DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Rain Coat!! I needed a solid rain jacket to get through winter in the PNW. I found the Torrentshell City Coat in Rivermouth/Ink Black here on Moosejaw. It fits me perfectly, keeps the rain out, has great pockets, is a super cool pattern, and is long enough to keep my pants dry! Although the coat itself is pretty thin, the inner material is warm and the outer layer keeps me very dry. I was having trouble finding the coat in the right size, and Moosejaw saved the day! Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lightweight and just the right length I have been looking for a raincoat that is waterproof and knee length for a while now. I am very happy with the Moosejaw. It weighs practically nothing. The hood is adjustable too so I can still see with it up. It looks nice and I can wear it for appointments with my clients and still look professional.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fit is horrible (for me) I am short (5'1) and curvy (42-31-43) and am used to having fit issues (especially with outdoor/activewear brands). However, it's like they didn't even bother trying with this coat. It was about 6" too wide in the shoulders with a lot of bunch up material around the armpits), fit around my bust, was too wide in the waist by 4", and fit around my hips, but was too snug to fit another layer underneath. The material was also very shiny and noisy (unlike my Marmot coat). The shoulders were the worst part, they cut into my arms when bending over to tie my boots, not because I have fat arms (I don't), but because of the badly shaped armscye. My old coat which is a size too small now doesn't even do that. I wish it had full lining around the neck too like my old Marmot, but there's only a small strip of soft fabric behind the zipper at the neckline.

Is the fit spacious enough to layer this coat over a wool peacoat?

Asked by: martitab
Hiya, thanks for your question! This jacket is designed to accommodate layers underneath, however, a wool peacoat is too thick. I tried this jacket on with my Nau Women's Cocoon Down Trench and it just fit. I wouldn't wear it would anything thicker. Hope this helps!

does this have a temperature rating- such as: good to 40 degrees? is there a liner? how do the sizes run ?

Asked by: Sharon
Thanks for reaching out to us. This jacket does not have a temperature rating and would not be best used in 40 degree weather. The reason for this is because it has no insulation and does not have a liner. With Patagonia this item will run smaller than true to size. We hope this helps.
