The Sea to Summit Comfort Plus Insulated Mat is an insulated air mattress for toasty warm shut-eye on your backpacking adventures. The double layer air cells have been filled with Thermolite® insulation, only adding to the reasons the mat is able to boast an R-value of 5 for your sleeping comfort. The multi-functional valve allows you to quickly inflate and deflate, as well as fine tune the mat until you get the right amount of cushion between the cold, hard ground and your body. Rocky ground? No problem, as you're resting upon your very own throne of air while a hidden layer of Exkin® Platinum non-woven fabric reflects your body heat back at you.

FEATURES of the Sea to Summit Comfort Plus Insulated Mat

  • Exkin Platinum fabric and Thermolite insulation are combined to prevent radiant and convective heat loss
  • Multi-function valve for easy inflation, deflation and fine tuning of air pressure
  • Dual layer design ensures a level of built-in redundancy; if you do end up with a puncture in one layer of the mattress, the other layer remains fully functional
  • 40D rip-stop nylon face fabric offers the right balance between weight and durability
  • Comes with a quality stuff sack, a repair kit containing six self adhesive patches for repairing punctures in the field, and a spare silicone one-way valve flap
  • TPU lamination
  • Extended storage instructions: mat should be laid flat, folded as few times as possible with valve open

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just buy it. Highly recommend this pad. It's heavier than an ultra-light pad, but worth carrying a few extra ounces. It's actually two layers; you inflate it from the front and the back. Why does this matter? Primarily because you can dial in your comfort setting. It's like a backcountry sleep number bed. You can leave the bottom layer firm, and make the top layer softer so you can sink in a little. Another reason the two layer design can be helpful is if the pad somehow gets punctured. You will be able to finish your trip since you still have one inflatable functional side. Another thing we love about the pad is that it's rectangular. We tend to sleep on our sides and struggle with the mummy style shapes. With this one being rectangular, it's extremely comfortable. It also has a unique design that keeps air from transferring around the pad. Ever been on a pad where your elbow pushes into it and the air inside pushes down into the bottom raising your feet? This one does not have that problem. Maybe we'll try to put a wine glass on it and drop a bowling bowl to see the weight transfer. Remember those old commercials? What else is awesome about this pad? Well glad you asked. It deflates in a flash based on the valve system. There are two flaps; use one for inflate (traps the air from coming back out while inflating); and the other for deflate (super quick). Your hiking friends will ask how you got packed up so fast. It fits into it's storage bag easily, you don't have to fight with it. So after all this, is it worth a few extra ounces? Absolutely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very comfortable I LOVE Moosejaw! The price was impressive and the shipping time was terrific. The pad is I think the best out there. I have already referred a customer your way for the same pad. Very comfortable and packs down nicely. I am looking forward to checking it out in some chilly winter camping in the Cascades and Eastern Oregon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super comfortable I bought this a month ago, been camping a couple times and I love it. Not the lightest pad out there, but definitely one of the most comfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very comfortable I tested all the different pads. This one just felt different in a good way. It feels good on the back and on the side. It isnt noisy. It weighs more but for me an extra pound is worth a good night sleep.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Whole Package I stumbled upon this pad while on the lookout for a more comfortable sleeping system while backpacking. It has since proven itself in a whole range of conditions. Its very comfortable and has kept me insulated from the cold, all while remaining light enough to secure its spot as a must-have on any trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fairly light weight yet durable and Comfortable Not the absolute lightest pad on the market but it's insulated, more durable than a 1 pound pad and does not sound like you are crunching potato chips every time you roll over.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best sleeping pad ever I had this in the car from a recent camping trip, and chose this over sleeping on the guest bed at my parents house. I love it! Not ultralight, but I will sacrifice for this comfort!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality Sleeping Pad - Love the dual chambers High quality sleeping pad! I have not tested the insulating features yet but the weight vs R-value makes for a balanced compromise. NOTE: The valve is very similar to Exped valves so your Schnozzel will work as a pump sack! PROS: - My favorite feature is the dual chambers for inflation. Think of the pad like a hamburger bun - the separation between top/bottom halves is the same orientation as the pad's 2 air chambers. This is nice for 2 reasons: First is durability. If a hole develops in the pad while you're sleeping, you still have a second chamber to keep you off the ground until you can repair it later. Second is for customization of firmness. Fill both chambers relatively full, then close the valve on the bottom while leaving the top open. You can now press the orange seal in while laying on the pad to modulate how soft/firm the pad is. Cool feature! - This pad appears to be very tough, though I haven't tested this myself. The material feels very durable. - Relatively quiet. The outer material isn't the quietest but it doesn't have the obnoxious crinkling sound from insulation like some of the lighter, other-brand pads. CONS: - The pad is not the lightest option on the market. It is still very light and packable though. - Personally, I find lengthwise baffles (Exped) to be a lot more comfortable.

How do these behave in a hammock?

Asked by: Charlie
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! While you can use an insulated mat in a hammock, it's best if you don't fully inflate it. It also helps if it's somewhat wide (> 20 inches) to help prevent it from popping out from under you. Some prefer to use just an underquilt and no pad. It's all based on personal preference, budget and includes some trial & error. Hope this helps you out.
