but it sems to be still feeling its way when it comes to jackets. Buy with caution and check the fit when your jacket arrives; return it if it's too small or hard to put on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pretty much exactly what I needed Long story short, I needed a new coat; old ones were getting worn and a size too big these days. I got this one because it seemed like the warmest option, and I was planning on using it as an all around coat, both for activities and for everyday warmth when out and about. I can't speak much to the activity side of things, because it's a very warm coat and probably too warm for my running needs (I'm usually good in two long sleeve shirts in the 20s, provided I'm running at the time). But for general wear, I love that it's light and compact, looks stylish, and keeps me warm. I would like to note that the material is different, and thinner, in the sides of the torso and the inside of the sleeves. This wasn't apparent to me from either the description or the photos. If you look at a non-black photo of the coat, you'll see the black sides I'm talking about. From the photos, I just assumed this was a stylistic choice. The "features" mention that "Sides of jacket and inside of sleeves use stretchy knit fabric for ease of movement" but don't indicate that that's the ENTIRETY of the sides. The stretchy knit fabric in question is rather thin and absolutely not insulated like the rest of the coat. I agree that it moves well (although, again, I haven't really tested this in sports yet), and I would suspect that it would vent well making it super for cold weather activity. However, I've worn it cycling, and in that arms-out-front position, I found the lack of insulation made me colder that I would have expected. As a general purpose coat, too, I find it a touch less warming than if it had insulation all around. Having said that, I mainly wish to draw attention to this design. I'm not necessarily bashing it, I think it's a fabulous jacket, but if you're considering this coat, just be aware that it's not insulated down the sides or inside the arms. I may have made a different choice had I been aware of this, but quite honestly, I'm happy with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Made and Very Warm First. One reviewer stated that this jacket has a hood. It does not. The jacket has a mock style collar which I really like. There's well placed insulation throughout the jacket. I purchased the black color and it looks great. Two hand warmer pockets with zipper closures. Left side vertical zipper chest pocket. There are two deep inside pockets left and right side. The combination fabrics are well placed for warmth and functionality. The jacket has a wind flap inside the full zip front. A really great addition is the polyester stretch fabric that runs down both sides of the jacket from armpit to bottom hem. It provides great range of motion. For size comparison, I am six feet four inches tall, 215 pounds, 40 inch waist. I wear a 37 inch sleeve garment. Size XXL fits me perfectly. It's a great jacket and I'm happy with my purchase (even though it was expensive). A well thought out design that works. I love SmartWool stuff.
