DWR tech

Durable Water Repellant
DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a coating that is applied to fabrics which makes them water-resistant, or hydrophobic. A DWR finish doesn't interfere with breathability, which makes it perfect for adverse conditions in the backcountry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing jacket I bought this a few weeks ago for my husband. He absolutely love it. Great for MN winters and we have had a real cold one this year! Very warm and not too big, great for getting out and going.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great winter coat! I bought this for my husband to fight the cold winters in Michigan. He said it fits great and is super warm. He has already received several compliments and has only had it for a week.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable and warm I bought this because my son absconded with my Patagonia puffy down jacket. I'm about 6' tall and weigh 235 lbs. and this jacket fits me very well. My wife thinks it looks an upscale cotton duck canvas work jacket, which is ok with me. It definitely feels like it will be durable for many years to come. I use it when the high for the day will remain below freezing. If there is a downside it is that there is no insulation on the outside of the pockets to keep hands extra toasty, but then from an appearance perspective it is not so puffy around the midriff. Its not too heavy or bulky and it has good movement in the shoulders. Glad I bought it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I'm realllly liking this! I'll start with the good/great. It's warm. It's water resistant. It's an awesome color/texture (gray). It's got an insulated hood and cuffs inside the sleeves. It's Patagonia, which makes me feel good about my purchase. That's not just because of the warranty and quality, but also because I believe in their mission. As for the not so's big on me. I wear a small in every top covering item that I have from Patagonia. T-shirts, capilenes, a sweatshirt (actually a tad short on me), better sweaters, and a few other coats. For some reason, this is a little big for me. Now, it's filled with down so it's going to be a little bulkier...but regardless, it's just a little big. The sleeves are half an inch too long, it could be tighter all over, too. I don't mind it too much, the biggest issue I have is that the collar winds up laying almost flat. With or without the hood, it just seems to be too heavy to stand up, unless it's zipped all or MOST of the way. I like the look and the functionality of something that stands up a little bit to protect from the cold/wind. I still love the coat, but just a couple of things that could be improved to make this the best on the market (in my opinion!)!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great light weight medium warmth coat I bought this a bit ago and have worn it daily for a job that requires me to stand outside day and night in Wyoming and North Dakota. So far, it's worked well down to ten degrees. With the discount, go ahead and buy it. You won't regret it.

I believe I saw this jacket in a store and the hood was not detachable. Was that maybe an older model? Is the detachable hood now only on the updated version of this jacket?

Asked by: Evan
Heyo, Evan! Thanks for asking such a rad question. The detachable hood is in every Patagonia Men's Wanaka jacket but because it is a waterproof coat, the zipper is hidden. Hope this helps!

My husband is 6 feet tall and about 195 pounds with broad shoulders and typically wears a large, which would be fitted. Is the cut more slim? If so I will choose an XL.

Asked by: Leejen10
Hiya Leejen10, thanks for your question! This jacket has a regular fit so it will not be cut slim. He should be fine with his normal size. By the way, there is a link to a helpful size chart located in the lower right corner of the drop down size menu. Hope this helps!

Can you tell me the length of the body and sleeves of the XL?

Asked by: Jess
Hiya Jess, thanks for your question! The center front length measures 27.75 inches (from the collar seam to the bottom seam), the back measures 31 inches. The sleeve length (from the shoulder to the cuff) is 28 inches. Hope this helps!

Is there any feedback on the quality after years of use? Also, any confirmation on the feathers coming out? Thanks!

Asked by: PatM
Hiya PatM, thanks for your question! Feathers popping out of a down jacket is a natural occurrence, especially as it ages. The more the jacket is worn, the more feathers compress and flatten making them easier to fit through the weave. Never pull the feathers out, this just makes the holes larger. Instead, push them back in or pull them toward the inside of the jacket. If you fluff your feathers they will fatten up and have a more difficult time fitting through the fabric. (You can put your jacket into the dryer and run the no-heat fluff cycle for about 15 minutes.) Keep in mind that proper care of the jacket will result in many years of quality use. Hope this helps!

Hi, I'm very much considering buying this jacket but am concerned as to the hand pocket size. I keep reading complaints that they are too small. Can I get the dimensions on those pockets. I often use binoculars and need decent sized pockets for gloves.

Asked by: Birdman
Hiya Birdman, thanks for your question! My office mate tried on this jacket in a size large and he doesn't think the pockets are very big either. If fact, he commented that an adult onesie has bigger pockets than this jacket! (It's "wear your pajamas to work" day.) You might be able to fit a glove in each pocket but the binoculars probably wouldn't fit. Hope this helps!
