Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Warm, ergonomic, leaks feathers badly I have had this product for about 3 months and initially loved it. It is very warm, and I have never been cold in this jacket. The pockets are very convenient for items such as lip balm, tissues, gum and even an ipod. The fleece pockets are great if not wearing gloves. My main problem with this jacket is that it leaks a lot of feathers. If wearing anything dark or something such as a sweater or sweatshirt underneath it, it will be covered with feathers and take some time with a lint brush to clean.,,,,I would not recommend this jacket based on the issue with the feathers coming out. That is how bad it is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very warm... however sizing was an issue. Overall this jacket is very solid. Great warmth and stylish. However, I needed to return the jacket due to size issues. I am a 5'9'', 160 pounds and the medium didn't fit. The arms were too long. But the other features were nice, such as the removable hood and fleece lined pockets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Super warm, extra urban appeal I am 6'2 and some change about 185 and initially purchased this jacket in a L, the fit was a little tight in the neck and the sleeves were just a tad short so I bumped myself up to an XL, this took care of those two issues but I do find myself swimming in the jacket on occasion. Other than my problem being between sizes, I am impressed with the insulation and haven't had any problems losing down on the inside yet. I have had numerous compliments from my buddies moms about the styling. This thing is a lady killer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks and Feels Fantastic!! Finally a coat that keeps you plenty warm while at the same time flexible enough to wear while driving. I have never been able to wear a winter coat in a car. I take it off when I get in the car and freeze until the car warms up. Not the case with this coat, plenty of room even zipped up. Cold, snow, rain or wind, it keeps me warm and dry. I have several Patagonia products from Moosejaw and have been very pleased with the quality of all of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Town Jacket, Runs Big! I bought this jacket a few weeks ago. I really like the look and quality of it and had the opportunity to test it out recently in the snow sledding with my kids. Great - very warm and water proof, but as others have said without pit zips or other ways to dump heat. I am not sure I would recommend this as a ski jacket, but for around town it's awesome. One thing I will note is that it runs big. I am a very reliable medium and initially ordered that size. The M fit me like a double-breasted jacket. I returned it for a small and am very glad I did. Fits great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect down jacket for town and the outdoors This jacket is excellent - I've been looking for something just like this for the past years to replace an aging jacket. This year's Wanaka has both the form and function that I wanted making it my first item from Patagonia and my new go to winter jacket. It is a warm and very tough jacket. The down is neatly quilted into a grid of well-packed, individual puffy squares that keep the down evenly distributed. The arms are well and evenly stuffed. The wrists include interior knit cuffs to seal out the cold - an important feature. The end of the cuffs are adjustable with buttons which I prefer over velcro. The exterior fabric is thick and very tough - suitable for mountain conditions if your travels take you there. There is a double front storm flap which can be sealed via buttons - the buttons are very smooth to pop in and out. The buttons on the neck area of the storm flap are very well thought out - you've got 3 in close proximity to keep the flap shaped and flat for however high you zip up the neck. On the neck, there is an interior flap lined with fleece which folds over your chin if you zip the neck all the way up or folds back to the garment if you leave the collar unzipped. The zipper can catch on the base of this flap - just pull slightly forward when zipping over that region to avoid that. The neck is lined with a soft fleece and is also well stuffed with feathers. The hood is also insulated and includes a bungee drawstring on top as well as the typical two on each side to adjust the brim. The brim drawstrings use two fleece formed catchers to hold the tightened string for whenever you have the hood tightly cinched. This might be ridiculous to say but I like the shape of the hood a lot - some jacket hoods look very weird and unflattering. It's detachable if you don't want it on. The pockets are great. The hand pockets are concealed with two flaps so you can leave them unzipped if you're pulling your hands in and out during stormy conditions. It also gives the jacket a nicer appearance. The hand pockets are lined on the back of hand face with a fleece - it would be a bonus if both sides were lined with fleece but it's fine as is - the interior side is warm and hands are making most contact with the other side. The zipper on the hand pockets is fine toothed and smooth so I have no problem with contact - they really don't scratch at all. One chest pocket is a buttoned flap pocket which includes two pen sleeves- the other is vertically zippered and deep - you can stick any sized smart phone in it. The layout of the pockets is great and includes a good mix of types that looks good - I hate it when jackets have 4 of the flap pockets in all corners or covering the hand pockets - blegh! There is also an interior chest pocket. All seams are double and triple stitched - very well constructed and will last many seasons. Sizing is spot on with my regular medium size - it will allow for layering underneath. The arms are nice and long and the articulated joints are perfect - lift your arms up and the sleeves stay at your wrists without pulling the garment up from your waist at all. One thing - a little pet peeve of mine - the waist is wider than a usual medium but it's not actually a problem because of the drawstrings which, by the way, when tightened have an interior passage alongside the zipper for the excess to slide into. Good length - I'm 5'10" and the medium covers about 1/4 of my thigh. I'm excited to have found this jacket - it's everything a down jacket should be - warm, tough, well-pocketed, storm ready, waterproof, looks great and hides the down pockets. I got this in the forge grey which is a fantastic dark grey color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Built The Padagonia Wanaka is built better than any other jacket I have ever owned. It feels like it would take a lot to damage the exterior. The down they use is "traceable", meaning the the birds are humanly raised and never live plucked. It looks great and should keep you warm to a few degrees below freezing. After that I would layer with some type of additional liner. I use the Patagonia Down Sweater. Its like a warm hug.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for cold and wet days/nights I've had this for a few weeks and it is a great jacket for cold, wet days. I've yet to wear it in any snow, but next month it will be tested. It fits true to size and the cut is perfect. It has a great weight to it and is built to last. Only improvement I would suggest would be greater insulation in hand pocket and/or maybe make them more accessible. In no way is that critique a deal breaker for me. The gray color is great!

I believe I saw this jacket in a store and the hood was not detachable. Was that maybe an older model? Is the detachable hood now only on the updated version of this jacket?

Asked by: Evan
Heyo, Evan! Thanks for asking such a rad question. The detachable hood is in every Patagonia Men's Wanaka jacket but because it is a waterproof coat, the zipper is hidden. Hope this helps!

My husband is 6 feet tall and about 195 pounds with broad shoulders and typically wears a large, which would be fitted. Is the cut more slim? If so I will choose an XL.

Asked by: Leejen10
Hiya Leejen10, thanks for your question! This jacket has a regular fit so it will not be cut slim. He should be fine with his normal size. By the way, there is a link to a helpful size chart located in the lower right corner of the drop down size menu. Hope this helps!

Is there any feedback on the quality after years of use? Also, any confirmation on the feathers coming out? Thanks!

Asked by: PatM
Hiya PatM, thanks for your question! Feathers popping out of a down jacket is a natural occurrence, especially as it ages. The more the jacket is worn, the more feathers compress and flatten making them easier to fit through the weave. Never pull the feathers out, this just makes the holes larger. Instead, push them back in or pull them toward the inside of the jacket. If you fluff your feathers they will fatten up and have a more difficult time fitting through the fabric. (You can put your jacket into the dryer and run the no-heat fluff cycle for about 15 minutes.) Keep in mind that proper care of the jacket will result in many years of quality use. Hope this helps!

Hi, I'm very much considering buying this jacket but am concerned as to the hand pocket size. I keep reading complaints that they are too small. Can I get the dimensions on those pockets. I often use binoculars and need decent sized pockets for gloves.

Asked by: Birdman
Hiya Birdman, thanks for your question! My office mate tried on this jacket in a size large and he doesn't think the pockets are very big either. If fact, he commented that an adult onesie has bigger pockets than this jacket! (It's "wear your pajamas to work" day.) You might be able to fit a glove in each pocket but the binoculars probably wouldn't fit. Hope this helps!
