DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased 1st Iteration Years Ago And I still think it is the ultimate lightweight jacket. Fit is perfect; I'm a 44 chest with 36" sleeve, and the XL is perfect. Took it on an extended trip to China where laundry was rarely available; no stink, period. When I did finally find a laundry, the wool dries quickly (no driers in China!). Better than down due to the moisture resistant nature of wool. Worn with a poly base layer, it's good until it gets really cold, then a shell layer extends the temperature range. For frigid, a light insulated shell took me down to below zero. After several years of major use, it's still got a great shape, zippers fine, no loose threads, etc. Can't recommend it enough. Expensive, but it holds up. Worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it, would make a few tweaks. First off, SW has no peers when it comes to form and function. I own a previous version of this jacket, so I will make the comparisons to it. They've replaced the front zipper on this year's model to a cheaper plastic version, wish they would have stuck with what they had. But they have added zippers to the pockets, which is a great upgrade! I understand that the sleeves should be a longer than a normal jacket, because of the thumb holes. But this year's jacket has WAY longer sleeves, by maybe an inch or so. Liked the length on the previous models better. Seems like the chest pocket is a tad smaller, but still plenty big enough for your phone or wallet. I wish they would add some sort of ventilation to it, as it collects moisture during work outs. Some new colors to choose from, but as with all Smartwool stuff, not nearly enough brighter options imo. Don't get me wrong, I love all the Earth tones they produce, but have some more colors that pop in the future please. This is my go to jacket on colder, but not super cold days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite.Jacket.EVER. When I first got this jacket I used it for city use, dinners, art galleries and I actually got away with wearing it to an upscale nightclub once. lol I had it for a while I started using it out on adventures and that's when this item really began to shine. It is the perfect mix of form version function. This jacket adapts to you to the point of this jacket becomes you, the heat regulating properties need to be felt to be believed. The only thing I would change about this jacket is having a stealthy zip away hood! So so close to being the perfect jacket but still ranks as my favorite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredibly well designed. Comfortable. Attractive. It looks good. It feels good. It has great range of motion. As someone with a bit of a gut, I like it because the stretchy stuff on the sides makes it form-fitting without being uncomfortably tight (whereas a lot of similar coats are just really sloppy and baggy). It's very warm - the only thing I didn't fully consider before I bought it was the extent of the stretch fabric on the sides. It runs from hip to wrist, and does nothing to protect agains the wind, so just be aware of that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific mid-layer! This is the 2nd Smartwool Jacket I've purchased, the first is showing it's age after 5 years of skiing and hiking. The nylon face is effective blocking wind when skiing, the insulation beneath is warm and doesn't seem to mind a little moisture. I'm 6'1" and almost always have an issue with sleeves that are too short - not with this piece. The stretchy weave of the fabric keeps it close to the body for max warmth. One improvement is the zippered pockets - the old design had open hand warmer pockets, deep enough that things didn't tend to fall out but I like the zippers for added security. A great piece at a great Mountain Steals price!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If the jacket fits, wear it. This is an excellent jacket. It's lightweight and fits great while still leaving room for additional layers underneath if necessary. It's great in cold weather and can still be worn in moderate temperatures if desired.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is my best smartwool purchase to date I love smarwool products. I started with socks many years ago and in recent years started purchasing layers for under ski wear. It look oks great, is comfortable and most importantly really works. This jacket I purchased is the closest to outerwear I have purchased. I absolutely love it. It looks awesome and really keeps me warm.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent but condensation issues in chest pocket I bought this in hopes of it doubling up as a mid layer for snowboarding under a shell and an outside layer for winter running. The jacket is very comfortable and well made, however the front chest pocket builds up huge amount of condensation if you do any high intensity workouts - ie I did 4 x 8 minutes on a track in 20 degree weather and my phone was soaked to the point I was worried of water damage. I'll have to try wrapping my phone in a paper towel or something else as the front pocket does not breathe well at all. I haven't tried it on the mountain yet, but seems like it should work well. I have the vest version as well and the same issue with the pocket occurs there as well.
