The Patagonia Men's R1 Hoody is a fleece pullover for adventures in the alpine. Climbing or skiing, staying warm is all about the layers and this handy midlayer uses Polartec® Power Grid™ fabric to drop the weight, increase the breathability and above all, keep you toasty. The exterior is smooth so pulling something extra over top is super silky. The front zipper won't completely separate the front but it falls so deep you'll be able to vent quickly and efficiently when your exertion up the mountain gets to be too hot. A hood for your head, thumbloops for your hands, and a chest pocket to keep a pic of your loved one in. Or lipbalm.

FEATURES of the Patagonia Men's R1 Hoody

  • Exclusive to Patagonia, a new Polartec Power Grid fabric (with Polygiene permanent odor control) is lighter and more breathable than before but with the same outstanding stretch and durability
  • Snug-fitting, balaclava-style hood fits comfortably under a helmet strap; centerfront Slim Zip with a soft, kissing-welt zipper garage at chin for next-to-skin comfort
  • Raglan sleeves for increased mobility and off-shoulder seaming for comfort under a pack
  • Pullover silhouette has deep center-front zipper to allow for quick venting
  • One left chest pocket has Slim Zip install, zipper garage and mesh pocket bag
  • Sleeves have discreet on-seam thumb loops for added coverage in cold conditions
  • Torso is 1" longer than usual to stay tucked in under a harness or a pack waistbelt
  • Fabric is bluesign approved

Polartec Power Grid

Polartec Power Grid
Polartec Power Grid is a fleece fabric with a grid pattern. The grid design allows the fabric to wick moisture away from the skin, dry quickly, and increase breathability. It also allows the apparel piece to be lightweight and compress down for packing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The standard climber fleece This is my sixth R1. I love them that much. It’s my standard layering peice on alpine adventures and my general layer when rock climbing at lower elevations. Always in my pack or on my body. I generally pair it with an OR Ferrosi Summit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for climbing. Great piece for climbing. I love having a hood instead of wearing a hat to keep up with on routes, the hood fits nice and snug and stays in place even while being active. The long zipper is great for opening during long approaches to let out heat and moisture. The weight is really perfect for a wide range of temperatures where you can keep it on and just have an insulated jacket to throw on for belays. A lot of people gripe about not having the older style with the offset zipper, which I hated, so for me this is a welcomed change. My only gripes about this piece is how long it is. I appreciate that it stays well tucked in under a harness, but it is so long that it rolls up around my hips just under my gear loops and I actually end up accidentally clipping the rolled up hem sometimes with my carabiners when I am on something hard. Plus, the sleeves are so long that they're a bit bunched up around my wrist which kind of get in the way if I need to hand jam or first jam. I personally never use the thumb loops on shirts like this, so they're just annoying and get in my way. I am sure for most people that is probably a welcomed feature though. I am 5'9", 165 lbs, and I bought a medium. Fits really well in the shoulders, arms and chest-- but I have quite a bit of space in the stomach/torso area and the length is really too long in my opinion. Probably will try a small next time around. Being that the fit is supposed to be an athletic fit, I would say it feels like it runs a bit on the larger side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from professional grade this was a birthday gift for my son who is a commercial fisherman in Alaska. He is also an avid hunter and outdoors man. He asked for this Patagonia R1 Hoody specifically and called to tell me how happy he is with it. Thinking of one for myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Warm and as good as they say it is Everyone is right about this hoodie. It’s stellar but know that is pretty warm and the fit might not be for everyone. It’s great for climbing and often I don’t even need the puffy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Length This is a great mid-layer jacket! I like that it is a little longer than most mid layers as a tall guy it is hard to find clothes that are long. The zipper is nice because the collar zips up to your nose to keep you warm and it zips low for good ventilation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Somewhat snug, but comfortable and looks good Bought this recently to add to my growing outerwear collection. I'm 5'11", 225 and the XL is a tad bit more snug than I typically prefer for outerwear, but after wearing it around, it actually fits and feels great. The slightly tighter fit will allow it to easily fit under other insulating layers and the thumb holes really help keep the sleeves from riding up. It definitely allows some air flow, so don't count on it to serve as your only layer if you're on a super-windy hike. It looks better in person than it does in pictures and is more than adequate to wear around town when you're not hiking up a hill somewhere.

This says its 5.7 oz? That's a typo correct? Everywhere else I look this is not this light.

Asked by: memeryf
